My Mirror Image by Maybe Not (Candice And Alex’s)

Chapter 0415

Chapter 0415

As the sky darkened, Sonia got out of the car, leaving a lingering sweet scent of perfume inside.

Darius seemed somewhat displeased. He took out a disinfectant tissue from the tissue box and meticulously wiped his fingers, slowly and deliberately. Only after wiping all ten fingers did he calmly get out of the car and throw the tissue into the trash bin.

He didn't get back into the car; instead, he leaned against the Rolls-Royce, counting silently.

When he counted to one hundred, his phone suddenly rang. Darius, unfazed, checked the time. It was precisely 6:00 PM.

The ringtone echoed three times before he nonchalantly answered.

On the other end, Henry complained impatiently, "Why haven't you transferred the money for this month? Darius, I’m warning you: If you don't wire me the money, I'll tell the Quimbys what kind of person your mom is. We’ll see if that spoiled Quimby girl will still want to be with a bastard like you!"

Listening to the insults, Darius maintained a calm expression.

When Henry finally paused, Darius spoke, "What's the matter? You didn’t get your precious daughter to hand over the money, and you had to call a bastard like me?"

Henry paused briefly before launching into more intense and offensive verbal abuse.

Darius opened the car door and tossed the phone inside before locking the door. He then continued to play with the lighter outside. It was a lighter that Bella had given him when he started smoking.

After Candice and Barox left the meeting hall, she handed the tea back to Barox, saying, "Pregnant women shouldn't drink tea, but thanks anyway."

Barox looked down in thought and suggested, "How about I buy you a thermos tomorrow?"

Candice replied, "You don't have to get me anything."

She couldn’t imagine Barox picking her up with a thermos in hand.

Busy with organizing documents that evening, Candice missed dinner with Barox. As soon as she entered her room, she received a call from Hanley.

Candice, who had some work-related questions for him, said with a smile, "I was just about to call you." This content is © NôvelDrama.Org.

Hanley laughed. "Perhaps it's telepathy."

Right after he spoke, Hannah's lively voice came through. "Hey, Candy! Remember me, my dear sister-in-law?"

Hannah greeted her energetically. Candice, clearing her throat, asked, "How have you been, Hannah?"

"Those little injuries are nothing. I've been discharged, and now I'm with Hanley. He mentioned you're at Solaris. My husband and I are coming for a vacation next week. Wanna grab a meal together?"

Candice gladly agreed. She liked Hannah's personality—she was straightforward and vibrant, even though her thought process sometimes baffled Candice.

Right after inviting her for a meal excitedly, Hannah said with a pitiful tone, “Candy, Yana told me she fixed you up with a young man. Why don’t you consider Hanley? Is he too old for your taste?”

Hanley was two years older than Candice, but he was not even thirty years old, which would not qualify him as ‘too old’.

Seeing as Hannah wanted to talk more about Hanley’s age, Candice gave an excuse and hung up because she didn’t know what to say.

After hanging up, Candice texted Hanley on WhatsApp to discuss work matters.

Two days before the end of the summit meeting, Quentin arrived with a group for another meeting, and Sonia was still by his side.

Candice couldn't shake the feeling that Sonia was occasionally looking at her. Unlike the previous challenging and disdainful gaze, this time it seemed more exploratory.

Even Angela couldn’t help but ask when she came to visit Candice at lunch, "Is there something wrong with Sonia’s eyes? I feel like she's been staring at you."

Candice shook her head and replied, "I don't know."

While talking with Angela and walking outside, Candice saw Sawyer waiting for her, but she tried to pretend she didn't notice.

Sawyer approached her, his expression serious.

"Candice, Old Mr. Elysian has come to Solaris. He's already at the hotel." Sawyer seemed to hesitate after speaking.

Candice paused for a moment, remembering that Shawn had called her a couple of days ago to check on her. At that time, everything was fine, so why would he suddenly come to Solaris now?

Candice looked at him and, realizing something, sank into deep thoughts. After a moment of contemplation, she looked up and asked Sawyer, "Why don't you just tell me why he came to Solaris?"

Sawyer remained silent for a moment and then said, "He came for a check-up."

Candice's heart sank. "What kind of check-up?"

Candice skipped lunch and immediately returned to the hotel.

When she knocked on the door, Alex opened it. He was only wearing a shirt, and his right shoulder showed clear signs of being wet.

Seeing Candice, he didn't seem surprised and just stepped aside to let her in. Without exchanging many words, Candice headed to the inner room.

Shawn was sitting on the sofa, panting, while Bruno was patting his back. On the floor was a spilled teacup and a water stain.

Candice glanced at the teacup, her lips trembling slightly. She spoke in a low voice, "Grandpa."

Shawn, who had been a bit unhappy, immediately put on a smile when he saw her. He beckoned with his hand and said, "Candy, come and sit next to me."

Approaching, Candice looked at Shawn with concern. "Sawyer said that your heart has been acting up recently. What happened?"

Shawn cleared his throat and waved his hand. "It’s normal for old people to have health problems."

Candice wanted to say something, but Shawn interrupted her. He looked at her, his cloudy but kind eyes full of worry. "Why have you lost weight? Is it because you're working too hard, or is the food I ordered for you not tasty?"

Candice felt sorry when she saw Shawn in this state. She reached out and held Shawn's hand, whispering, "Grandpa, you must take care of your health. I'll take care of myself."

Shawn nodded. "I know you're a good kid."

Upon saying that, he snorted while looking up at Alex, his kindly expression turning into dissatisfaction.

"It's a shame that Alex can't do anything right. If I were you, I wouldn't be interested in him either."

Shawn patted Candice reassuringly and asked gently, "Candy, when are you going to bring your boyfriend to see me? I will help you assess him."
