My Mirror Image by Maybe Not (Candice And Alex’s)

Chapter 0410

Chapter 0410

Candice glanced at Alex, hoping to discern some emotion in his eyes, especially after hearing the police's remarks.

Yet, Alex's expression remained unchanged. He met Candice's gaze, appearing calm as if the situation didn't concern him.

Candice's lips twitched slightly as she broke the silence, asking, "Did you catch that?"

Alex drummed his fingers on the table. His dark eyes briefly locked with Candice's as he asked, "Why didn't you inform me about the hotel incident?"

When she mentioned the tampering in her hotel room, her voice hinted at a hint of uncertainty and anxiety, unnoticed by herself.

Alex's tone grew stern, his gaze sharpening. He remarked, "This is Solaris, not Dorrington. Have you forgotten about basic safety precautions?"

His sudden accusation caught Candice off guard, redirecting her planned response.

After a moment, she countered, "Why should I tell you? You're well aware of your connection with Sonia; I shouldn't have to remind you."

She glanced down, letting out a soft scoff as she mocked, "But it seems you're getting busy now. Haven't you heard? Francis has already implicated Sonia in his confession. Remember, 'Righteousness is everlasting and justice always wins'."

Candice looked at the poster on the wall behind Alex, reading each word aloud. As she finished, her gaze returned to Alex. Though faint, her emotions were evident in her eyes, almost as if she were assessing him.

Indeed, Candice was evaluating Alex.

Alex had tolerated Sonia extensively back in Dorrington, but what about now? How far would he go for Sonia?

Her evaluation was evident. Sawyer, noticing her expression, displayed a hint of worry and spoke cautiously, "Candice, Mr. Elysian previously..."

"Sawyer," Alex interrupted calmly.

Sawyer halted. He glanced at Alex but ultimately stayed quiet.

Now, it was clear that Sonia was primarily to blame for the problems Candice had in Solaris.

Standing next to Candice, Barox straightened his posture and cast a sidelong glance at Alex. Then, he addressed the officer, "Is there anything else you need to ask? If not, I need to ensure she eats dinner."

"That's all for now. Just wrap up the paperwork. We may need to reach out to you again."

Barox nodded. Then, he naturally took off his hat and placed it on Candice's head, saying sincerely, "It's windy outside; don't catch a cold."

Candice murmured in acknowledgment. She finished her statement with the police and followed Barox out.

As they approached the door, she paused and turned to give Alex a meaningful look.

Alex remained still, silently observing Candice follow Barox out and keeping his gaze fixed on them.

"Mr. Elysian," Sawyer noticed his demeanor and hesitated before continuing, "Why not explain to Candice that you were protecting Sonia because of the company's secrets and also clarify that

Francis's change of heart was because..."

Alex's eyebrow twitched slightly. He averted his gaze and replied with a blank expression, "What's the use in telling her that?"

"But Candice doesn't know," Sawyer persisted.

"She doesn't need to," Alex asserted firmly.

Afterward, the two exited the police station.

Indeed, the wind had picked up outside, blowing harshly against their faces.

Alex gazed at the towering skyscraper with its flashing giant billboards. A thick fog obscured

his eyes, hiding any underlying unrest. He asked, "What's the latest news from headquarters? Are they still firmly opposed to me?"

The board of directors of the headquarters was now largely made up of members of the Sui

family. Their intentions were clear to all; they had capitalized on the previous incident to prevent Alex's return.

Moreover, since Alex had missed a crucial board meeting recently, the Sui family had toughened their stance even further.

Sawyer remained silent, offering no response.

Alex had already anticipated this, saying nothing more as he walked away. This is property © NôvelDrama.Org.

Once Candice and Barox exited, she tried to return the hat to him.

He refused and joked, "If you catch a cold, Yana will definitely come after me with a knife."

Candice raised an eyebrow and teasingly warned him, "Aren't you afraid I'll tell her you spoke ill of her?"

Barox simply shrugged, stating confidently, "I’m fearless."

Candice shook her head, dropping the subject.

Sonia had been absent from the conference hall for two consecutive days. Even Quentin had shown up today, but there was no sign of Sonia.

Angela was aware of the reason, but she still sought out Candice to vent her frustration about Sonia and Alex's behavior.

When Yondu showed up with two drinks, he overheard Angela badmouthing Alex. Confused, he asked, "Why are you suddenly saying bad things about him?"

Ignoring his question, Angela noticed the fruit tea he brought and asked, "Are you being generous today, treating us to fruit tea?"

"It's the end of the conference; I'm just trying to be nice," Yondu replied.

Angela wasn't impressed and replied, "You could have at least gotten coffee."

Yondu then turned to Candice and offered her the drink. He explained, "I had to think of Candice too. Drink it. My friend made this tea without any additives. It's at room temperature, too."

Candice took the drink and casually asked, "Why haven't we seen Mr. Franklyn around lately?"

"He's been busy. Is there something you need?" Yondu responded.

Candice thought for a moment and asked, "Are Mr. Franklyn and Mr. Howles close?"

"Not really. I only started managing the event this year; Mr. Franklyn was closer to his uncle before," Yondu clarified.

Candice looked down. Abel's decision to turn off the lab's electricity covertly baffled her. She found it suspicious.

Given that Candice was Hanley's referral and that Alex was his client, even if Abel was at fault, he ought to have told them. Unless it was intentional and planned, what would he gain from that?

Candice didn't share her suspicions with Yondu, who continued to invite her to dinner until the afternoon ended.

She declined as she was preoccupied with the Redshade Corporation's proposal. Quentin and Darius seemed to be targeting them relentlessly, and no matter how they revised it, the opposition found reasons to object.

Barox was waiting for her as usual, but Candice soon heard unsettling news from him.

He revealed, "When I arrived, I saw Sonia downstairs. A posh car dropped her off, then she left in Mr. Howles's vehicle.

After a moment, Barox thoughtfully added, "Could it be Mr. Elysian’s doing?"
