Chapter 88 I’ll Protect You
Athena had nothing else to say.
She went to the garage.
Byron followed after a while.
“What do you want to eat?” Byron got into the car and asked Athena gently.
Athena thought about it.
“Let’s go back to Girard City,” she said.
“It’s dinner time,” Byron said in a deeper voice.
He sounded impatient and unhappy.
“Mr. Crawford, where can I go for dinner with you? Your engagement to Miss Ross just came off the
trending list not long ago. Why? Are you already trying to attract media attention and put me in the
spotlight?”
“The news cannot be released without my permission,” Byron said.
Athena lowered her eyes and laughed at herself. “Mr. Crawford, the Internet is ubiquitous. Besides, so
many people want the marriage between the Crawford and Ross families to fail… They
are playing games behind the scenes. You may think of me as a pawn, but I don’t want to be one.”
“Athena, you know that’s not how I think!” Byron growled. This content © Nôv/elDr(a)m/a.Org.
“No, I don’t,” Athena replied.
“You…”
Byron’s breathing was a bit heavy and uneven.
He stared at Athena for a moment, not knowing what to do.
Byron quickly gave up.
He hooked his arm around Athena’s neck, pulling her close and resting his forehead against hers.
“Don’t worry. I’ll protect you.”
Athena looked down.
Her eyes gradually turned red as tears welled up.
“Protect?
But Byron, you’re the one who has hurt me deeply in the world,” she thought.
In the end, they didn’t stay in the Dunlop City for dinner.
However, Athena still got what she wanted.
They bought some food from KFC at the airport.
In the departure lounge, Byron watched as Athena enjoyed her food,
“Is this cheap food really that delicious?” he asked.
Athena finished a spicy chicken wing.
:
“It may be cheap for you, Mr. Crawford, but when I was a child, I could only have KFC when I was sick,”
she said.
Hearing that, Byron thought of something.
“Let’s go for a medical check–up tomorrow.”
Athena was taken aback. She quickly concealed her inner
turmoil.
“I just had one recently, so it’s not necessary,” Athena said.
“You just had one? Did they find any problems? Is that why Liam saw you taking medicine that day?”
Byron asked seriously.
Athena replied with a relaxed tone, “I have a bit of anemia, and I’m lacking some trace elements. It’s
not medicine, just
vitamins.”
“You’re too thin,” Byron said.
Athena looked at Byron in surprise.
“Mr. Crawford, didn’t you tell me to keep slim?”
Athena couldn’t gain weight easily.
“Forget about the nonsense I said before. Let’s not dwell on the past.” Byron became annoyed at the
mention of what he had said before.
“Okay,” Athena responded. She continued to focus on eating her chicken wings.
It was half past ten.
The plane landed in Girard City.
Athena ate half a bucket of chicken and fell asleep contentedly as soon as she got on the plane.
When they got off the plane, Byron whispered in her ear, “You ate and then fell asleep like a little pig.”
His words were tender and affectionate, carrying a hint of indulgent love.
Athena almost fell for him.
But fortunately, when it came to Byron, someone would always pour a bucket of cold water on her at
the right moment, preventing her from falling too deeply under his spell.
“Byron! Over here!” Byron and Athena had just walked out of
the arrival gate when they heard a familiar and pleasant voice calling out to Byron.
Athena froze.
She looked over there.
In the crowd was Heather, who was as beautiful as a porcelain doll, waving her hands vigorously with a
pure and charming smile.
