The Embarrassment

The Embarrassment

ZOE could hear the loud beating of her heart—it was deafening. That aura—she knew who owned it. She looked at Cindy, whose eyes were pierced into her. At this moment, she knew that Cindy was not joking. Cindy reached for her hand and pressed it. “Helios is here,” she whispered, making Zoe nod her head. “I know,” she replied. Zoe closed her eyes for a moment to calm her heart. She counted up to three before she felt the presence of Helios, who sat on her side. ‘He knew? Does he know that I am pregnant?’ she thought. “Cindy…” Zoe muttered Cindy’s name. Cindy moved closer to her as she was sitting on her sight while Helios sat on the left. “Water, please,” Zoe said. Cindy frowned and was about to stand when Helios spoke. “I’ll get—” “Call the waiter,” Zoe said, her eyes fixed on Cindy’s. Cindy heaved a deep sigh and reached for Zoe’s hand. “Accompany me at the restroom,” she said as she pulled Zoe upward. “We can ask for a glass of water on our way,” she added. But Cindy knew that it was Zoe’s alibi. Cindy slightly bowed her head towards Helios. “Please excuse us for a moment,” she uttered. Helios then nodded his head. Zoe never dared to look at Helios—not even a single glance. Cindy pulled Zoe inside the restroom and locked the door. “What’s wrong with you, Zoe?” Cindy asked, slight bafflement filled in her eyes. Zoe met Cindy’s gaze and shook her head. “I can’t do it—I am not ready to face him. I’m going to break down.” “Zoe…” Cindy reached for her hands and held them, “—think of the good side. This is your chance. Don’t you want Helios to know about your situation? You can’t hide these things for the rest of your

life.” Zoe took a deep breath and sighed. “I know. But—” “Remove the word ‘but.’ Don’t even think of that word,” Cindy said. Zoe nods her head. “Act normal. Answer whatever he will ask you. Don’t be afraid.” Zoe bit her lower lip. Cindy is knocking her sense once again, and it was a great help. “Yes, thank you, Cindy.” Cindy flashed a smile at her. “I’m always here.” Zoe then smiled back and nodded. After that, they stepped out of the restroom. “Where are they, dude?” Grant asked soon as he approached the table. Helios glared at him, making Grant shrink from his place. Grant knew that Helios was not in the mood, so he would just keep his mouth shut. ‘Why am I surrounded by weird people?’ Grant thought. After a couple of minutes, Grant saw Cindy and Zoe approaching their place. Grant flashed a smile, but Cindy just rolled her eyes. ‘Seriously?’ Grant thought once again. Zoe was about to pull the chair when Helios did the work, making their skin touch each other. She felt the familiar spark from his slight touch. ‘Damn,’ she cursed inside her mind. Helios guided her until she sat down. Cindy, on the side, pressed her lips together as she tried to hold her laughter. “Hmm… let’s order?” Grant broke the awkward silence that filled the atmosphere. Cindy grabbed the menu book and smiled. “Yes. Hmm…” she wandered her eyes around and called the waiter. “Give me the most expensive meal on the menu, also the expensive drink,” she added. Zoe frowned and couldn’t believe how thick Cindy’s face was. After a few moments, the waiter gets their order. “Anyway, Grant,” It was Cindy as she sipped on the glass of wine. Grant arched his brow. “What?”

“I didn’t smell your perfume—” “It’s because Zoe hates the smell of it,” he replied. Zoe’s eyes widened. Now, that’s the assurance that they know about her pregnancy. “All right!” Cindy clapped her hands to lighten the atmosphere. “The food is coming,” she added. Zoe shook her head in disbelief. “Zoe, you must eat veggies—” “I know,” Zoe interrupted the words of Cindy. Cindy rolled her eyes. They were drowning in the soft music that surrounded the floor as they savored the food that was served to them. Cindy, as usual, can’t help but to talk and criticize the food that she ordered. No one spoke among them except Cindy. “Geez, I thought it was delicious, but it isn’t. It was only filled with salt and pepper. What kind of expensive food is this?” she asked simultaneously. However, no one answered her. Zoe could feel the sharp gaze of Helios, but she never dared to do side-glancing. She continued to eat her food and finish everything on her plate. The food she ordered was appetizing, and for a moment, she burped. ‘Damn, that’s embarrassing,’ she thought. Cindy pressed her lips as she met Zoe’s gaze, and after a few seconds, she laughed. Zoe wished to sink from where she was at that moment. “T-That’s because I am eating for t-two now,” she replied.Text © owned by NôvelDrama.Org.
