Chapter 37 Trick of Forging Evidence
In Halley’s hand was a screenshot of the surveillance video in the hotel’s corridor. The woman and the man hugged each other on the black-and-white screen, revealing half of her face. It was Amanda.
Amanda’s expression changed.
How could this be possible?
She and Iverson had only gotten together when they were drunk that night. “Where did Halley get the surveillance camera footage from the hotel corridor?”
Halley’s face darkened. “Do you dare to say that the person inside is not you? Do you believe I will play the surveillance video of you getting a room with a man in public?”
“How dare you!” Despite his shock, Patrick still tried to protect Amanda.
“Mr. Dolley, this is your pure and pitiful campus belle, Amanda. Look, what has she done? You’re just one of the men she hooked up with. Don’t you know that?”
Patrick’s face paled as he looked at the photograph in Halley’s hand.
Just as Halley was pleased with himself, Amanda noticed a loophole in this photo.
That night, she and Iverson were not wearing these clothes at all.
Amanda calmed down and asked, “Patrick, what’s the crime of forging evidence in court?”
Patrick was taken aback. When he saw Amanda’s calm demeanor, he immediately realized the photo was fake. He shouted at Halley, “The lightest punishment will be fine, and the worst punishment will be imprisonment. The ones involved in the criminal case will be either arrested or put in jail.”
Halley turned pale. “It’s useless even if you don’t admit it. The evidence is conclusive.”
“If it’s really me, why didn’t you take the video? Why did you use this vague screenshot?”
“I’m giving you face.”
“No need; I really don’t want this face.”
Amanda glanced at the mediator. “Lori, as you can see, the conflict between us can’t be resolved today. Have we finished the procedure?”
The mediator was helpless with a commonplace appearance, “Then I’ll have to trouble the two of you to sign here.”
Amanda took the pen and signed her name.
Halley could only sign it.
After the mediation failed, they just needed to stay home and wait for the court to call.
“Amanda, you’ll regret this!”
Halley left behind a vicious threat and left in a huff.
Patrick tried to comfort her. “You must be scared, aren’t you? How dare a scumbag like Halley to fabricate false evidence to ruin your reputation? I won’t let him get away with it. We can raise this matter in court. Lori was there just now, so he can testify for you.”
“There’s no need,” Amanda said in a low voice. “Don’t mention it again.”
Even though that photo was a fake, she still felt lingering fears. After all, it was a confirmed fact.
Patrick paused. He didn’t understand the situation at first. Still, he didn’t press the issue because he thought that Amanda was afraid too trouble.
“Let’s have dinner together tonight to help you calm down.”
“Next time, I’ll treat Joleen to dinner tonight.”
With that, Amanda walked toward the roadside.
Patrick stood where he was, and his brows furrowed tighter and tighter.
The veil of night descended.
Various online restaurants and bars were bustling in the new business district outside the Fifth Ring Road of Ducco. The bustling A-list city was all-inclusive. Even if it was far from the city center, it still had everything.
Amanda and Joleen were sitting cross-legged on tatami in a high-class Japanese restaurant that offered 1, 000 dollars per person.
The waiter in a kimono sent sashimi to the door, and someone at the door came in. After putting them in place, he bowed, pulled the door open again, knelt down, and waited at the door.
This place was chosen by Joleen.
“Don’t you like Japanese food? The sea urchins in this restaurant are very fresh. Have a try.”
“Okay.” Amanda picked up the spoon with a smile and took a bite. It was indeed fresh and melted in her mouth. “It does taste good. Joleen, why don’t you eat it?”
Joleen sipped her tea and covered her mouth as she explained, “My stomach hasn’t been too good recently, so I can’t eat anything cold.”
“Then why did you choose this place? Why do you just take care of me? It’s not too late for us to leave now. Let’s go to another place.”
Joleen stopped her. “I just happened to lose weight; you should eat more.”
“You want to lose weight? You’re skinny,” Amanda said as she looked at Joleen worriedly. “I heard Patrick say that you ran into some trouble recently. Last time, you left in a hurry, and I didn’t ask you.”
Joleen’s expression paused for a moment, then barely twitched the corner of her mouth, “Luckily, it’s nothing major. It’s already been resolved.”
“It’s already been resolved? Really?”
“Of course, it’s true. Are you alright?”
Joleen was as considerate and gentle as ever. She didn’t forget to pour tea for Amanda as they chatted. “If I hadn’t heard from my friend on a business trip, I wouldn’t have known that you were divorcing Halley. Why didn’t you tell me?”
“It’s not an honorable thing. And the divorce came too soon. I didn’t mean to hide it from you.”
“How about you now? Where do you live?”
“I’ll stay in a hotel for the time being.”
Joleen frowned slightly, “Why are you staying at a hotel? You can stay at my place.”
“No, you live too far away. The hotel is convenient, and I am also looking for a house.”
“Alright, I travel a lot. I don’t spend much time at home, and there’s nothing at home, so it really isn’t as convenient as staying at a hotel,” said Joleen. She continued, “But it’ll be better in the future. I’m about to be promoted soon, so I don’t have to go on business trips often.”
“Really?”
Amanda s eyes lit up, and she was genuinely happy for Joleen. “Congratulations. I knew you were capable and would surely be appreciated.”
“What’s the use of capable? I’m still alone.”
“Don’t worry. Fate can’t be forced.”This is from NôvelDrama.Org.
Joleen forced a smile. “Actually, I rather envy you.”
“Envy me?” Amanda’s rolled her eyes. “You don’t have a fever, do you? Do you envy that I’ve been cuckolded, lost my marriage and job, and still have sued things?”
“It’s not that. I think you and Halley were in love; it’s hard to get.”
Amanda was surprised and hesitated. “Joleen, let me ask you something.”
“What is it?”
“What’s going on between you and Patrick?”
