Chapter 20 The day they were a couple
She wakes up in his arms, snuggled in closer to his tattooed chest, and taking in his scent like she desperately needed him.
“I want you, will you take me away?” her voice was throaty and he was wrapping her closer and carefully rubbed her back.
“Anything for you, Kiska. Do you want to go to the vineyard?”
It was one of those days.
Sometimes when she failed a bust, she felt so drained. And without her drug, Yegor was it and she was going to take advantage of his attendance.Upstodatee from Novel(D)ra/m/a.O(r)g
“I don’t care, just take me and Gus away. I think he misses Darko too. I’m taking my leave of absence, you’re going to be my drug.” She said softly and he can feel her tears on his chest.
He cursed on the inside, he didn’t realize how frustrated she had been with her work. That time he can imagine why she was taking the drugs.
“Hey,” he took her beautiful face and wiped her tears away.
“I’m so sorry, baby.” He kissed her and caressed her back trying to soothe her.
“You guys get all the win, sometimes I just think I should just quit my job.”
“Quit then, you can stay with me. Stay in bed all day, we can travel the world.”
She let out a little laugh.
“Until you’re bored with me. Then I’ll regret all of my decisions…”
“Karla, I love you.”
His words pinch her, it wasn’t the first time he had to insinuate his feelings. But when he left the country to go into hiding, she was put back in her place.
“No, you’re not. This will all fade Yegor. One day you’ll get bored with me and marry that woman you’re supposed to be with.”
“Why are you doing this to yourself?”
“Because I’m right. I’m doomed from the start. Don’t worry, I’m used to this. Just let me dream a little bit longer.”
“Karla I’m sorry about your previous marriage.” He kissed her temple and hold her close.
“Don’t, do not go there.”
She hated the fact that he found out about that part of her life. He was living on the run for more than a year, he was out of the country and she was missing him until she thought she had met her future happiness.
He was supposed to be her right choice.
Karla was married for one year, one miserable year. The one year she had endured and lived for the longest time, she had loved her husband thinking he would too.
But she was like any other abused wife in broken marriages, she had gone to work in turtlenecks and long sleeves. She was married to one of her co-workers and felt so ashamed that she had kept the fact hidden until one day she was found badly battered and bruised by the side of the road where Luka had found her.
“If I didn’t leave…”
“Luka was there for me, I was not alone.”
The mentioning of his stepbrother’s name made his blood boil. And the deed was returned, when he decided to get him back for Karla. He tempted his woman, Olga, years later when he was branching out to Luka’s area. He had hated his little brother for being there for Karla when he was not able to.
Though he should be thankful that Luka was there for his feisty agent but the jealousy runs deep, and he actually felt compassion for Olga. Strong enough that he was getting close to her, too close for Luka’s liking.
But after sometimes he realized that Olga loves his brother more and his heart couldn’t let go of Karla. No matter how hard he tried to convince himself that she was better off without him.
“I hated that I was not there for you.”
“I always survive. It’s my curse.”
“Kiska,”
The drug lord hated the fact that she always thinks less of herself. But that day he managed to get her out of her apartment. Darko took Gus to his usual cozy corner in his luxurious mansion, while he took her for an afternoon dip in his pool.
“Maybe I should just admit defeat and be your mistress.” She giggled in his arms when they were having their private moments and he was kissing her in the pool.
“I think you should quit your job, I’ve been telling you this for years. Let me take care of you.”
He didn’t want to touch the subject of marriage, he wanted her to stay by his side forever.
The marriage aspect was off-limits knowing he has a very complicated outstanding issue with his dad’s agreement made decades ago with Zasha’s family The Kuznetsova.
“Maybe I will.” She snaked her naked arms to his naked tattooed shoulder.
He was feasting his eyes on her bikini-clad body and she was liking her view of his tanned tattooed half-naked body as they were both cozying up in each other’s arms under the warm afternoon breeze.
Her little escape continues when they arrived at his vineyard just before midnight, and she was taken to a personal tour of his winery. They laughed and talk about anything but their job.
Margot, the house caretaker who used to be Yegor’s nanny greeted her the morning after with their breakfast.
“I’m so glad that you’re back.” Her voice was joyful and Karla was feeling right at home with her.
And that’s when she gave the older woman a warm hug.
“He’s still sleeping, I think he’s dead tired from his work.”
Karla knows for sure that he was facing his issues, she has been keeping tabs on him. Though she was busy with the Albanians, she knows exactly that he was confronted with his problems. She knows that he was facing the heat with The Kuznetsova, she had heard chatter about Zasha’s dad who went mad and killed off a couple of his men.
She knows that she needs to be careful, but somehow the dangerous issue didn’t bother her the least. After her failed marriage, fail career, she was looking at her miserable life. Yegor was the only one who has been keeping her spirit up, the little banter and tease have been putting a smile on her face these past couple of years.
“You’re rubbing off on him.” Margot took her mind back to reality.
“Yeah? how so?” Karla asked smiling at the woman, she was drinking her morning coffee when she told her that the Darko and the guys have been telling her that their boss no longer has mistresses and that they have their job cut out since they don’t have to take care of the women.
Karla laughed at her words, while secretly feeling happy on the inside. It was silly, she knows she was setting herself for another fall. And she knows with Yegor that fall would be the abyss. Years of tracking him, getting to know him, his habits, his way of thinking she was in love with him in her way.
She cherishes him in her sweet sickening way.
“Maybe he’s just getting old. Couldn’t take the heat of many women, or maybe I’m the only one left that can handle his madness.”
“You’re always so humble, he can’t take his eyes off of you. I can see the way he treated you, I hope both of you realize this sooner.”
“Margot…” she took her hand silently telling her that she appreciates her thoughts.
For the rest of that day, she forgets about her job, her sad pathetic career and indulges in their passionate lovemaking, and stays in the cocoon of his laid-back billionaire mob lifestyle.
