Chapter 368 Fighting Back

Early afternoon on the next day, in the fitness room of a private club

"Hiram, I have investigated the matter. Several of the bodies found in the scene had been blown into

pieces during the explosion and couldn't be identified. Patrick Yan's father found on a body's arm a

watch, which was exactly the same one as Patrick was wearing before. Therefore, he thought the body

was Patrick and took it back.

However, we still can't confirm whether the body is Patrick or not,"

Chad said to Hiram, who was working out on the treadmill.

Slowing down, Hiram thought for a while before answering,"Unable to confirm means that he might still

Therefore, it means that he might have known something about the accident beforehand.

He couldn't have made it out alive, unless he had had an escape plan."

"Hiram, do you mean that Patrick might have known all of this in advance and therefore had decided to

play along, so that everybody would think that he died in the explosion?! Chad said, trying to catch up

with the speed of Hiram's vigorous thinking.

"Well, it looks like we can't rule out this possibility."

Hiram said, as he stopped the treadmill and wiped the sweat off his forehead.

"But, Hiram, what could possibly be his purpose in doing this? Lots of men, whom he relied on to build

his business empire during the past three years, were killed in that explosion. Even though he might

have survived that explosion, whom could he depend on, if he is to revenge on Marcia afterwards?"

Chad asked with a look full of doubt.

There were so many questions in this accident. Since it was impossible that Patrick would come to

Marcia for revenge with bare hands, he must have had someone powerful supporting him secretly.

Definitely, this one couldn't have been any member of Mo Family. Who could this mysterious person be

then?

"Relax! What will be, will be. Besides, send more guys to follow and protect Rachel, and report

immediately to me about anything abnormal," Hiram said, as he grabbed a bottle of water, when a

sudden thought struck him like a lightning.

How was it possible that he hadn't thought of it sooner?! Patrick was very likely to come to Rachel, if he

had survived that explosion.

"Okay, I know," Chad nodded reassuringly to Hiram and got ready to leave. When Chad opened the

door, Luke was heading to Hiram's office with the speed of light. The two men greeted each

other,"Good day to you, Mr. Jian."

"Good day. Where is Hiram?" Luke replied, holding a folder in his hands, as though it was a secret

treasure he had just found out.

"He is inside, waiting for you. Please, go in!" Chad responded to Luke with a smile.

After Luke entered the office, he found out that Hiram was resting on a chair beside the office desk.

Then, he went straight to the desk, put the folder on top of it and then said,"Hiram, I have already been

familiar with all the details on the case. In addition I have also submitted materials for bail application.

Fannie is expected to be released by the day after tomorrow at the latest."

Hiram grabbed an unopened bottle of water and tossed it towards Luke, before saying

approvingly,"Thanks for all your hard work. I want her to be cleared of all the charges and be released

as soon as possible. Can that be done?"

"Um, actually, it is possible. Since it has been a long time, the material evidences and the statements of

the witness may not exactly be convictive, so there is still a chance. As to the witness, I am afraid we

can't approach her, given the fact that your father has been protecting her so well. But I have a plan for

the material evidences,"

Luke said, as he drew out a picture from the folder and put it in front of Hiram. "Look at that! They say

that this kid is Landy's. Here is the report of the maternity test. But I'm certain that we can do the test

again, without any other intermediaries involved," Luke assured him.

"I have talked to Fannie before. She shared that she did feel guilty for having several conflicts with

Landy, when they were both in love with Simpson before. However, Fannie never believed that Landy

had a child of her own. Therefore, if we are to trust Fannie, it will be very necessary for us to do the

maternity test again," Luke clarified.

With glints of doubt in his eyes, Hiram thought for a while, before saying,"We can do the test again,

but...

... if the hospital is faking the test result, will it be possible for us to find out the truth? Since they

replaced the true result with the fake one, there must be evidences. If we really want to reveal that the

previous result was wrong, we need to get the proofs," Hiram added.

Luke nodded his head and replied,"Yes, you're right. Only with a well-founded argumentation can we

be admitted to apply for retesting. Of course, it's better if we can provide evidences. Then, our odds to

win the case will become much bigger."

"Wait a second!" Hiram exclaimed, suddenly thinking of something. Then, he stood up, grabbed the

briefcase hanging on the wall behind him and fumbled out an audio tape from it.

"Listen to this tape and extract all the useful information from it," Hiram demanded, while handing the

tape to Luke.

This audio tape contained a record of what Lydia had said that night when she got drunk. However,

right now wasn't the best time to use it against her.

For Hiram, the most important thing was to get Fannie out fast.

As gentle as she was, Rachel wouldn't be able to receive any more bad news.

"Okay! Hiram, I can get Fannie out, but are you sure that you are willing to go against your father?"

Luke asked, as he put the tape away. Of course, this really mattered too.

Besides from being Hiram's father, Gavin was also the chairman of the board in Streams Company.

Winning this case would mean that their father-son relationship would definitely turn sour.

"My family matters are not your concern. Everything will be fine, as long as Fannie is out," Hiram

hissed in a low voice.

"Okay, you can count on me. Since Fannie is injured, I think I can make full use of this fact and get her

released quickly. Then, we will have the time to investigate into this case more thoroughly," Luke said,

as he stood up, grabbed the folder and walked towards the door.

However, after taking a few steps, he turned around to Hiram and said,"Hiram, H city is not safe

recently. It seems that someone unknown is doing dirty things. My law office has received several

special cases related to it. Just be careful."

"Em," Hiram responded,"I am aware of it. Also, Kun has been investigating into it."

After Luke left, Hiram picked up his phone to check Rachel's location. Then, he put down the bottle of

water, randomly grabbed a piece of clothes and walked out of the fitness room.

In the police station

After coming out of the visiting room of the police station, Rachel felt relieved. Fannie looked fine and

the injuries on her body had already been attended by a doctor.

However, Rachel's phone beeped just when she had gone out of the building. Seeing it was a call from

an unknown number, Rachel picked up and said,"Hello!... Who is it?"

"Rachel, this is Charlie. Do you have an answer to our proposal?" Charlie asked.

Silent for a while, Rachel took a deep breath, as if to gather all the strength she had, and then

shouted,"Charlie, tell Gavin that if he hopes to see his grandchildren ever again, he would better not

take this insanity to an extreme. Otherwise, I'll revenge on him at any cost."

After finishing her words, Rachel hung up the phone, still feeling very angry.

darling?"

"I just finished my fitness workout and now I want to take you to a special place. Are you free this

afternoon?" Hiram asked, as he glanced at Rachel and started the car's navigation system.

"Yes, I am free. Since the bidding is over now, I have taken two days off." Rachel said sweetly, taking

out a carton of milk and a sack of bread from the car's refrigerator. Then, she checked the expiration

date of both the milk and the bread and asked,"Did you just buy them?"

"Yes, I bought them on my way here," Hiram answered with a gentle smile. He knew that Rachel liked

snacks, but the normal ones were not healthy. Therefore, he bought milk and bread for his love.

Rachel opened the packaging of the straw, inserted it into the carton and started to drink milk and eat

bread. Just as she was deliciously enjoying her food, she noticed that the navigation system was on

and then asked,"Where are we going?"
