My Mirror Image by Maybe Not (Candice And Alex’s)

Chapter 0434

Chapter 0434

They returned to the hotel in silence. The matter on Jensen's side could be considered a success. The outcome was not something they could control anyway, so Candice felt a sigh of relief in her heart.

As soon as she got in the car, she closed her eyes to rest. The consequence of not sleeping well at night was a throbbing pain in her temples.

There was a faint fragrance in the car, and with her eyes closed, she soon felt drowsy.

She was awakened by the sound of the car door being opened. Candice looked up and saw Sawyer opening the passenger door and looking at her with a hesitant expression.

She remained silent and glanced at her phone before realizing it had been an hour since they left the restaurant. The drive back to the hotel was only thirty minutes.

Candice pinched her temples and asked Sawyer, "How long have we been here?"

"Mr. Elysian has already gone upstairs to get the documents. We're about to go over there now," he whispered.

She nodded, opened the door, got out of the car, and saw Alex coming out of the hotel.

He stopped by the car, handed the documents to Sawyer, and casually asked her, "You’re awake then?"

"Why didn't you wake me when we arrived?" she asked him.

She had just woken up and still felt a bit dizzy.

Alex stood tall, barely paying attention as he responded nonchalantly, "I can wait a couple of minutes."

He didn't look at Candice, his profile stern. Candice bid him farewell and walked back to the hotel.

Perhaps due to the drowsiness brought on by the car ride, she collapsed onto the bed as soon as she returned to the room and fell asleep directly.

Recently, she had found it easier to fall asleep due to her pregnancy. Although sometimes she still couldn't sleep well. But afterward, it was also easier to catch up on sleep, unlike before when it had been hard to feel drowsy. This belongs to NôvelDrama.Org.

When she woke up, it was already dark outside.

Candice got up and picked up her phone from the bedside table, intending to check the time, but instead saw a message pop up on the screen.

"Oakpoint Corporation's stock has surged, reversing the previous situation of decline.."

Under the eye-catching headline was a brief description of the various crises Oakpoint Corporation had faced before and the subsequent countermeasures.

Candice stared at the name in the message. Darius.

After reading it for a while, she deleted the notification and then got up to turn on the lights in the room.

But she didn't know what to do. Her mind felt heavy, and her thoughts were muddled.

Candice rarely experienced this feeling. She sat in front of her computer for a while, but couldn't focus on any work. In the end, she simply hugged a pillow and sat on the sofa, lost in thought.

Things had been rushed and chaotic lately, with everything piling up together. Candice hadn't even had time to catch her breath. She had thought she could take it easy before, but now that Jensen's side was settled, she couldn't find anything to keep herself busy with, and the exhaustion seeped through her bones.

And to think there was still a lawsuit looming...

Candice buried her face in the pillow, feeling a sense of isolation from the world.

The phone suddenly rang, followed by the regular sound of the doorbell.

It was Alex calling.

She went to open the door, knowing without asking that it was Alex outside.

Candice stood in the room, her expression still not quite composed, as she looked tiredly at Alex. "Is something wrong?"

"Have you had dinner?" Alex's tone was indifferent.

She was taken aback, and he glanced at her before directly entering her room.

Leaning against the door frame, she watched him.

"Candice." After a while, Alex finally stopped in his tracks, his gaze deep and profound. It lingered for a moment on her stomach, then moved to her eyes. He paused and asked, "When will you learn to take responsibility for yourself?"

Candice opened her mouth to say something, but when she met his gaze, she didn't know what to say.

After a while, she put on her coat and went out with Alex.

However, Alex didn't take her far. Instead, they stayed on the second floor of the hotel, where the food was light.

Candice lost her appetite after drinking half a bowl of soup and wanted to return to her room.

"Ms. Zott just called." Alex picked up a bowl of chicken soup and placed it in front of Candice. His voice was calm. "Quil went to see her this morning, trying to persuade you to withdraw the lawsuit."

Candice looked at the soup in front of her and said, "Ms. Zott didn't call me."

Alex paused. "Originally, we were talking about Aether Corporation's matter, and she mentioned it incidentally."

Candice lowered her eyes, feeling puzzled about Harley's call and Alex mentioning Quil.

With a faint sneer, he said lightly, "It's normal for Ms. Zott to know that you used to work for Aether Corporation."

Candice nodded. "And then, after Ms. Zott refused, what did Quil do?" She was certain that Harley would refuse.

Alex's brows twitched slightly. He spoke slowly, "Quil went to the hospital to find Yvonne and got into an altercation with Raymond."

Quil went to find Yvonne.

It confirmed Candice's previous speculation.

"What about Sonia?" she asked.

If Quil's actions were related to Yvonne, then Sonia was definitely not innocent.

But Alex paused when he heard the name Sonia before saying, "She didn't go."

Candice completely lost her appetite for the meal.

She got up to leave, but she saw Alex push the bowl of soup in front of her again and firmly reminded her, "Eat a little more."

She swallowed her words about not having an appetite.

The quality of the chicken soup was good, and Candice unknowingly finished it. As she got up to leave, she heard Alex's voice again, "Go find Jensen tomorrow morning. His assistant's feedback has arrived. I'll be waiting downstairs for you."

Candice paused for a moment before leaving.

When she returned to her room, she took out her phone and saw that Zoe had sent her a message about Quil's situation.

She pursed her lips and replied to Zoe's message. Almost instantly, Zoe replied, "No," but Candice's expression remained unchanged.

She had asked Zoe if Sonia had gone with Quil.

Seeing Zoe's response, Candice wasn't troubled. She simply put down her phone and went to sleep.

She still felt tired.

The next day, just as Alex had said, he was waiting downstairs for Candice.

Jensen was in the office of the conference room. When they went over, they didn't see Jensen at first. Instead, the first person they saw was Tina.

Tina was waiting at the door, eagerly waiting for them. When she saw Candice, she ran over happily. "Miss, you're here! I've been waiting for you for so long..."

She had a lively personality, bouncing over when she ran, intending to jump directly next to Candice. However, unexpectedly, a hand suddenly blocked her path. Tina looked up and met Alex's cold eyes.

She blinked, looked at Candice, and said with some satisfaction, "Miss, your boyfriend is so fierce."
