Chapter 430
Chapter 430
After standing in the hospital as a punishment during the day, Mia found herself in the hospital that very
same night. She didn’t tell her parents about Molly’s hospitalization.
Mia was propped up in her hospital bed when the doctor pressed on Mia’s legs, asking, “What did you
do today?”
Mia pursed her lips. “I overexerted myself, stood for too long.”
In Molly’s ward, Grandma Aubree of the Byrne family couldn’t sleep. She loved to wander around.
The hospital was dim except for the emergency department. The elderly like Aubree were always
attracted to where the light and people were. Recognizing Mia, Grandma Aubree, dressed in a floral
gown and black lounge pants, asked, “Mia, what brings you to the hospital?”
Mia tensed up, glancing at her parents and then back at Grandma Aubree. “Grandma Aubree, I’m okay,
just a bit of swelling in my legs.”
The doctor, having already examined Mia, turned to Madison and said, “During late pregnancy, the
fetus grows rapidly. While exercise is important, long periods of standing and sitting should be avoided.
If you stand for too long, you may experience lower limb edema. This is her first time, so massaging
her lower limbs at home will help. Make sure she gets plenty of rest, maintains a good sleep routine,
and exercises moderately.”
Worried, Madison agreed, “Doctor, I’m not sure how to massage her legs. Could you show me?”
The doctor demonstrated on Mia’s leg, and Madison took note.
Grandma Aubree, who had been listening in, rushed back to share the news with Molly. With phone in
hand, Molly was still awake.
“Molly, I just saw Mia at the hospital,” Grandma Aubree shared.
“What? Why is she at the hospital?”
Armed with fresh information, Grandma Aubree told her granddaughter, “You know how Andre made
Mia stand for a long time this afternoon? Just now, her legs were swollen. I heard it myself. That
woman must be her mother. She is in her pajamas, learning how to massage from the doctor.”
Upon hearing this, Molly knew that Mia had gone to her parents’ house instead of the Cedillo family’s.
Always siding with Andre, she immediately sat up in bed and called him.
In his bedroom, Andre felt uneasy without his girl Mia by his side. He couldn’t concentrate on his book.
Closing the book and preparing to sleep, he found himself reaching for Mia. He tried to regulate his
breathing and sleep. However, the echoes of Mia’s cries from earlier in the day filled his mind. Opening
his eyes, Andre got out of bed and headed to his study. Just then, his phone rang.
“Hello, Molly?”
“Andre, Mia’s in the hospital.”
...
The Irvin family’s car had barely left when Andre’s car pulled up. He got out and headed to the
emergency department, going from bed to bed, searching for his wife.
Upon seeing him, the doctor asked, “Sir, who are you looking for?”
Andre asked, “There was a pregnant woman here earlier. Where is she?”
“She’s gone. What’s your relationship to her?”
“Her husband.” Andre introduced himself to the doctor, “I’m Andre. The pregnant woman named Mia is
my wife. What happened to her?”
“Her lower limbs were swollen. We have taught her family how to massage it. Doing so at home should
help alleviate the swelling,” the doctor relayed his diagnosis.
Frowning, Andre asked, “What caused the sudden swelling?”
“According to the pregnant woman, she was standing for a long time due to exerting herself in the
afternoon. In the mid-pregnancy stage, edema is common. She had minor swelling in the afternoon but
didn’t pay it much attention until it suddenly swelled up and became uncomfortable in the evening,” the
doctor explained.
Hearing the reason, Andre felt a pang of guilt. The punishment he’d given her in the day had ended up
hurting her. He clenched his car keys, thanked the doctor, and left the hospital.
In his car, Andre leaned back in his seat, exhausted. He couldn’t argue with her, couldn’t scold her.
Even a minor punishment ended up scaring him half to death at night. If something really happened to
his wife and child, he would never forgive himself. Mia and their unborn child were his life.
Late into the night, he drove to the Irvin family’s neighborhood. All the neighboring houses were dark

Andre sat in his car, watching the light in Mia’s room until it went out.
Late into the night, Chad was still busy. When he had a moment, he messaged his mom, “Is Molly
asleep?”
Coleen sent him a video of Molly sleeping soundly in her hospital bed. “She’s asleep.”
Seeing the IV drop in his sister’s hand and how peacefully she was sleeping, Chad felt a wave of calm
wash over him. He texted his mom back, “Mom, you should get some sleep too.”
Coleen just hummed in response, but after putting down her phone, she clutched her chest, feeling a
bit uneasy.
...
The next day, Andre still didn’t contact Mia. The Irvin couple found out why their daughter had returned
home crying the day before.
Aaron said, “I need to find out why my daughter was crying so hard yesterday.”
Madison said, “Don’t meddle in our children’s affairs. Mia will tell us when she needs us.”
The parents felt nervous for their daughter but because she didn’t want to talk about it, they didn’t ask.
During the day, Aaron went to work while Madison and the maid stayed home with Mia. Molly called to
check in, “Has Andre come to see you?”
“Have your test results come out?” Mia dodged the question, indirectly giving Molly her answer.
Molly looked puzzled. She thought, “Wait a minute. Andre didn’t visit Mia at the hospital last night?”

Mia replied, “You should take care of yourself too. Hospitals are full of all kinds of people. Be wary of
strangers.”
“I will.”
After hanging up, Molly immediately dialed Leo’s number. “Hey Leo, we’re in deep trouble this time.”
Leo, hidden away in a hotel, replied, “Damn it. Molly, don’t scare me like that. Spill it, what happened?”
