The Alpha’s Surrogate Mate

Chapter 9: Suspiciously

The next day, Bonnie felt weak and motionless. She stayed in bed for some couple of hours, unable to decipher where her mind was.

The event of the previous night clouded her mind that she barely forgot her name.

Was she Gwen or was she Bonnie?

Or was she the puppet that the Alpha wanted to get rid of at all cost?

There was no debating the latter because she knew why she existed. The main reason why Xavier had kept her alive was because of Gwen.

Bonnie struggled out of bed and stared out into nothingness. Everything felt so empty and painful.

Nothing hurts more than waking up the next day and reminding yourself that you could die at any time.

Walking on knives and shedding out blood that would one day kill you.

The door opened slightly and Elixir stepped in. She beheld Bonnie for a while, a sigh escaped her before she moved to her.

She sat beside her and held her hands in hers, “Bonnie.”

Bonnie sighed again before she turned to look at Elixir.

A gasp escaped Elixir as she stared, ” What happened to your face. Why do you look like this?”

Bonnie stared, expressionless.

Elixir’s hand flew to her mouth and she stared at her pretty face. She released her hand and smiled softly, “Remind me never to leave you like I did last night. You look as though you saw a ghost.”

Despite the situation, Bonnie laughed, ” I won’t.”

Elixir got up and moved to the wardrobe, “I will write it in my heart!” She retrieved two gowns, ” What are you wearing today? Pink or red?”

Bonnie sighed, ” Any difference?”

” Of course. This is red,” she raised the red dress higher, “While this is pink,” she gestured to the next dress.

” They all looked the same to me. And why is Gwen only wearing gowns?” Bonnie looked away tiredly.

” Because she loved it! She was always wearing dresses.” She pouted out.

Bonnie paused for a moment, her calculating mind jolted her out. She turned to look at Elixir, rubbing the tip of the red dress, “Did you just use past tense for her?”

Elixir whipped her head towards her, ” What?” She raised a brow, skeptical.

” You used past tense for Gwen. You are not supposed to because she’s not dead.”

Elixir sighed, ” You scared me. Well, I only used past tense because she’s no longer here.”

Bonnie squeezed her forehead, ” Please, don’t. I pray she doesn’t die. You should join me in prayer.”

Elixir smiled, ” Of course, Bonnie. I’m all after your happiness after all and I will do anything for you. Now, can we dress up? You need to meet your cousin.”

Bonnie yawned lazily, ” Gosh! This is so annoying,” she slipped out of her previous dress.

She looked over at Elixir making the water in the bathroom, “Have you arranged the other thing for me?”

Elixir glanced back, “What?”

Bonnie moved closer, ” Concerning my parents.”

Elixir smiled again, reassuringly, “Yes, I made provision. I will supply them with the food. Their meal won’t be meddled with, trust me.”

Bonnie smiled. Elixir stepped back and Bonnie entered the shower.

She looked up at Elixir, “I will repay you for all the good things you’ve done for me.”

Elixir made a sly smile before walking back to gather her undergarments.

When Bonnie walked out of the room, she looked fresh and new. All thanks to Elixir and her makeup.

Alpha Rowan was in the garden awaiting her. When she stepped in beside him, it felt as though Bonnie found solace all of a sudden.

There was something with Rowan that seemed to give her the peace she never really knew she had.

“You look very beautiful, as always,” he smiled charmingly.

Bonnie reciprocated it, “I’m sure your bride is the luckiest.”

Rowan laughed for a while, his sound similar and yet so different to Xavier.

The similarities can be vivid in their sounds and well, the difference was also palpably clear.

Whenever Rowan laughed, she felt peace. Whenever Xavier laughed, she felt a rush of adrenaline. She didn’t even know if it was because she feared him so much.

“Should I hint you of who it is?” Rowan whispered into her left ear, jerking her automatically out of her thoughts.

She stared, bewildered, “Do I know her?”

“Yes! You’ve met her countless times,” he sighed and stepped back, ” But you won’t remember now, right? Your memories aren’t back?”

Bonnie shook her head, ” Soon brother, I believe.”

Rowan turned away, his feature dark unsettling, “I must meet the man that did this to you! At this moment!”

Bonnie’s heart skipped a beat at the sudden outburst. She feared something bad might happen. She opened her mouth to stop him but he was already making his way toward the entrance.

Bonnie sighed again before she rushed after him. When she walked inside, Rowan was already speaking with Philip.

Philip’s gaze met Bonnie slightly as he explained the direction of the way to the dungeon to Rowan.

For a moment, it seemed like Philip knew who she was. Perhaps, he was telling her something.

Rowan looked back at Bonnie’s hesitating figure, “Come along cousin!”

Bonnie gulped in the air and forced her legs to walk.Property of Nô)(velDr(a)ma.Org.

Bonnie remembered she had it prepared. She had already spoken to her parents that they were coming that day to speak ill of them.

But it still felt strange and hurtful that Bonnie would be a partaker of it.

They walked through the passageway and stairs to the underground where her parents were held captive.

The moment she sights them from afar, the tears came falling out of her eyes and she couldn’t even stop it.

She closed her eyes in an instant, needing to suppress whatever emotions she was having at the moment.

Rowan held her by her arm suddenly, forcing Bonnie to look at him.

He smiled and pulled her into a bear hug.

Bonnie’s heart skipped a hundred times. Heat rushed to her face.

And somehow, it seemed like she wasn’t the only one having that feeling. Rowan seemed to feel somehow too.

Bonnie looked up at him and caught him staring. Their gaze held and locked.
