“Janet, do you still remember that when you were young, you liked to play hide–and–seek. At that time,
you liked to hide in the closet. Every time I looked for you in the closet, I was sure to find you.”
Mathilda looked at Janet with caring eyes, as if the purpose of coming tonight was just to recall the
past.
“Really? I don’t remember. Sorry.”
Janet smiled apologetically, and the scene was a little awkward for a while.
Mathilda froze for a moment, then pretended to be indifferent and continued.
“That wasn’t a big deal, so it’s normal not to remember. You still remember what you hated the most…”
She recounted almost all the memories she shared with Janet until Conrad started to become
impatient. Then, she said softly,
“Janet, you just came back not long ago. You don’t know many things. The company has changed a lot
now. Many veterans refuse to accept discipline because of their seniority. Usually, they even dare to
scold your uncle. Your uncle is humble and honest, and he doesn’t dare to oppose them.”
She finally got to the point.
Janet’s drowsiness dissipated, and she took another look at her “honest” uncle.
“I heard that you stopped a project as soon as you arrived at the company today. Is this decision too
arbitrary? Over the years, the Longfellow Group seemed good, but in fact, it has gone downhill. If this
financing project is done, it will bring the company back to life.”
Mathilda’s words were sincere, as if she was really thinking about her niece.
Janet didn’t answer, just quietly watched her acting.
Conrad, however, felt that his wife had finally gotten to the point. So he cleared his throat and said,
“Yes, Janet. You are young and don’t understand how to operate. I haven’t done anything great these
years, but I’m more experienced. You’re too impulsive, and you might ruin your father’s hard work!”
“That’s right. Back then, in order to start the company, my brother only slept for three hours every day
for a month. In the end, he had stomach bleeding and went to the hospital. You can’t ruin the
company’s future!”
Mathilda agreed with her husband and even started to talk about Janet’s father. As she said so, she
wanted to hold Janet’s hand
again.
However, Janet avoided it. “You said you came to see me today, but I feel that you seem to care more
about the company than
me.”
She looked at her aunt in front of her with clear eyes, and her voice was colder than the night.
Mathilda was inexplicably startled. She felt a little uneasy and quickly explained,
“We are also doing it for your own good. Your uncle managed to negotiate such a big project. If it is
sn*tched away by others, it will be a big loss for the company. If there’s something wrong with the
company, you’ll be the one who suffers!”
Hearing this, Janet sneered in secret.
Hadn’t she suffered enough? This content belongs to Nô/velDra/ma.Org .
Janet had no intention of socializing with them anymore. She coldly refused, “No matter who negotiated
it, all projects must
be verified to ensure fairness.”
Mathilda and Conrad’s smiles froze immediately.
Coral had been holding back her anger all night, and finally, she couldn’t bear it anymore.
“Janet, stop! So what if you come back? My parents have worked so hard for the company that they
almost live there now. You want to destroy everything as soon as you return? Do you still have a
conscience?”
She really couldn’t stand Janet’s superior attitude.
When Janet was away, she was the beloved one. But after Janet came back, she wanted to take back
everything, and even her parents had to listen to her. Why?
Janet paused and looked at her cousin who she hadn’t seen for ten years.
Everything had changed, except Coral. She was still as stup*d as ten years ago. Whenever she got
mad, all she could do was a
curse. So silly.
She looked at Coral coldly. “Since you know nothing about business, stop and keep being brainless.
Why did you have to meddle? Do you want to embarrass yourself with your stup*dity?”
“Who is brainless? How dare you!”
Coral stepped forward in anger, wanting to hit Janet, but was startled by a dog bark
When she looked up, she saw Beacher walking down with his dog.
“I knew I heard a dog barking downstairs loudly. It turns out to be you.”
Beacher was dressed in casual clothes. He seemed gentle and harmless, but Conrad, who had dealt
with him countless times in
the past few years, knew that he was nothing like his appearance.
He quickly grabbed his daughter, stopped being an onlooker, and scolded, “What are you doing?
Juliana just came back, so she is inevitably a little confused. Even if she is unwilling to communicate
with us, you can’t hit her!”
“My cousin is not confused at all. It’s just that communication is only for human beings, not dogs. Am I
right, Mr. Doherty?”
Beacher had already walked up to Janet. He nestled lazily on the sofa, and the mastiff nestled beside
him, looking extremely
leisurely.
Janet was speechless. Beacher put on his arrogance again.
Conrad felt very humiliated, but he couldn’t do anything because he wasn’t in control.
Now that Janet was the president of the company, he could only wrong his daughter temporarily before
he got what he
wanted.
“Coral, apologize to your cousin.”
“I won’t!”
Coral raised her head high and refused to admit defeat. She had never apologized to anyone since she
was a child. Moreover,
she had always looked down upon Janet. She would rather commit suicide than apologizes to Janet!
“Apologize! You don’t even listen to me now, do you?”
Conrad was already furious, and he was even angrier after being provoked by his daughter.
Coral’s stubborn look made Conrad seem to see how Janet humiliated him in the company mercilessly.
Then, he directly kicked
Coral’s knee.
Coral didn’t even understand what happened when her legs went limp, and she knelt in front of Janet.
“Coral, there’s no need to kneel.”
Janet didn’t even try to avoid it. She looked at them coldly and became completely disappointed with
her aunt’s family.
Coral was stunned.
She got up from the ground, looked at her parents in disbelief, then glared at Janet. She tried to say
something but didn’t dare. Then, she slammed the door and left, leaving her parents behind.
Mathilda took a deep breath, pinched her fingertips into her palm, and forced a smile. “Janet, don’t
argue with her. Her words are harsh, but she had a kind heart.”
She pulled Conrad to get up and said to Janet like an elder, “Janet, you should rest well. Your uncle
knows more about the company than you, so you can ask him if you have any questions. We’ll be
leaving now.”
Janet didn’t move and only raised her chin slightly. “Okay, goodbye.”
Mathilda and Conrad walked outside with a smile. Then, their expressions immediately changed as
they glanced at each other and made the same decision tacitly!
