PHB 62
Initially, according to the original plan, Deasy wanted to introduce Lucas to her mother on the next Saturday or any other holiday.
However, due to the unexpected and sudden chaos after Andreas’s arrival, Deasy decided to introduce Lucas to her mother today itself.
Anyway, she wanted to quickly resolve each problem one by one. There should be no more obstacles or delays in her wedding plans with Lucas in the future. Regardless of any storm, Deasy had to marry that man.
“Mom, let me introduce. This is Deasy’s new boyfriend.”
Diana Winterborne was taken aback. She didn’t expect her daughter to suddenly visit with her new boyfriend.
Diana remembered quite well. Some time ago, her daughter was sad for days, acting like a fickle teenager because she had to leave her boyfriend to get married.
“Deasy, why cry so much over this? It’s not like there’s only one guy in the world! If he’s getting married, then fine, just find someone new. It’s a waste to be pretty but not use it. Wasted!”
Deasy immediately looked up, glaring angrily at her mother.
“It’s not the fact that he’s getting married that bothers Deasy, Mom. Deasy just can’t accept being cheated on like this. And then that Daniel guy broke up with Deasy first. Acting all high and mighty! Deasy should have been the one to break up with him.”
“But the important thing is that it’s over now.”
Deasy scowled, not accepting it.
“But, I’m sure when he tells people, he’ll say he was the one who broke up with Deasy. My pride will be shattered. Deasy won’t stand for it! Just wait, Deasy will get back at him. Deasy will find a guy who’s even more handsome, richer, and everything. Then Deasy will show off to Daniel, all those pimples, scabs, and rashes! That arrogant Magigcom guy thinks he can look down on Deasy!”
Diana didn’t forget the words and curses her daughter had uttered back then, especially about getting back at Daniel for what he had done.
Well, it wouldn’t hurt for Deasy to move on quickly and find a replacement. Especially the man her daughter had brought this time was truly different from the previous one. Honestly, it was like night and day. This time, his handsomeness was irresistible. People even said he was attractive wherever he went.
“Oh, really? So he’s your new boyfriend? The replacement for Daniel, with all those pimples, scabs, and rashes?” Diana replied playfully.
Lucas chuckled, quite familiar with the terms Devina had just mentioned.
“Yes, Auntie. Let me introduce myself, I’m Lucas.”
Diana accepted the handshake that Lucas offered and immediately made her daughter’s boyfriend feel welcome, insisting that he call her “Mom” instead of “Aunt” for a more friendly atmosphere.
“Diana winterborne. Just call me Mom, not Aunt. It sounds more familiar,” Diana requested casually, but it made Lucas appear even more nervous. “Are you working at the same office as Deasy?”
“Lucas is Deasy’s boss at the office, Mom.”Content © NôvelDrama.Org 2024.
It wasn’t Lucas but Deasy who answered, happily showing off her new boyfriend who clearly outshone her previous partners in various aspects.
“He’s really handsome, isn’t he? Turns out my daughter knows how to pick a boyfriend.”
“Mom, come on,” Deasy giggled shyly. “You’re the one who taught me. What can I say?”
Diana laughed. This was how they acted when they met-so familiar, almost like best friends, rather than the formal mother-daughter relationship.
“So, how’s it going?” Diana asked Lucas next.
“Huh? What do you mean, Aunt? Uh, I mean, Mom?”
Diana laughed first, understanding that the young man in front of her was still quite nervous.
“I mean, Lucas, how’s your relationship? Is it serious? Or are you still getting to know each other? What’s the deal?”
“We’re very serious, Mom,” Deasy chimed in again. Diana couldn’t help but roll her eyes at her daughter’s behavior. “Des, can you please be quiet for a moment? You’re talking like a metromini. Mom is interrogating your boyfriend.”
“Sure thing, Ma. She’s so chatty.”
“How about it, Lucas?” Diana turned to Lucas, looking at her daughter’s boyfriend with a deep and serious gaze. “How long have you been dating Deasy?”
“It’s still relatively new, Ma. We’ve only known each other for a few months. But I’m serious. I came here to ask for your permission.”
“Ask for permission for what? A date? To go out? What?” Diana inquired, especially since Lucas, who had been nervous earlier, now appeared more serious.
“Actually, my reason for coming here is to ask for your permission to propose to Deasy and marry her soon.”
Diana was taken aback once again. She had thought that her daughter’s relationship with her new boyfriend was still in the early stages of getting to know each other or casual dating. Who would have guessed that it was already progressing towards something more serious like marriage?
