My Husband Wants Me Dead (Esther and Bradley)

Chapter 538

Chapter 538

When Felix noticed his mother’s exhaustion, he kindly asked, “Mommy, can I sing you a lullaby to help

you sleep?”

“Sure.”

Nestled in her hospital bed, Esther reached out to embrace Felix. He gently patted her arm and began

to sing.

“Grandma Moon, bake a bun,

Toss it high, let it run.

Baby finds it on the shore,

Keeps it, Grandma asks no more.”

Intrigued by the unfamiliar nursery rhyme, Esther asked, “Felix, where did you learn this nursery

rhyme?”

“From the woman who used to take care of me.”

“The woman who used to take care?”

“Yes. That mean woman used to leave me with her!”

Esther tenderly touched Felix’s face and asked, “Do you know more nursery rhymes like this?”

“Yes,” replied Felix, his voice filled with childlike sweetness.

“Chubby baby, full of cheer,

Rides a horse to yesteryear.

Old town’s full of games to play,

Chubby baby rides all day.”

Felix’s voice acted as the most soothing solace in the world. Unbeknownst to her, Esther slipped back

into sleep. Even in this peaceful state, a lone tear escaped from the corner of her eye.

With his small arm snuggled around her neck, Felix reached up to wipe the tear away. “Mommy, I love

you so much,” he murmured adorably.

Arriving with a fresh set of clothes for Esther, Sadie found Felix sound asleep in his mother’s arms. She

watched them silently, careful not to break the maternal spell. She then idly scrolled through her

phone.

After finishing her tasks, Agatha entered the room. “Sadie, what’s the situation outside?”

Sadie snorted disdainfully. “Dr. Foster, that Pendleton fool bribed the Royal Palace Hotel staff. He used

the pretext of Felix falling into the water at the hotel to bring Esther to the backyard.”

Capitus served as the Quill family’s fortress. A massive scandal had erupted during a welcoming

banquet organized especially for Esther. It was an offense the Quill family could not and would not

overlook.

The bond between Marcus and Oliver made them unstoppable in all their endeavors. Marcus’ wife,

Riley Brooks, had also uncovered the shocking truth. Belonging © NôvelDram/a.Org.

Sadie found it unbelievable that a staff member would risk the Quill family’s wrath for a measly million-

dollar check.

“So, what does Ms. Brooks plan to do?”

Sadie replied with a sly, cold smile, “They might take the money, but they might not live long enough to

spend it.”

What infuriated Sadie the most wasn’t that the staff had taken the Pendletons’ money. It was that

someone from the Pendleton family had assumed the Quills had welcomed Esther solely to save face.

“What about Bradley? What’s the plan for him?”

Sadie scoffed. “Let him go to jail! Didn’t he have Esther incarcerated once? It’s time for him to

experience prison life!”

Agatha’s gaze lingered on Felix’s adorable face. “It’s strange how a man like Bradley could have such

an adorable child like Felix.”

Sadie sneered. “That’s probably because of Thomas Warner’s good deeds.”

Esther listened to Agatha and Sadie debate the Bradley and Pendleton issues, feeling deeply

embarrassed. Even though she wasn’t at fault, she felt shame and wished she could disappear.

Taking a deep breath, Esther opened her weary eyes and asked with a voice tinged with fatigue,

“Sadie, is Bradley really behind bars?”
