My Pretty Sweetheart (Arianna)

Chapter 2259

Chapter 2259

"He slipped away." Freya spread out her hands, signaling that there was nothing there, no need to search.

Hendrix lowered his eyelids, deep in thought, then turned and started to leave.

"Wait," I stopped him. "Do you know what have they done to Evan?"

As silent as a mountain, Hendrix's back was facing me as he stopped.

Perhaps he didn't know, or he refused to admit it, but I wanted him to face reality, I wanted him to face everything he used to care about.

"Those people broke into Evan's house. They surrounded his wife and kids, threatened and forced him, injecting things into his body. You have seen drug addicts before, and that is Evan now. He trusted you, but what did he get in return? How did you treat him? You watched as Andrea humiliated and trampled all over him, you wanted him to pay for your personal gratitude and grudges, he was even willing to give up his body for those nasty things. He doesn't even want anyone to see him. This is how you treat friends who are closer to you than your brothers."

I walked up to him and forced him to look me in the eyes. The distance between us was not more than a fist.

When I was certain that his dark eyes were looking at me, my confidence soared as I confronted him head-on, "You're just acting, or you wouldn't have come."

Hendrix tilted his head as his eyes darkened. "So?"

I was taken aback by his answer, and looking upon his handsome, familiar face, my mind went blank.

I had always thought that the people were mostly kind, that even if they were strangers, they would still feel compassion for someone hurt. But right at that moment, compassion wasn't something that appeared in Hendrix's eyes.

Had he hidden it all too well, or was I too sensitive?

"Don't tell me that you think he deserved of all that?" I spoke softly, my voice hoarse. As long as Hendrix was unprovoked, I wouldn't need to hear answers that I wouldn't be able to accept.

But I had already heard it.

Hendrix did not even bat an eye as he answered a voice as calm as a cold silent lake. "No, all I can say is that he wasn't smart enough." "What?" I didn't immediately realize what he'd meant by saying that.

Hendrix replied patiently once again but what he said was dry and barbed, "Aren't I fine now?"

What I heard made me feel

exasperated. When had Hendrix

become so conceited? Those people were sent by Andrea to take revenge on Evan, so what did it have to do with Evan not being smart enough?

I helplessly lifted a hand and rubbed my forehead. I needed to slow down so I could think of a way to turn back Hendrix's twisted mind. However, Hendrix never bothered to wait for my reply, with a casual step he was prepared to leave. Fortunately, I reacted fast enough to step forward and block his way.

Without Jordan and Andrea messing around by his side, this was an opportunity to communicate, so how could I let him get away?'

Hendrix stopped and frowned. He tilted his head to look at me and said, "You'd better let me go immediately, perhaps you could still save Evan's dear life."

Strong oppressive energy choked me as I looked into his deep dark eyes, inexplicably stunned. I could not believe what I just heard.Material © NôvelDrama.Org.

He said it himself, that I was an inconvenience. So he had to use any way he could to get rid of this inconvenience.

Hendrix saw my reaction his face showed a faint smile. "You can continue to block me if you do not believe me. It's just a person's life, I could just pay a little compensation and after that, things will go back to the way it was before."

Money, money, money. The Hendrix Roberts who talked about money all day long was terrible inside out.

If I could, I would have hurled myself on him and punched the life out of his brain for thinking God knows what.

But I couldn't. Evan's rationality was compromised, he was out there, alone. Even if I was unwilling, I could only clench my jaw stare helplessly as Hendrix left without looking back.

His back was as broad and firm as before, but I couldn't help feeling heartbroken.

Hendrix Roberts, what exactly were

you thinking? If you'd wanted to save him in the first place, you could have taken control from the start. If you'd never wanted to save him, why

would you show up here? Content

I had to admit that when he'd decided to truly hide his thoughts, I had no way of finding out the truth.

Those who were naive enough to think that love conquered all would forever live in deadly chains, forever trapped in a loop.
