Chapter 116 Just Playing Around

“Stop right there!”

There were fifteen minutes left. Eileen was about to head upstairs when she heard a roar echo from somewhere.

Shortly after, two people walked out from the entrance of the residential area. Elm had a cigarette in his hand, and chasing behind him was a stunning young lady who had styled her hair in long, wavy curls and was wearing a knitted maxi dress.

The young lady caught up with Elm and slapped him across the face. “Elm, you’re nothing but scum! What gives you the right to break up with me? Do you think you can send me away with just a text message? What do you take me for? A plaything you can summon and dismiss at your whim?”

Instead of getting angry, Elm smiled. He tossed away the cigarette in his hand and slipped his hands into his pockets. “I’m just fooling around. When I’m bored, I quit.”

Under the streetlights, the Blake light sprinkled on Elm’s head. As the gentle breeze blew, the stray strands of hair on his forehead covered his attractive, almond-shaped eyes. Half his face swelled up quickly, and a handprint appeared almost instantly.

“To be honest, I’m not interested in women who throw themselves at me. Maybe you should look for someone else!”

The elegantly dressed young lady pulled out a bottle of water from her bag and furiously poured it over Elm’s head. “Just you wait. My dad won’t let you off easily.”

Then, she threw the bottle aside and left quickly, leaving behind the disheveled Elm.

He shook the water off his head and swept his hair back.

I don’t think his girlfriend looked like this when I saw her the other time… Eileen was enjoying the show before her when, unexpectedly, the man looked in her direction.

His gaze seemed to ask if she enjoyed what she saw.

She calmly met his gaze for a few seconds. Then, she turned around, stepped into the elevator, and pressed the button to go upstairs, all while feigning composure.

“Entering 810214, the password lock indicated a successful entry. That string of numbers for the door lock was Vera’s birth date.

She had memorized it after seeing Eric enter it once earlier that day.

Opening the door, she noticed the lights in the living room were still on, yet no one was around.

They must’ve been left on for me.

Eileen closed the door. A wave of fatigue quickly replaced the excitement within her when she saw the couch, which reminded her of the soft and comfortable bed. She walked to the kitchen and opened the refrigerator, intending to drink a glass of milk. But at the thought that she was still on her period, she ultimately decided against it.

Just then, her phone in her pocket vibrated. When she glanced at the screen, she found a text message from a familiar contact.

Jasper texted: You moved?

Eileen saw the messages sent on different dates. She grabbed a washed cucumber from the refrigerator and started munching on it as she casually crafted a message: My house is being

renovated.

At this moment, a single lamp stood illuminated in Undella Mansion and the Swan residence.

Before Eileen clicked on the send button, she deleted the original text in the dialogue box and replaced it with one word: Yeah.

The screen displayed that the message had been sent successfully.

Wearing gray-striped pajamas, the man sat on his bed. A book on how to suppress emotions. and treat mental illness lay on the blanket, spread open.

A faint smile graced Jasper’s face upon seeing the response he received. She’s finally willing to talk to me.

Richard glanced at the man on the bed, his hands holding medicine and a glass of water. Then, he knocked on the door.

“Come in,” Jasper uttered.

Richard worriedly said, “Mr. Jasper, you should get some rest now. Here’s your medicine.”

“Mm.” Jasper set his phone aside. He hoped he would receive another message from her when he picked up his phone again.

He then took the sleeping pill and washed it down with water. Richard took the him and asked, “Mr. Jasper, are you still waiting for Ms. Eileen’s message?”

“What do you think… she’s doing right now?”

Richard answered, “At this hour, Ms. Eileen should’ve just returned from her extracurricular class. She went to Primas Plaza to practice golf today. Mr. Wright was the one who sent her back.”

“Who is he?” Jasper frowned slightly. “Never mind. Send me all his information tomorrow.”

“Got it, Mr. Jasper.”

“You can leave now. I want to rest.”

“Okay.”

After Richard left, Jasper picked up his phone again.

Sadly, all his hopes were dashed.

In a fit of frustration, he threw the book in his hand out, sending it crashing toward the painting on the wall. The masterpiece, an original work of a famous artist worth millions, shattered instantly.

Hearing a commotion coming from the room, Richard let out a sigh.

If things continue like this, Mr. Jasper will inevitably end up in a bad state sooner or later. He’s finally taken control of the company’s affairs. If it collapses now, it would be detrimental to him! Mr. Jasper can sit securely in his high position not only because he has the support of Old Mr. and Mrs. Smith but also that of ex-Mrs. Friedman. Nothing must go wrong at this juncture.

Richard looked at the glass of water in his hand. No matter how good the medicine is, it’s not comparable to having Ms. Eileen’s company. Perhaps it’s time I do something. Mr. Jasper’s illness has flared up again. Hopefully, he doesn’t do things that will harm himself again like he did in the past.

Meanwhile, Eileen cited her busy study schedule as an excuse to brush off Jasper. By the time she hung up the phone and finished her nightly routine, it was almost midnight. She turned off the desk

lamp and quietly lay down on her bed.

When she woke up at six in the morning, Sharon had already finished preparing breakfast. Eric also woke up earlier than usual and came out of his room. Eileen and Eric sat at the dining table, quietly enjoying their meal.

They both didn’t say a word, yet the atmosphere was strangely harmonious.

Sharon poured the warmed milk into a glass bottle and placed it in front of Eileen, along with the lunch for the day.

“The milk is still hot. Remember to drink it.””

“Mm-hmm.”

“Did you bring the painkillers? Does it still hurt?”

Sharon mentioned Eileen’s menstrual cramps.

“It’s much better now,” Eileen replied.

“Remember to call me if it becomes unbearable.”

“There’s a clinic at school. I’ll be fine.”

Noticing that it was almost time for the bus to arrive, Eileen quickly set aside her half-eaten bowl of oatmeal. “I need to catch the bus. I’m not eating anymore.”

“Hey, grab your things.”

Eileen turned to grab her thermal bag and hurried out, reaching downstairs just in time.

This child’s habit of being forgetful hasn’t changed at all!

Someone was already on the bus, and it was Elm.

How strange. Given his arrogant attitude, he can go to school whenever he wants, regardless of the time. But look at him now, waking up so early to go to school? Has he turned over a new leaf? C0ntent © 2024 (N/ô)velDrama.Org.

Throughout the bus ride, the two of them had no interaction. He didn’t even glance at her once. It was as if nothing had happened the night before.

The things I said to him before, and how he didn’t show up at the library… If he’s not willing, then so be it. I can focus better this way, too.

She sat by the bus window, and after about ten minutes, the bus arrived at the school.

Eileen walked at a distance that was neither too far nor too close to Elm.

At the school gate, several men and women dressed in dark-colored clothes and holding wreaths were seen crying uncontrollably.

“Oh, my poor nephew! He was imprisoned at such a young age, and my sister was killed. Everyone, come quickly and seek justice for me! This is so unfair!”

The street, which was mainly filled with schools, was crowded with parents sending their children to school at that hour. The crowd was significant, but since they were mostly affluent or privileged, hardly anyone stopped or lingered to watch the commotion and instead took a different route.

Unfortunately, the security personnel couldn’t chase away those men and women. Left with

no other option, they had to seek permission from their superiors to open the gate for the cars to enter, so as not to startle the other students.

Seeing this, Eileen felt a growing sense of unease.

Who are those people… What on earth happened?
