The Billionaire's Regret

Chapter 159

Chapter 159

Ivy was exhausted when she returned to Morgan Mansion. Despite receiving this large project, she couldn’t find it in herself to be happy. Perhaps it was because she wasn’t mentally prepared to hear such an old, tragic story. She lay in her bed in the middle of the night, ruminating on the contents of that photograph. Suddenly, a notification appeared on her phone. She picked it up irritably, glanced at it, and frowned. Wyatt had sent it. [Ivy, I’m glad you were the person I saved.] Ivy blinked; her gaze fixed on the darkness outside the window. She then went outside to get a glass of milk, which she slowly drank before returning upstairs. Because the past would never return, why should she linger on something she had already let go of? Ivy went to bed and had a restful night’s sleep as a result of that thought. After only one night, the news of the collaboration with Marco Seely went viral. Major corporations and businesses expressed their willingness to collaborate with Morgan Corporation. Even if they were only a minor part of the project, they would benefit. When Ivy opened her eyes, her phone nearly exploded from the volume of calls she was receiving. Fortunately, she had previously muted it. Simba strutted in with its tail wagging. “Everyone is waiting for you, Mama.” Ivy responded to Windy’s message and showered before heading downstairs. “Big Brother?” Cooper stood in the living room, stern and cold. Ivy had no idea who he was on the phone with, but when she came downstairs, he immediately hung up. “You have such a big heart!” Ivy was perplexed. Leo smiled leisurely as he sat at the dining table with the newspaper. Content © NôvelDrama.Org 2024.

“How did you contact Marco Seely? His people have already made contact with your brother. Isn’t it true that his attitude shifted too quickly?” Ivy exhaled a sigh of relief and told them what had happened the day before. Everyone had a look of realization on their face. Only Sebastian shook his head, regretfully saying, “Marco’s son is already so big. It appears that you are out of luck.” Leo fixed his gaze on Sebastian. “Go get lost!” Cooper spoke up. “Seconded.” After breakfast, Ivy laughed and followed Cooper to the office. When Ivy and Cooper entered the conference room for the early morning meeting, the previously noisy room fell silent. As she walked in her high heels, everyone’s attention was drawn to Ivy. She exuded confidence and power as she sat, not even batting an eyelid. The shareholders at the table were also wearing a variety of expressions. Icarus Lewis sat there anxiously; his face ashen. He looked up at Ivy and Cooper from time to time as if he was unsure what to say. He called Leo Morgan early in the morning but could not reach him. ‘Are they going to force me to leave Morgan Corporation?’ Icarus pondered with uneasiness. Cooper presided over the meeting at the outset. The major departments all gave brief updates on the current situation, and the final topic was Marco Seely’s project. Cooper’s voice was crisp and clear. “Our technical department must keep up with them, according to Marco Seely’s plan. The follow-up tasks are critical and must not be overlooked, but we will wait for the contract to adjust the details. Do you have any questions?” The people in the room shook their heads and fell silent gradually. Cooper turned his head just as everyone thought the meeting was over. “And how about you, Ivy?” Ivy, who had been summoned, gave a faint smile. Cooper’s meaning was clear to her, and she lifted her shapely brows to look at Icarus. Ivy couldn’t pass up this opportunity now that the ball was in her court.

“I’m curious if Mr. Lewis remembers that bet from before, where the loser will leave Morgan Corporation.” Ivy didn’t waste any time and got right to the point. Icarus, for example, made minimal contributions to the company. He wanted to ride on the shirttails of others and took a considerable risk, but he failed in the end. Keeping him would be ineffective and would also set a bad precedent for the company. Would Ivy still be as lucky as she was this time if everyone wanted to bet on her future in this way? There was no way Ivy would let Icarus and Zion Lewis off the hook so quickly. As he looked at Cooper, Icarus’ face was ugly and flustered. “It’s all for the sake of the company, President Cooper. This was a company project that Zion and I were working on. We’re more excited than anyone else that Ms. Ivy got the offer.” Cooper’s gaze was cold as he turned to face Icarus. “So, you don’t intend to leave?” The meeting room’s atmosphere became cold and stagnant as soon as those words were spoken. Everyone’s gaze pierced Icarus’s face like needles, piercing him with shame and embarrassment. Yes, Icarus did not want to leave in that manner. Cooper’s words, on the other hand, were ruthless. Icarus stuttered and finally looked at Cooper and Ivy, who did not appear interested in keeping him. He clenched his teeth. “What do you mean by leaving? Morgan Corporation is a company in which I have shares. Isn’t it true that I’ll need Chairman Morgan’s permission first?” Icarus’ eyes twinkled with a triumphant grin. Ivy smiled as she raised her brows. “Of course, you should.” In front of everyone, she took out her phone and dialed Leo. Icarus’s face stiffened slightly as his heart clenched. “Ivy, I’m going fishing for our lunch right now. Are you planning on coming home for lunch?” Leo spoke in a leisurely and brisk tone. On the other end, they could even hear the breeze. Ivy couldn’t help but laugh. “We’re in a meeting, Dad. We discussed how Icarus Lewis lost the bet, but a shareholder needs your permission to leave the company. We’d like to hear your thoughts.”

Her eyes lingered on Icarus, and the corners of her mouth raised in a slight arc. Icarus’ face tensed up all of a sudden. “Mr. Morgan...” Leo’s voice from the phone interrupted him before he could finish. “Ivy, since I’ve delegated the company’s management to you and Cooper, you can make these decisions independently. I will respect whatever decision you make. I’ll sign my name as soon as I strike the gavel!” As countless eyes focused on Icarus, the conference room fell silent. Those who wanted to plead for him were also wise enough to shut their mouths. Icarus’ skin had turned a grey shade of white. His lips started to tremble. Ivy burst out laughing. “All right, Dad. Let us handle the rest. Have a great time fishing!” After that, she hung up the phone. When it came to big decisions, Leo was never daft. He always stood in the same row as his children so that no one could sneak inside. Ivy raised her brows at Icarus and smiled indifferently. “In that case, Mr. Lewis, I’ll request that HR initiate the procedures, and all you have to do is follow their instructions. You can sell the modest shares you have in your possession to the company if you want. Otherwise, save them for retirement.” Ivy stood up and placed her hand on the table after speaking. “I still have work to do, so you keep going.” She cast a glance at Cooper. Ivy swayed out of the conference room as he nodded. As soon as she stepped outside, she received a call from Pierce, who was dying of boredom while waiting for Ivy in the lobby. Windy happened to be there as well. She was in a bad mood and wanted to ask Ivy to accompany her shopping. Windy was surprised to see a little blonde kid sitting on the ground drawing circles while holding a large bouquet of white chrysanthemums at the entrance to Morgan Corporation. Windy came to a halt in her path and frowned slightly. ‘Is there a memorial service going on at Morgan Corporation?’
