Chapter 52
Vincent dropped to his knees, almost dropping the other bundle. Millie took the bundle wrapped in pink. She was cooing to her. I looked at the bundle of blue crying on my chest. I pulled my gown down and he latched on. He was so handsome. White hair with violet Vincent stood by my side and put his head against mine. "I thought I lost you," he cried.
eyes. His skin was also very pale. He was pouting as he ate.
"You did and you still might," I said, making everyone in the room do still. I pushed out, trying to reach Sasha.
"Sasha, are you there?" I asked.
"I am here. I can't feel both pups anymore. I see them both through you as babies but I can only feel one pup." I was stunned.
I opened my eyes again to focus on my family in the room. "To survive I made a few deals."
"With Selene?" Cole asked.
"I am surprised to see you here," I said.
"Well, the new King of Wolves must make sure his strongest ally is ok." He smiled.
"Oh no, I'm sorry." I said, looking at Drake. "I can't believe you killed him. How will Cash trust you?"
Cole laughed. "Your plot worked. My father surrendered and Drake accepted on the condition he made me King. Which he did, but back to you, who did you make the deal with?"
"It was with Selene and the mother of Wicka," I said. Dr. Rosenbaum walked in at that instant.
"Everyone but you two out." He said, pointing at Vincent and Millie. The doctor looked at me. "She is a very handy nurse," he said with a smile.NôvelDrama.Org owns © this.
Everyone kissed the babies and me before they left. Reagan promised to stay until I was better to watch over Katie. I didn't say it at the time, but I think she will need to stay for some time. If I am to hold up my end of the deal.
"You need to rest." Dr. Rosenbaum said, "You did die for about 3 minutes. It didn't make sense that you came back."
"It makes sense to me. I made a deal to substitute the blood of my father with mine. They agreed to give me one more chance to end what he started. It would come with a cost. I must kill my father and there will be a price to pay for defying Selene."
"I don't know if I call you lucky or cursed." Dr. Rosenbaum said as he took my vitals. "Either way, you are on the mend."
At that moment, the bundle that had been nursing detached and began to cry. "I do not understand what is so wrong with that child. He is unlike his sister," Vincent said.
"He is missing his wolf," I said. Everyone looked at me.
"I met his wolf on the other side. I met both as pups with Sasha and Selene. I think his wolf was the price I paid," I said in shame.
"Well, he will be the cutest warlock ever." Millie said, picking him up and cooing till he stopped crying. She really did have the touch.
Vincent gave me the pink bundle. Unlike her brother, she was the spitting image of her father. Dark black hair and skin. She looked up at me with deep blue sapphire eyes. I fed her as well before giving her to Millie to set in their bassinets. Millie excused herself and left.
"Never do that to me again," he said. "I can not lose you. You are my world."
"Were you not listening?" I questioned him. "I will have to do it one more time. To give me some time with my kids, I have until the next full moon before I must kill my father or die myself."
"I won't allow it," he said with a growl.
I pulled him to me. "You won't have a choice. I am sorry our son lost his wolf because of me."
"I'm not. He will be loved with or without a wolf. We are not like the pack you grew up in. You know that."
"I do. I just wished there was a way I could fix it all," I said.
"The full moon is two weeks away," he said. "Is that enough time?"
"It will have to be," I said. "He is smart. He won't meet me with my magic. I will have to fight him in human or wolf form."
"Well, get a rest because these screaming banshees will want to eat again in a few hours and you need enough rest so we can train." He said as he climbed into the bed with me. I rested my head on him and fell asleep.
The next time I woke to the blue bundle crying I got up and picked him up. Vincent picked up the girl.
"Did you name them?" I asked. I would not have been mad if he had.
"No. Although Millie has taken to calling the girl Violet and the boy Fenrir. She said they won't remember." He smiled at me.
"Well, what do you think? It is quite literally the reverse, as he has violet eyes, and she has a wolf." I laughed to myself as I began to nurse Fenrir. "We can call them Vi and Ri for short. Maybe the link to the god himself will earn me some pace with the goddess." "Vi and Ri it is." He said, cradling Violet in his arms. After feeding her, we went back to bed. It would be a long night as a new mother. About halfway through, the nurse took over the feeding so I could get enough rest to function the next day.
Everyone was excited about the new names. Millie was most excited. She was the best babysitter and I think it was a good distraction from her boy drama. Each day Millie, Diane, Reagan, or Mrs. Brown would take shifts watching the babies so I could train with Vincent. We trained both in human and wolf form.
I was getting good. I even took Vincent down a few times in wolf form and he swore Marcus was not holding back. The days were a blur of activity. We had planned to send a letter to be dropped from a dragon to my father. The scouts knew where he was. I wrote the letter. Dear father,
In one week, I request your presence for a duel. You may choose the location and bind me of my powers. We will meet on the night of the full moon. By the end, this war may be over. If you decline to show, the moon goddess has decided to strip you of your wolf and you will become human. If your pack doesn't kill you, I am sure you will die a meager death.
Should you win, I will not participate in the war for the kingdom as I will be dead. Should I win, your pack will be allowed to choose to continue as rogues or pledge their allegiance to the pack of their choosing. We have been promised by all packs that there will be openings. Your Daughter.
We made 900 copies and Drake had seven dragons fly them over the rogue land and dropped them. If my father didn't directly receive the letter. One of his warriors would and they would show it to him.
When they were not fighting me or spending time with family, Cole and Vincent had been busy calling all the packs to ensure agreement to accept rogues into their packs by trial.
The bit about Selene may or may not have been exaggerated. She said he would be there and not that there would be punishment, but I wanted it to be convincing.
Blood would spill in one week. I pray it was not mine. As I held my son Ri in my arms. What would his story hold?
