PHB 27
“You’re really diligent, being at the office so early in the morning.”
Andromeda immediately addressed Lucas when she found him sitting neatly in his office at eight in the morning. Everyone knew that Lucas had officially resigned and was even going to leave for good in a few days. So, why bother being this diligent?
Instead of hanging around the office early in the morning when no one was even there yet, Andromeda wondered why he didn’t just come whenever he felt like it. After all, work attendance was no longer being counted.
“I want to hand over the remaining tasks to Mrs. Sofia.”
Lucas wasn’t entirely boasting. Today, he did have to hand over the remaining work obligations as requested by the planning manager. The rest of his time, he used to investigate Daniel’s financial data, which he could only access from Deasy’s computer in the office.
Unfortunately, despite coming early in the morning and sneaking around, he hadn’t found anything yet. As his assistant had said, most likely all the private data that Deasy considered important was kept specifically on her work laptop.
“So, once this is all done, you’ll head back immediately?”
Lucas nodded. Besides, he did have to leave soon to check on Deasy’s condition and accompany her for breakfast.
“Really just a waste of time, Luc,” Andromeda said, unable to comprehend.
“Oh, by the way, is Miss Deasy not coming to work today?”
From outside, Della and Monica approached, asking about Deasy who once again didn’t come to work.
“Yes, she’s sick. Her condition doesn’t allow her to work today.”
“Really feel sorry for her,” Della looked sympathetic, feeling pity for Deasy, who had just started working and now had to take leave due to illness.
“But how do you know that Miss Deasy is sick?” Andromeda inquired, probing for information. Squinting, she seemed to seek more explanation from Lucas. “Could it be that you have a special relationship with Miss Deasy?”
Andromeda had reason to be suspicious because, of all people, only Lucas knew that Deasy was sick. Usually, if something happened, Deasy would contact Della or Starla, not Lucas.Original content from NôvelDrama.Org.
“Well, how could I not know? Lucas shares an office with Miss Deasy. Besides, Lucas is her deputy,” Della chimed in to defend Lucas.
“That makes sense,” Andromeda nodded. “But who knows, maybe Lucas really does have a special relationship with Miss Deasy. No one knows.”
“Don’t speak thoughtlessly. That’s impossible,” Lucas objected as if he couldn’t accept the idea. In reality, he had no idea what his relationship with Deasy was like right now. It was complicated!
“Why is it impossible? Fate can be unpredictable, Luc. Maybe Miss Deasy is out there looking for a partner, and her destiny turns out to be right in front of her.”
Lucas laughed while shaking his head. It seemed impossible to him that he could be romantically involved with Deasy. Just being approached by his boss made him uncomfortable.
“Destiny may not go anywhere, but the competition is everywhere. Besides, I doubt Miss Deasy would be interested in someone like me.”
“Come on! Don’t be so self-deprecating,” Della defended him. “From my perspective, you’re naturally handsome, Luc. And a little makeover would make you even more charming. How about I help you with a makeover at my favorite salon?”
Lucas immediately shook his head vigorously. Worried that Della’s scrutiny would expose his disguise, Lucas chose to leave right away. Besides, it was almost half past eight, and Deasy probably hadn’t had breakfast yet.
As he left the office building, Lucas deliberately stopped by to buy food and some snacks, as well as fruits. Once he felt he had enough, he hurried to Deasy’s apartment to prepare breakfast.
Upon arrival, Lucas knocked on the door. It didn’t take long for Deasy to open it.
“Sorry if I’m late, Miss.”
“Whether you’re late or not, I don’t care, Luc.”
“Don’t say that,” Lucas replied with a laugh as he entered the apartment without needing an invitation. Walking to the dining area, he immediately served the food he had bought.
“Should I consider hiring a house assistant to keep Miss Deasy company during her pregnancy? Because it’s really a pity that you have to do everything alone. So, if I’m late, Miss Deasy’s breakfast, dinner, and everything else are already prepared. I’m also worried if something happens while you’re alone. It could be dangerous.”
Deasy, who was about to sit down, turned to look at him. Lucas’s behavior was starting to resemble that of a caring husband towards his wife.
“Hey, you don’t need to overdo it, and you’re getting too comfortable. Once is enough, okay? Your behavior is starting to look like those husbands who are too busy taking care of their wives.”
“Well, I am Miss Deasy’s future husband.”
“Ugh, come on.”
“Nikita Willy, Nikita Mirzani. Does Nikita just want to be friends? Doesn’t Miss Deasy want more? Instead of being single, it’s better to be my wife, Miss.”
“Hey, Lucas. Go to Solo, go to Belgium. Just let me stay single for the rest of my life. What’s important is to be happy.”
Lucas sighed. He put on an intentionally teasing expression. He couldn’t believe that anyone could be happy by choosing to stay single or be alone for their entire life.
“Don’t dream too much, Luc.”
“I’m not dreaming, Miss,” Lucas debated. While opening the food box he brought, he scooped up a bite and fed it to Deasy while continuing to talk to her.
“I bet you, in three months, Miss Deasy will be the one chasing and insisting on becoming my wife.”
“On what basis can you say that?”
Deasy unconsciously accepted the spoonful of food that Lucas offered. She chewed while continuing to watch him talk.
“On the basis that we’ll be meeting often in the next nine months. Anyone, no matter how uninterested they are at first, could end up liking someone eventually. And also, I’ll pray day and night for God to soften Miss’s heart.”
“No way. I still don’t like you.”
“You never know. Maybe two or three months from now, my face suddenly becomes handsome. Then, Miss Deasy might regret rejecting me multiple times.”
Even though Deasy wasn’t feeling nauseous at the moment, hearing Lucas’s words made her want to vomit.
“Enough already. I’m tired of arguing with you. I’m going to take a shower.”
“Oh, before you shower, finish your breakfast, Miss. Just two more bites.”
Deasy was surprised. She finally realized that she had been unconsciously enjoying the breakfast that Lucas had been feeding her. Feeling embarrassed and not wanting to say much, she accepted the last two spoonfuls before getting up to get ready for her shower.
While Deasy was cleaning up, Lucas was seen tidying up the dining table that had been filled with the food he had bought.
Convinced that everything was in order, Lucas then moved to the living room and sat on the sofa. At that moment, Deasy’s room was open. Turning his head, Lucas spotted something he had been eyeing.
Knowing that Deasy was in the shower, Lucas took advantage of the situation. Walking quietly, with the intention of grabbing Deasy’s laptop and borrowing it briefly. Even if he didn’t have time to transfer her data, at least Lucas would know where Deasy kept her important documents.
Slowly, Lucas tried to turn on the laptop. A few seconds later, a taskbar appeared, asking for the password to access the laptop.
Lucas sighed. Of course, Deasy must have set a password to prevent others from easily accessing her important belongings.
Since he had already turned it on, Lucas tried to enter random numbers, including Deasy’s birthdate and other possibilities. But it was all in vain.
After a while, he remembered something and immediately tried to enter a number that he believed might unlock the laptop.
One by one, Lucas entered the digits. Until, not long before it actually worked, he heard a surprising call.
“Lucas, what are you doing?”