It didn’t matter to her if Deasy wanted to get married right away. After all, in terms of age, her daughter was already very mature. Delaying things could be risky, and she might end up becoming an old maid.
“You want to marry Deasy?” Diana asked, now wearing a serious expression.
“Yes, Ma.”
“Are you sure?”
“100% sure,” Lucas nodded repeatedly.
“But she eats a lot, you know.”
“I’m aware, Ma.”
“She’s also a bit extravagant and often shops for unnecessary things.”
“That’s not a problem. I have plenty of money,” Lucas replied confidently.
“Not to mention, she’s talkative, and there are moments when she acts a bit crazy, Luc. Plus, her quirks often resurface. Are you sure you can accept her as she is?”
“Mom!” Deasy protested. She wondered why her mother was speaking so candidly. Well, it wasn’t exactly candid, but some things should be kept private, right? They shouldn’t be aired out like this.
“Just be quiet, Des. Mom is having a serious conversation with your boyfriend,” Deasy instructed, putting her finger to her lips to signal Deasy not to blurt out anything before she was done talking to Lucas.
“But, Lucas,” Diana continued. “Honestly, if you had asked for permission to date her and get to know each other first, I wouldn’t have been surprised. But now you want to get married right away? Are you serious? Have you thought all of this through carefully? I’m afraid you might regret it after getting married. Besides, Deasy has a lot of flaws. From being a bit temperamental, a perfectionist, unwilling to compromise, bossy, vengeful, sometimes possessed, stubborn, spoiled, whiny, and she doesn’t shower much either. Even I can’t handle her.”
Deasy sighed in defeat. Her self-esteem was shattered as her mother revealed all her flaws and shortcomings. It seemed that Lucas might end up feeling repelled by her instead of being sure about their relationship.
“It’s okay, Mom. That’s why you don’t have to bother with Deasy anymore. Let me handle it. I accept Deasy as she is. I’ll complement her strengths and weaknesses. After all, married couples should complement and support each other. I have plenty of shortcomings too. I’m not perfect like people may think.”
“But, marriage isn’t as simple as you imagine, Lucas.”
“I know, Mom. They say married life has its ups and downs, it’s not easy. Because simplicity is only found in Padang restaurants.”
Diana laughed briefly. Lucas, who had been serious all along, suddenly lightened the mood with a joke.
“But, indeed, marriage isn’t easy.”
“That’s right. I agree,” Lucas replied. “But no matter what, I’m ready to accept all the consequences. I’m confident in Deasy. She’s the only woman I want and hope to have as my wife, someone who will stand by me for the rest of my life and care for me until we’re old. She’s also the woman I want to bear my children and be the mother of my future kids.”
Diana’s heart melted. She felt a mix of emotions, both touched and happy, as her daughter had finally found a suitable future husband. From Lucas’s words and gestures, it was clear that he was serious and sincere.
“Why are you crying, Mom?” Deasy asked when she noticed her mother shedding tears. Lucas hadn’t said anything sad or hurtful. He was being serious.
“You put the Tupperware credit card bill here, that’s why Mama is sad.”
“Ugh, really, Mom? I’m being serious.”
“Well, Mama is moved, so she’s asking why.”
Lucas scratched his head. Why were the mother and daughter in front of him suddenly engaging in playful banter?
“So… how about it, Mom?” Lucas tried to refocus on the main topic.
Diana then turned to Lucas, smiled, and nodded.
“Well, it actually depends on Deasy. If she feels compatible and comfortable with you, why would I stop her? Besides, it’s her future marriage and family life we’re talking about.”
“So, Mom gives her consent and approves of Lucas’s request to propose and marry Deasy soon?”
Diana nodded in agreement.
“Yes, I give my blessing and permission. What about your own parents?”
Lucas fell silent. Why hadn’t he thought about questions like this? Everywhere, marriage usually required the consent and blessings of both families, right? He realized it was a mistake to come visit without thorough preparation.
“About that-”
“Originally, Lucas’s parents don’t know about this wedding plan, Mom,” Deasy replied again, deliberately talking and taking over the conversation. “But, Mom, don’t worry. Our plan to get married will definitely be approved. What matters is getting your blessing first.”
Lucas turned to look at Deasy. However, the woman in front of him signaled not to say much to his mother. After all, Deasy deliberately didn’t talk much about Lucas’s parents. She didn’t want his mother to feel sad when she found out what was really happening.
“Thank goodness for that,” Diana said with relief. “Mom will be waiting for more good news from you both.”
After chatting at length and seeking blessings, Lucas and Deasy finally decided to go home feeling relieved. At least they had one permission and blessing in their pockets now.
