Chapter 994
Side Story 3: Paul VS Daryl (2)
The next class was set on Sunday. Daryl didn't get up until midday, and Paul just stayed on the bed with her, touching her belly from time to time. The behavior, which was the normal way to express love for other couples, just appeared quite weird to Daryl, for she believed Paul was actually checking when he could finally get rid of the kid.All text © NôvelD(r)a'ma.Org.
She gave a quiver involuntarily at that thought.
Are you cold?" asked Paul.
Not really." Daryl curled up into a ball.
Shall I bring you some water to make you more comfortable?" Paul advised.
You can make me more comfortable by displeasing me as less as possible." snapped Daryl.
Daryl asked the driver to send her to the class as usual, forgetting it was Sunday and the driver didn't work at weekends. The driver replied he would be along a bit late as he had to prepare the birthday party for his kid. He was willing to help Daryl just taking her as a friend rather than an employer.
Daryl felt so sorry about her carelessness. She hurried to transfer some money to him for the gift to his kid, reassuring him she would manage it herself.
She could just get a taxi for such a short distance.
Hearing their conversation, Paul offered, "I can be your driver today."
'You don't need to be." Daryl turned him down.
'I'll have to, because I'm afraid you'll run away with other men. Paul joked.
Daryl said to herself, "Even if I do want to run away, such a huge belly will only make me out of breath even when I'm only walking fast, not to mention running.'
At that moment, Paul just felt he actually didn't dislike the prospect of having a child that much.
In the end, Daryl eventually got into Paul's car. Both his cars were luxurious ones and she was so nervous about the possibility of running into any of her classmates on the way. Hardly had their car reached the gate of building, she asked Paul to draw up. She got off as swiftly as possible before she urged him to leave quickly.
Paul regarded her gloomily, guessing the reason for her strange behavior.
Either because she was really dating some man behind him, or just because she was fed up with him now, he figured.
Paul thus unfastened the safety belt and got off too.
What are you doing?" Daryl asked with wide eyes.
Paul answered slowly, "Just to have a check."
A couple went past at that instant, who were scowling at each other as though about to divorce. Daryl tried to return to the car but was stopped by Paul as he grasped her by the collar. Their action successfully attracted the attention of that couple.
The wife was none other than the woman who considered Daryl to be a mistress and had insinuated her in the class the other day.
As that woman caught sight of Paul, she was immediately stupefied by his handsome face. And her husband's face just darkened instantly, making Daryl very awkward.
That husband seemed to be in such a filthy temper that Daryl swore she would let Paul regret if he dared to show such a scowl to her.
Daryl...you and your...?" When that woman finally took her eyes off Paul, she discovered Daryl, who was trying to get away,.
Daryl could only greet her embarrassedly.
Oh mine! Is this your husband?" The woman exclaimed incredulously, "Is he a film star or professional model?"
No, he doesn't work in that industry." answered Daryl. Clearing her throat, she then hurried to urge Paul, "Go home quickly. I'll ring you up when the class is over."
Go home? Why? Isn't the class today for both the parents-to-be?" The woman deliberately mentioned that when she sensed Daryl didn't want this handsome man to be seen. She thus unleashed her imagination in a malicious way since she just needed to vent her anger at her husband who got a pretty and young mistress during his wife's pregnancy. That woman quickly crossed out the possibility that Paul was the one to keep Daryl as his mistress. Mistresses wouldn't treat their "hosts" so rudely.
But that handsome chap was holding Daryl's waist so intimately. They must be in a relationship.
So Daryl was either having two boyfriends, or keeping her own lover when she herself was a mistress of someone.
As this envious couple came to such a conclusion, they started to glare at Daryl as though they had unearthed some ugly truth. That already getting Daryl annoyed, Paul just got her even more irritable by asking "A class for both parents-to-be? Why didn't you let me know?"
It was so difficult for Daryl to explain now. Not an important course anyway.
No calls to get you all the way here for that."
Yet her classmate added deliberately with a dry amusement, "But the coach said this course could improve the relationship between the couple, and help socializing."
Socializing was not Paul's thing, but he was obviously very fond of the other function of the course. "I shall attend the class, said he.
Or you just wait for me in the car?" Daryl suggested.
Paul's stubborn gaze fixed on Daryl, implying her that it was impossible to change his mind.
Daryl could only sigh with resignation, "Okay.
That today, trainees came earlier
than before, and some of them were
already "socializing" before the class
began. A normal class about
parenting as it was, some of the students and their mates seemed to take it as a cocktail party, clad in formal suits or beautiful dresses, or even preening their hair. Daryl and Paul just appeared so inéongruous in the classroom as they only wore casual sportswear, one acting languorously and the other engrossed in how to hide her husband somewhere.
A sudden silence fell as Daryl and Paul entered the room.
Daryl's appearance was already quite outstanding despite the pregnancy, and Paul just got every woman present drooling over his handsome face as though totally forgetting the social etiquette of their class.
And that of course displeased their mates.
Paul frowned lightly. "So many people here! He had never been a fan of the crowd. "Why don't you get a one-to-one training?
That would be a waste of money." replied Daryl. "Isn't it nice to meet up with different people from time to time?"
There was then something flickering in Daryl's eyes as an idea occurred to her.
But you can still go back now, since you dislike the crowd so much."
Paul stood in front of her in a natural way, blocking the impolite gaze at her. "No, I won't." said he firmly.
This couple seemed to be an exception amongst the crowd where everyone was trying to chum up with one another. Daryl was avoiding every possible chance to let out her identity while Paul didn't bother to talk to anyone at all.
Their behavior just reinforced the misconception that Paul was Daryl's gigolo, thanks to the implication given by the couple near them.
Daryl was still ignorant about their speculation so far. She was even more puzzled when several women, who didn't bring their husbands
along, approached covertly and
Can
whispered to her while casting admiring look at Paul, "Where did
you get such a nice service? I hope they won't charge too much."
Other women were holding various
l
attitudes towards Daryl. Some despised her at the "unabashed courage of showing her lover in public" while others were noncommittal as they still needed more information to make the judgment. Yet the final result was the crowd just alienated Daryl and Paul, which actually made this couple very content.
Paul only played with Daryl's hair, showing no interest in the opinion of others. He didn't even bother to respond when there was occasional greeting
to him.
This couple just enjoyed their own moments at the corner, totally forgotten by the class.
Daryl thought she would have to choose a new course after today.
At that moment, she overheard some familiar words from the conversation nearby. As she listened carefully, she found out the subject they were envying was a classmate who was going to arrive soon with her husband--a high-ranking executive in Paul's company.
Daryl's heart did a flip.
Although Paul seldom let his picture spread in public, those high-ranking executives must have seen him.
Daryl hastened to leave the classroom, grabbing Paul by the arm. Yet they just ran into a couple at the door, the wife leading her husband complacently and the husband holding the wife gingerly.
Several people hurried to go up, exchanging polite pleasantries with them.
Daryl was about to take the leave with Paul successfully when the woman they'd met downstairs stopped them.
Where are you going, Daryl? The class is to begin soon." That woman raised her voice deliberately.
A suddenly silence fell.
That "high-ranking executive', who had been receiving people's greeting with dignity, was now gawking at Daryl and Paul. His nervous remark then
got the whole class to act likewise.
