Chapter 168
Chapter 168
Back in Wyatt’s room, he was so enraged that he had lost all desire to sleep. He had intended to use this opportunity to bond with Ivy, but with Bill around, he was powerless! It was excruciatingly frustrating and suffocating. The night flew by. Ivy did not sleep well, but it was, fortunately, dawn when she opened her eyes again. The door was rapped. Ivy acknowledged it with a grunt, and Bill ceased knocking. She changed into a simple white silk blouse and black A-line skirt a short time later. She walked gracefully downstairs. The slightly sluggish look in her bright features softened her cold demeanor. Wyatt sat at the dining table early in the morning and instantly felt better upon seeing her. “Good morning, Ivy.” “Did you sleep well last night?” Ivy asked casually as she walked over, nodding in greeting. As he regarded Bill, Wyatt’s gaze appeared to be somewhat complicated and aggrieved. “Not entirely.” Bill twitched his lips. His vicious face grew even more ferocious. Ivy cast a glance his way. “Because your leg hasn’t recovered completely, it’s natural that you’re having trouble sleeping, so don’t worry about it.” Wyatt gasped. Rosie emerged from the kitchen and placed a bowl of oatmeal and a few other breakfast foods on the counter. “They are all your favorites, Ms. Ivy. Are you pleased with them?” She cast a nervous glance at Ivy. Ivy had just lifted the spoon and quickly replaced it. She ignored Rosie’s words and had an epiphany. “Oh, yes, I forgot to remind you yesterday to take your meds.” Wyatt twitched his lips. As he looked at her, his elegant brows were raised. “How are you going to make amends for your transgression?”
Ivy walked over to the medicine cabinet, took a handful of pills, and handed them to Wyatt. “There. This will compensate for yesterday’s portion.” Wyatt froze for a moment before quietly taking them over and gulping them down with water. Rosie was so taken aback by this that she was unable to speak. Ivy smiled as she picked up her bag. “I’m on my way to work. Bye.” “Why don’t you have a bite to eat before you leave?” Wyatt coaxed her patiently. Ivy motioned with her hand. “My brother brought me delectable home-cooked food.” As the driver remained in a coma, there had been no progress regarding the car accident. He was resurrected and clinging to life by the skin of his teeth. Ivy spent a half-day at the office and returned to Hudson Yards at noon after completing some tasks. She was feeling a little sleepy and retired to her room for a nap. The house was deafeningly silent as if no one was there. Ivy awoke drowsily. Outside, the sun was scorching. She stretched her back and prepared to descend to the ground floor to consume some water and remind Wyatt to take his medication. She was curious whether Wyatt felt better after taking the medication and supplements she mixed in. Ivy poured herself a glass of water and returned upstairs, but she was startled to hear Rosie stomping into the kitchen from the maid’s room on the first floor. “Madam, Ivy has no regard for anyone. She hasn’t eaten anything since she arrived here. Is she fearful that I will poison her?” Ivy had already walked up the stairwell to the second floor. When she heard this, she came to a halt. Ivy returned her gaze to the steps and sat, slowly sipping the glass of water. She almost forgot that Rosie would report to Eva every afternoon. The contents were quite enthralling. “Of course, she is inactive. Serve Mr. Reed? Certainly not! It is sufficient that Mr. Reed does not
serve her.” Ivy smirked as she heard the wheelchair behind her move. She shifted her weight and made a hushed gesture. Wyatt was taken aback by Ivy’s sudden reappearance. He observed her as she sat drinking water and eavesdropped on the conversation downstairs with great interest. Bill pushed Wyatt’s wheelchair forward without instruction, allowing him to hear clearly. “What’s more ridiculous is that she neglected to give Mr. Reed his medication yesterday and forced him to take a double dose this morning! She must be attempting to assassinate him. That woman is far too heinous. She is probably seeking vengeance on him. Madam, if that woman marries into the family again, she will undoubtedly cause havoc!” Wyatt’s expression abruptly changed. His initially surprised and happy expression gradually gave way to coldness and doom. His face appeared to be coated in a razor-sharp and dangerous haze. He remained silent, but his fingers clutching the wheelchair turned white. As he resisted, the veins in his arms bulged. Ivy sat calmly on the steps as if she were listening to irrelevant gossip. Her face was even tinged with a faint but icy smile. Her composure was like a knife that gradually gouged out his heart. Wyatt reasoned that by reuniting her with him, he would be able to convince her to forget about the unpleasant past and create some sweet memories with her to compensate for his regrets. Nonetheless, this was the outcome. Ivy sat there, unsurprised, as those derisive and abhorrent words were spoken. If Rosie was not someone Ivy could trust, what kind of life did she lead here for three years? Wyatt was incapable of imagining it. Rosie was one of Eva’s close associates. What would Eva have the nanny do to Ivy, given her temper and how much she despised her? He was acutely aware of Ivy’s emotional shifts over the course of the previous night. She progressed from disgust to indifference, then to coldness, and finally to contempt. These changes twisted around his heart like interlocking blades. It was agonizing. Finally, Rosie hung up.
Ivy rose calmly and was taken aback when she noticed Wyatt’s glum expression. ‘He is not the one being reprimanded; therefore, why is he so enraged?’ Wyatt grabbed Ivy’s arm as she was about to walk past him and inquired in a low, hoarse voice. “Are you angry, Ivy? Would you like me to discipline her?” Would expressing her rage help Ivy forget about her three years of misery? His thoughts were nearly heinous. ‘Perhaps it is not too late. Perhaps Ivy is truly unconcerned!’ Ivy’s lips were pursed, and her tone was flat. “I am not enraged. She has always been this way. Didn’t you know that already?” Wyatt’s heart shook violently. Even his right leg’s tendons ached slightly. According to her, he was lumped in with the rest of them and was identical to Eva. Ivy believed Wyatt would not assist her and was unconcerned about her. She was left to fend for herself, and he even thought she was obstructing his progress. Is he not always this way? What he saw today was merely the tip of the iceberg. Ivy attempted to flee, but Wyatt clutched her hand and looked at her with reddened pupils. His eyes nearly drowned her in their complexity and guilt. Ivy, on the other hand, remained immobile. She swore she would never again be a moth to a flame. Ivy retracted her gaze in annoyance. As Wyatt prepared to speak, Bill abruptly pushed his wheelchair backward, causing Wyatt to release Ivy, who then walked away subconsciously. Bill tossed him aside and walked alongside her. Wyatt found himself speechless. Rosie, who had vaguely heard the upstairs commotion, exhaled a sigh of relief when she noticed it was only Wyatt upstairs. “What can I do for you, Mr. Reed?” Wyatt redirected his attention. Rosie shuddered as the sharpness in his eyes swept dangerously toward her. “I’m immediately sending you abroad to learn how to be a proper maid.”
Rosie gave him a startled look. “What did I do wrong, President Reed? I’m not going anywhere.” Rosie earned between $20,000 to $30 per month working here. There was little work to be done, but she frequently received bonuses. She would be unable to obtain this treatment in any other location! Because the contract she signed with the Reed family was for thirty years, she was obligated to carry out the Reeds’ wishes.Content © NôvelDrama.Org 2024.
