My Most Precious Human

Recovery

Recovery

I had a slight taste of déjà vu once I opened my eyes and saw drops of drip flowing in a plastic tube. I

instantly remembered when I woke up in Argent Investment Bank's medical center. It felt similar yet

different… What felt similar was the hospital bed, but once I turned my head to the side, I saw a large

window and a sunset over a beautiful forest outside. When I turned to the other side, I saw Draven

sitting next to my bed. He was asleep. His head was lying on the bed with his cheek near my right hand

that he was holding. His grip was tight with a hint of possessiveness in it. Staring at his calm, sleeping

face, I started recalling every second of my fight with Brick. Once my mind captured the image of my

ripped shoulder, I turned my eyes, trying to check how bad it looked.

The whole area around my left collarbone and arm was patched with thick bandages and some

stinking, herbal ointment underneath the layers of gauze. I tried to move my arm a bit and, surprisingly,

felt no pain. I was aware of my body's regeneration skills, but I had yet to grasp the limit of them.

Considering the fact that Brick bit off a piece of my shoulder, I doubted that it would grow back within

hours. If it did, I would have to start suspecting that I was turning into a big salamander.

My imagination wasn't helpful, and I nearly burst out laughing, picturing myself as a human reptile.

Then I thought that it was more likely that my painless state was caused by very effective painkillers… NôvelDrama.Org owns this.

This would explain my weird sense of humor and the rationality of a ten-year-old. I started to wonder

what was in that drip, and let out a deep sigh, mocking my slightly on-high state of mind.

"Lilith?" My exhale turned out to be loud enough to wake up Draven.

I looked at him and slowly formed a smile on my face. The strands of his black hair framed his face,

underlining his masculine and sexy features. I couldn't say that I didn't enjoy the view. Draven's onyx

eyes betrayed concern… completely unlike when I fought Brick, which immediately reminded me that I

was supposed to be mad at that arrogant Alpha douchebag. Unfortunately, at that moment, I was

unable to frown, let alone show irritation, a clear downside of the medications flowing from the drip right

into my veins…

Draven was still holding my hand while looking into my eyes. I looked back at him with an emotionally-

filtered, drug-suppressed stare.

"How do you feel?" he asked, with a hint of an apologetic tone in his voice.

"Like shit," I replied with close to no mimicking muscle movement.

"Lilith… listen, I-"

"Could you come back later?" The question slipped out of my lips naturally.

"What? Why?" He frowned, surprised and confused.

"Those drugs…" I sighed, "I cannot be mad at you while they are working, and I think you deserve my

anger… and a slap… or a punch in the face… or chin… or-"

"Fine. I get it." He smiled wryly, stood up, and walked to the door.

I observed him grabbing the door handle, and then he suddenly stopped.

"I ordered that Brick be thrown into the dungeon for disgraceful behavior. If you want me to, I will order

to kill him," he said without turning towards me.

"No need," I said as firmly as I could, "I don't blame him for what happened as much as I blame you."

Draven didn't say a word. He only lowered his head, as if he thought exactly like me, and then he

walked out, closing the door behind him. Well, he should feel guilty. It was due to his stupid,

jeopardizing me behavior that I lay on that bed.

I rolled my eyes, trying to fight off the damn drug in my system. As soon as I thought of falling asleep

again, someone walked into my room.

"Hello, Ms. Lilith. I'm glad you're awake."

I turned my head and saw a beautiful, black-haired lady doctor, gazing at me with grinning golden eyes,

glowing like jewels framed in her soft latte-colored complexion.

"Hello," I responded faintly.

"I'm Melinda Adelman. I am the pack's mansion's main doctor," she said. "I patched you after Alpha

brought you here."

"I see… Thank you." I tried smiling.

She grinned even wider than when she entered and then walked closer to me to lean over me.

"What are you, Lilith?" She asked with a suspicious and agitated look as if I had just become her

favorite experimental patient.

"You're like Will in the skirt," I chuckled under my breath, clearing my throat to respond, "Human with a

lot of Alpha genes but no Wolf gene."

"Oh, I think you are more than that, honey," she giggled.

That made me come back to my salamander theory again…

"Your regeneration ability is extraordinary!" she called out in increasing excitement. "At one point, I

even thought that you might be a hybrid…"

"A… what?" I processed her way of thinking.

"You know, half-wolf and half-vampire child, but then Alpha told me about your heritage… This is really

amazing!"

