Back at the company, Matthew had Kent bring him today's work schedule as usual.
"Mr. Leon, today's workload is even heavier than yesterday, so you might have to work overtime again."
Kent was used to working overtime because as long as there was a chance for a raise, he had no complaints. Matthew had always been generous with employee benefits, offering double pay for overtime, which served as motivation for the employees under him.
"Alright... Isn't Sunrise Group supposed to send someone over today to discuss the Eurovian project with us? Have you done the preparations for that?"
"Mr. Leon... That's actually what I wanted to talk to you about today. Last week, we discussed work-related matters and contract details with Sunrise Group, but this morning, their head sent us an email saying they want to have a more in-depth discussion about profit distribution in the contract.” Matthew was getting a little impatient. "Why is the head of Sunrise Group changing their stance now? And just before our meeting?"
"I'm not entirely sure either, Mr. Leon. After receiving the email, I contacted him, but they insisted on further discussing the profit distribution. That's why I'm only informing you now."
"Changing their stance at the last minute is very out of character for Sunrise Group."
"Exactly."
Kent was puzzled too. While Sunrise Group could not match Leon Corporation's status, they still had a decent reputation in the industry. Normally, they would have discussed and agreed on contract terms like profit distribution well in advance instead of having a sudden change of mind like today. "What are the new conditions they're proposing?"
"Well, we initially agreed on a 70-30 profit split in our previous contract as it was a fair split since our company is contributing more in terms of funding and manpower."
Sunrise Group was essentially
vel
reaping the benefits of others, receiving 30% of the profits from this project. This 30% was substantial considering the collaboration between Leon Corporation and Sunrise Group was going to be one of the largest investment projects in Charleston this year, so it was guaranteed to be profitable.
Leon Corporation covered a hefty amount of capital while Sunrise Group was expected to provide the necessary manpower and
resources. Although, in comp
to Leon Corporation, their
contribution was minimal and hardly worth mentioning.

Matthew had already gone above and beyond with his commitments.
"How much are they asking for exactly?"
Kent hesitated as if he was sure Matthew would not be happy to hear the proposed figure, but he knew he had to convey the situation truthfully. "Their representative is suggesting a 50-50 split, saying they'll only agree to continue with this project under those terms."
"50-50?!" Matthew could not believe what he was hearing.
Sunrise Group had been considered a relatively cooperative partner in his eyes, so why were they making such unreasonable demands now? "Did they propose to increase their capital?"
"No, they didn't. That's why I thought to inform you about this urgent matter immediately."
"So, Sunrise Group wants to avoid
paying significant upfront costs but still expects to receive half of the profits later on? Do they think that's possible?"
Kent understood what he meant, so he promptly sent an email to Sunrise Group, rejecting their request.
