Mayra was laughing with no idea that danger was approaching. The person standing in the shadows had heard everything she said. She wiped off the
bubbles on her hands on Gordon’s face. “Gordon, why aren’t you saying anything?”
It was just a light touch, but when Mayra looked at the tips of his ears, she could see that they were already reddening.
“What do you want to eat tomorrow? I’ll make it for you.”
When he looked up, their eyes met. Mayra looked deeply into his eyes. He made her feel safe and stable. No one apart from Anderson had ever made h
Mayra’s eyes curved up into crescents as she smiled. “As long as you’re the one cooking it, I’ll like it. You’re the best, Gordon. You’re the person I like the most.”
“Mayra!” A low, cold voice rang out. There was anger in its tone.
When Mayra heard it, she froze and looked at Anderson in alarm. She had no idea when he had appeared. “A–Andy…”
Anderson strode over at a measured pace.
He had a thunderous expression on his face, making her feel pressured and
afraid.
Anderson rarely made Mayra feel that way.
“Is a meal all it takes to steal you away?” Mayra was already standing nervously as Anderson looked at her with impassive eyes. She gripped her clothes tightly.
He said, “If the maids‘ cooking doesn’t taste good, you can tell me. You don’t need to go to an outsider’s house to leech food off them.”
“Andy…” Mayra wanted to explain, but he cut her off at once.
“Shane.”
Shane knew what Anderson wanted, so he took out his wallet from his jacket pocket. He put a few bills on the stone table beside them. “This money is to

thank you for taking care of Ms. Sadler and also for her food.”
“We’re classmates. I don’t need it.”
“Andy, Mr. Gorman, what are you doing?” Mayra lost her temper. Taking the money out like that was insulting Gordon. She grabbed the money off the table and stuffed it back into Shane’s hand. “I just came here to hang out. Do you have to insult others this way?
“I know you have money, Andy! But when did you become like this? Do you have to bring money into everything?
“Can’t I just have dinner at a friend’s house?”
Anderson’s brows furrowed, and the tone of his voice dropped even further.‘ Do you want me to stop caring about you? If so, you might as well disown me.” Anderson turned and left.
Shane said, “Ms. Sadler, you were at fault this time. Mr. Barlow was worried that you would get into an accident after leaving the mansion. He delayed the shoot and dinner at the Fishers‘ place to come and look for you. You shouldn’t have made him so angry for an outsider.
Mayra was confused.
How could that be? How could Anderson have delayed his engagement shoot with Isabel?
Mayra bit her lip, regretting her impulsiveness in speaking.
She had just taken one step to go and explain to Anderson when she suddenly thought of the backpack that she had left in Gordon’s room. She turned and ran to the bedroom to get it.
She stopped momentarily to comfort Gordon and said, “Gordon, don’t take it to heart. I lied. I ran away from home, which is why Andy is so angry… ConTEent bel0ngs to Nôv(e)lD/rama(.)Org .