"Doctor Adelman-"

"Melinda… Please call me Melinda," she said grinning.

I smiled nervously at her. "Melinda… can I ask you what's with my shoulder?"

"Oh… it should be healed by now," she stated, gently poking my bandage.

"If I'm healed, then what's with the drug?" I pointed at the damn drip.

"A standard procedure in our pack," she explained. "When wolves regenerate, it is sometimes

extremely painful, like their skin is burning. That is why I always give everyone a sedative, to help them

sleep."

"I see…" I sighed, "Could you take the drip off now?"

"Certainly," she laughed, while finally letting me free of the tube.

Then she took a look at my shoulder, taking off the patch she put there a couple of hours earlier. The

skin on my shoulder looked flawless. Although I saw my injury healing spontaneously a few times, a

view like that still came with a shock. I kept discovering something new about my body, and my abilities

seemed to evolve quicker and quicker. Even though Will assured me that I wasn't going to change into

a green monster, those new things that excited everyone around me were terrifying to me.

"Anyway…" Melinda cleared her throat. "Alpha Draven seems to care a lot about you," she tittered.

"I wouldn't say that," I replied, with a sour smile. "I was supposed to be his mate, and yet he was the

one who got me into this mess just to test me."

"His… mate?" Melinda repeated with a peal of awkward laughter.

"That is what he said. Not that I feel the mate-bond since I am a human. Why?" I glanced at her

suspiciously.

"No nothing. If that is what he said, then that's the truth," she tossed, taking the drip bottle from the

stand.

Melinda did a check-up on my parameters and then told me to stay in bed until the rest of the sedative

left my system... which meant staying there until the morning. I wasn't sure if it was the truth or just an

excuse to keep her recently favorite lab rat around a little longer. Nonetheless, I wanted to be

emotionally stable the next time I met Draven, so I decided to listen to her.

The next morning, I found out the true meaning of my painful victory over Brick. It turned out that news

traveled fast, and the whole pack already knew that a human woman had defeated one of the best

warriors from the pack's elite squad. On my way back to my room inside the main mansion, people

stopped before me and bowed as if I was their queen. I found their sudden respect a little awkward…

but then I thought that it was better than being hated by everyone.

"Lilith!" Ari greeted me at the door with a bright grin, "How's your poor shoulder?"

"Healed," I smirked, "I only hope that Alpha doesn't regenerate as fast as I do because I wish to punch

him, and I hope that the pain stays with him for a while."

Ari chuckled and then leaned over my ear to whisper, "I admit he is a jerk sometimes, but thanks to that

gruesome fight, at least you became like an untouchable saint to our pack."

"I am still trying to figure out whether this respect is a good thing or a bad thing," I sighed.

"Believe me, it is a good thing." He winked at me, gesturing at me to go and rest in my room, and then

added, as I passed him, "Come to the training grounds at seven."

"Why should I?" I asked.

"Don't ask, just come," Ari grinned, wickedly moving his eyebrows.

I shrugged at him but decided to come anyway. I doubted that he meant any harm. I spent some time in

my room, ate a delicious dinner prepared by my favorite old lady, took a shower, and then prepared to

go to the training grounds.

I soon realized that every warrior in the pack was heading in the same direction. Something was about

to happen, something big. I started to doubt whether it was a good idea to listen to Ari, but it was too

late: he saw me.

"Lilith! Come here! The official presentation is about to begin!" he called out.

I smiled nervously and walked towards him, only to find Alpha Draven standing there as well. Both of

them were looking at the front of the huge tents, which I could swear weren't there the last time I was

on the grounds. Draven looked at me and nodded as if thanking me that I came, and then Ari grabbed

my wrist and pulled me to stand beside the Alpha. Suddenly, the commotion arose, and I saw the Royal

Army's legion marching out of the tent. They all walked in the most perfect combat formation. The view

was breathtaking. They walked towards Draven, Ari, and me and then stopped and kneeled

respectfully. I glanced at Draven, but he strangely didn't seem too pleased with this situation.

"The Royal Army is at your command!" the legion's leader called out.

His familiar voice immediately made my heart pound faster. I smiled in surprise and almost stepped

forward to make sure I was right.

"Once again, we vow loyalty to you, Lady Lilith!" Patrick raised his head, giving me the most beaming

and proud smile.

I gasped.
