Jenny bit her lip. It had hit a nerve, “Mr. Jakeman wouldn’t abandon Rowan. I’ll do my best to satisfy his parents.”
“If the Jakeman family never accepts you, they’ll never let him go home if he remains with you. Have you thought of what will happen? Are you going to marry him while you two are still broke?”
“I–I wouldn’t marry him now. Didn’t I say I would do everything I could to please them?” Jenny was growing impatient.
She was about to say something to stop her friend from continuing to run her mouth when she saw a woman with a gorgeous figure. Jenny stopped speaking and her eyes widened. “Skylar?”
What a coincidence. Why had she run into Skylar here? Did this mean that Skylar had heard her whole conversation?
Jenny paled.
Skylar turned back and glanced at Jenny. She said calmly, “What a
coincidence.”
Jenny’s friend asked, “Do you know her?”
Jenny bit her lip and replied, “I know her, but not very well. I’m not in
the mood for a barbecue, actually. Let’s eat somewhere else.”
Jenny’s friend picked up on what was going on and said, “Alright, let’s
go.”
After they left, Skylar frowned.
At the same time, Caleb walked out and asked, “Skylar, we’re having dessert. Would you like some?”
“I’m stuffed. You guys enjoy.”
Jenny seemed distracted after leaving the barbecue restaurant.
“Why do you seem so disoriented after meeting that gorgeous lady? Is there some bad blood between you two?”
Jenny came to and replied, “I’m afraid she’ll tell Rowan about what we said. Although we hadn’t meant it in a bad way, he might take it negatively. I don’t want him to misunderstand me.”
“Don’t worry. Even if someone badmouths you to him, Rowan wouldn’t believe them. He’s utterly devoted to you! In addition, we hadn’t said anything just now. She’s gorgeous. Who knew she’d turn out to be such an evil woman? Does she have a crush on Rowan?”
“I don’t know about that, but I definitely don’t like her.”
“Let it be. If you don’t like her, we won’t talk about her. I’m starving. Let’s find somewhere to eat.”
Jenny was still shaken up by what had happened. She murmured distractedly, “Let’s go for whichever cuisine you like. I’m alright with anything.”
Not only was she terrified that Skylar would speak ill of her to Rowan, but she was also afraid that the Jakemans would abandon Rowan.
If Rowan could no longer return to the Jakemans, how would he be different from the regular man? Thus, Jenny had to find an opportunity to convince Rowan to return home and beg for his parents
forgiveness.
Paul walked out of the surveillance room with a new video, in his
phone. He’d asked the guards there to labor throughout the night to look for the footage. Finally, he found the recording from two months
ago.
“Mr. Martin, we found the person who brought the pen to your office,” Paul reported immediately.
Joe put his work down and looked up at Paul. He asked, “Who was it?” All rights © NôvelDrama.Org.
Paul pulled up a clip on his phone. He’d asked the guards in the surveillance room to crop this out into a separate video.
“It was Jenny. In the surveillance video, we could clearly see Jenny holding a fountain pen in her hands. When no one was looking, she slipped it into your penholder,” as Paul spoke, he played the video.
Her every movement was perfectly caught. The surveillance cameras in the Martin Group were filmed in high definition. It was even clearer after enlargement.
Jenny’s relationship with Edwin had shocked him to the core. He wasn’t expecting her to have such a trick up her sleeve.
