Chapter forty three

Elena

It didn’t take quite long for me to figure out that Gulliver was a mage, with all the spell casting and his rather impeccable affinity for magic, it did baffle me that he was this close with Dracul seeing that it was the rise of his species that brought about the downfall of his.

There was no time to pry though, things were heating up and fast, Gulliver’s wards were strong around his house, obscuring and dematerializing it from intruders but everyday they inched closer, looked in a little deeper and I wondered just how long we had until we became unsafe.

And then there was him, popping up out of the blue with mentions of ‘The Witch’, I shouldn’t have been skeptical, every information was crucial in possibly preserving Dracul’s life and yet I couldn’t help but distrust his loyalties, these were trying times and I was determined not to fuck up again.

Whatever Gulliver had done for Dracul, it worked tremendously well, he was on his feet in a week and building up a strong resistance again Dragonsbane.

“Sire.” Tanner says, during dinner. “What are your plans for returning back home?, Forgive me if I’m in haste but it’s been over two weeks since anyone’s heard of you, the people may-”

“He’s not ready.” I deadpan, cutting him off, I hated the fact that we needed to even have this sort of conversation

“My lady forgive me.” Tanner says returning quietly to his meal.

I shudder in distaste and abruptly rise, leaving without so much as a word, I hear footsteps trail up behind me and I only assume it to be Dracul, it’s a bit weird that he’s following me, despite the fact that we have barely spoken to each other in the past few days.

“Elena.” He calls after me. “Elena wait!”

I walk faster, on the brink of a run even, but he seems to approach even faster, my rooms looms in sight and I reach it but he bursts in before I’m able to shut the door completely.

“What?!” I say to him heaving. “Why won’t you just leave me alone? It’s been ok for you all this while.”

“Don’t ever run from me.” He says with a calmness that pricks me. “You’re mine Elena, you don’t get to run from me!'”

I look away, my eyes burdened with unshed tears, his arms grasp at my sides

“Look at me!” He commands, drawing my gaze back in. “You are mine Elena!”

“You sent me away!” I tell him. “You don’t get to own me anymore!”

“You’re mine.” He repeats with so much certainty dripping in his voice. “Just as much as I’m yours.”

His head dips down and in that moment he’s kissing me, it’s hot, it fast and it’s totally needed, I lean in further to him, relishing it, not knowing just how much I have missed the taste of him.

He breaks away from my mouth, trailing hot kisses down my neck as his his fingers deftly and expertly peels off my clothes.

“Don’t.” He says to me. “Don’t evade, don’t run, don’t hide, tell me what goes on in your mind.”

“I know it’s false, but I feel safe.” I tell him. “Going back makes it all too real, I don’t think I’m ready to lose you Dracul!”

“You won’t!” He promises. “No matter what, Elena, I’m coming for you always.”

Those words alone seemed to take all the stress away, I almost feel relaxed, maybe this-

A heavy knock shakes the small frame of the room, disrupting my thoughts.

“If you two are done soiling my home..” Gulliver calls from the other end. “.. there’s something you need to see.”

I blush profuse and he looks at me.

“I could tell. him to go.” He tells me. “We could spend the night if you wish.”

“I’d rather do so at home, with you.” I respond. “Let’s go take our kingdom back.”

There’s a smile on his face and body that vaguely reassures me we are going to be fine.

I know of their moves, the wind betrays their plans and I can’t help but laugh as I take two steps further in this game.

“Bring him in.” I tell the guard.

He bows and proceeds to do my bidding, one of the benefits of having this much power.

It takes awhile, but their clicking footsteps finally return, a haggard frail looking man stands beside him, his eyes telling a story of how mighty he was once.

“My lady.” The guard says bowing down ever so reverently before proceeding to leave.

“King of the east!” I call him by his title. “Lord of the rising sun and everything it touches, you’re welcome to my abode.”

“And what do they call you.” He asks disbelief still evident in his voice.

“I am called many things.” I tell him. “A benevolent god to my friends and a vicious devil to my enemies but you, you may address me as the Queen of the north.”

The wind howls in reverence and for flair I cause several columns to topple down around us and promptly reassign them back, his eyes widen, he’d always been a fan of realism and he falls into a bow.

“My lady.” he begins.

“Your grace.” I correct. “My territory remember.”

“Your grace.” He says choking on his pride. “I have searched for months and finally I find one like you who wields the power to help me with my–”

“I know why you’re here.” I say to him. “Are you willing to pay the price?”

“Yes.” He says. “Anything for my daughter, anything for my Elena.”

I can’t help but smile, another pawn recruited to the cause and with such minimal effort too, what a shame that two would be lost soon, but I was still in control anyhow the pieces were all mine to move. Watch out dragon king I’m coming for all that you and all that you love.
