deep breath, looked back at the building, and then flagged down a taxi.
He couldn’t understand Bradley’s actions as a doctor and a regular person.
Kevin learned that Esther had a miscarriage and was in the hospital. He found out which hospital she
was in through some medical contacts. He asked the taxi to stop, bought flowers and supplements, and
headed to the hospital.
His friend guided him to Esther’s hospital room and cautioned him gently, “She’s currently under Dr.
Foster’s care, so you may not be able to see her.”
“I’ll give it a try,” Kevin said, his voice filled with gratitude.
After taking a deep breath, he gently knocked on the door.
In the hospital room, Esther assumed a nurse was coming to check her temperature, so she softly
uttered, “Come in.”
Carrying flowers and nutritional supplements, Kevin entered the room, expressing his concern, “Esther,
are you okay?”
“Kévin, how did you get here?” Esther was surprised by Kevin’s presence.
Kevin placed the flowers and supplements on a nearby table and explained, “I heard from Bradley you
had a miscarriage, so I came to see how you’re doing.”
At the mention of Bradley’s name, Esther felt like a needle had pierced her heart, causing intense pain.
“Kevin, if you’re here as a messenger for Bradley, please don’t bother.”
When Sadie had Bradley apprehended, Esther experienced indescribable discomfort in her heart. Her
emotions were a whirlwind, and there was no language to convey the depth of her feelings. No one
could truly understand what she was going through.
“Esther, what do you take me for?” Kevin was indignant. “I won’t be his accomplice anymore!”
T
Tears welled up in Esther’s eyes. She could not help but cry every time she thought of the innocent
child.
Kevin offered helplessly, “I’m sorry for bringing up something that upsets you.”
“It’s okay.”
Esther wiped away the tears from the corner of her eyes. She had told herself not to be sad anymore.
That child was simply not meant to be.
But her heart still ached. She could not control the pain in her heart.
Kevin’s eyes also turned red. He gazed at Esther, who sat in the gentle glow. She resembled a fragile
flower that had lost its shine. He even wondered whether her life would have been happier if she hadn’t
met Bradley. It likely would have been filled with joy.
“Esther, I just went to see him in jail,” Kevin said. “He’s still the same as always, and even…”
Kevin could not bear to tell Esther about it. “Even asked his lawyer to appeal the divorce case because
you didn’t inform him of the pregnancy.”
Esther smiled. “Kevin, are you here to tell me these things so that I can prepare myself that I might lose
the appeal in the divorce case?”
Kevin looked pained. “Esther, run away! Run far away, to a place where he can never find you. You
won’t
need to hide for long… You’ll be completely free probably after a year.”
Esther wrinkled her brows slightly and sensed the hidden implications in Kevin’s words.
