She clicked her tongue. “Wow. Theda knows how to put on a show. I’ve never seen a banquet this fancy here before.”

Seamar City didn’t have many hotels of this caliber, and few people had the clout to host an event at Royal Grand.

Debra stepped out, smoothing the hem of her aqua–blue dress.

“How does this dress look on me?” she asked.

Erica sized her up. “Not bad. But it looks familiar. Isn’t it something you picked up on the beach? The $99 dress?”

Randy was astounded. “Wow, you’ve got some serious taste. You make a bargain–bin dress look like high fashion. Teach me your ways.”

After they’d landed, they’d gone straight to the Potter Mansion without any time to get new outfits tailored. She had to make do with the $99 dress she’d picked up on a whim. At least the quality wasn’t bad.

“Your closet is twice the size of my bedroom,” Randy muttered under his breath. “And you’re saying you have nothing to wear.”

Erica heard him. “What do you know? Once a dress has been worn to a banquet, it’s taboo to wear it again. People would mock her.”

“Really? That explains why all those rich ladies never wear the same outfit twice.”

“Don’t act so surprised. We wear those dresses in private all the time. Just not for public events like this.”

Erica waved her hand and extended her arm. “Now, escort me inside. I want to see what kind of spectacle they’ve put together.”

“As you wish, my queen.” Randy took her arm, and together, they headed inside.

Meanwhile, Marion offered Debra his hand. “My princess, may I have the honor of escorting you?”

Debra placed her hand in his, and the two of them made their way toward the entrance. Their appearance drew immediate attention.

Melody paused from entertaining the guests. The smile on her face faded.

“Who invited them?”
