Candice stood a few steps away, looking at his hand around Ava's waist, but her face showed no expression. The intimacy of this gesture was enough to prove their relationship.

Perhaps her gaze was too intense, as Henry glanced over. When he saw that it was Candice, his expression changed.

Ava, who had been leaning against him, also noticed his unusual reaction and looked up.

However, she had not reached the elevator when she heard footsteps behind her, followed by Henry's call, "Candice, wait!"

Candice stopped as Henry came from behind and pulled her to the side.

"I need to talk to you."

Candice didn’t know if Henry had managed to appease Ava, but she looked at him mockingly.

"Why are you in Stugan City? Weren't you in Dorrington?" Henry asked. His tone was very rude, tinged with impatience.

Candice raised her gaze and said coldly, "Do I need to report to you wherever I am?"

"You!" A hint of anger flashed over Henry's face. He stared at Candice for a while before softening his tone. "I'm in Stugan City for an important matter. I'm not asking anything of you. Just don't interfere with my affairs."

Candice looked at Henry indifferently. The worry on his face was obvious, but it was clear that the emotion was not because of someone else, just merely because she had suddenly encountered him.

He felt that Candice might ruin things between him and Ava.

Candice withdrew her gaze as she spoke tonelessly, "Is your so-called important matter hugging Ava? Don't worry, I don't have the mood or time to interfere with you."

Her words were a bit harsh, and Henry's expression darkened. "Do you know her?"

"I don't."

Candice's good mood had instantly been ruined by the appearance of Henry and Ava. She went straight back to her room to rest.

Candice didn’t go to the restroom but instead headed out of the restaurant, as it was crowded and stuffy inside.

As she stepped outside, she saw a familiar figure standing under the iconic tree with fairy lights wrapped around it.

Alex stood there, his profile cold and stern, his gaze deep and isolated. Under the tree, he seemed to exude a sense of loneliness for no apparent reason.

The moment Candice saw him, she turned around, ready to go back. However, at that moment, a family group exited the restaurant. Two little boys were happily jumping ahead, holding balloons in their hands.

In order to avoid bumping into them, Candice had to walk a bit further to the side. However, one of the little boys accidentally hit her head with the balloon he was holding.

Although it wasn’t much, the little boy stopped in his tracks and said crisply, "I'm sorry, Miss."

Candice replied instinctively, "It's okay."

After the little boy walked away, she prepared to return to the restaurant. However, she heard a deep voice behind her say, "Candice."

Candice paused and turned to look at Alex, who was standing under the tree with a calm expression.

She didn’t move either. He was close enough that they could hear each other easily.

"Do you need something?" she asked.

Alex's dark eyes flickered gently, and his Adam's apple rolled as if he had something to say.

But before he could say anything, another figure came out from the restaurant's entrance. It was Nina, carrying a food container in her hand.

When she saw Candice, her eyes flickered for a moment, but she quickly smiled. "Candice? What a coincidence." As she spoke, she walked towards Alex, lifting the food container in her hand. "I've packed the snacks for my mom and your parents. Let's go."

Alex glanced at her. "You can go back by yourself."

Nina said, "It wouldn't look good if I went back by myself." Raising her eyebrows, she said, "Have you forgotten our agreement?"
