Chapter 26 Gunshot attacks
Blaine didn’t say a word to Mavis about the death of her friend, knowing that she would respond very badly about it and may not even want to leave again even though she knows it’s dangerous for them to stay here.
He placed a call using Derrick’s phone and in the next thirty minutes a truck parked in front of their house. He didn’t want to wake Mavis up since she was sleeping so peacefully. He carried her in his arms and bade farewell to Derrick but he informed him that there will be some men on ground to protect him if he has to go anywhere.
When he got in the truck, he placed Mavis at the back so she could rest. He had already asked for something soft to be provided so she could sleep on it. He needed her to rest properly because she was pregnant and she needed it the most. Even if she wasn’t pregnant he would’ve still done his best to keep her safe and to make her comfortable.Content is © by NôvelDrama.Org.
” How long till we get to the airport?” He asked the driver of the truck.
” About twenty minutes if there’s no traffic” the bare-chested man responded.
” And if there’s traffic?”
” Well, it could be forty-five minutes. Why do you ask?” The man said and Blaine watched him from the back of the truck where he sat beside Mavis who was sleeping soundly.
He specifically asked Paulo to give him the contact of someone who wouldn’t ask any questions but yet this man was asking him questions. That meant only one thing to Blaine, someone else has contacted this man, probably even offered him something higher than what he offered the man.
The way the man avoided his eye contact through the rear mirror made Blaine even more certain of his suspicion. He immediately thought of placing a gun on his head and asking him about what deals he’s made with his enemies but before he could do so they experienced a severe collision with another vehicle.
” What’s the hell was that?” Blaine barked as the man struggled to remain in his lane while the vehicle kept slamming into them from the side.
” I think it’s some men. They called me asking if I was meeting you anytime soon. I swear that I told them I wasn’t! I don’t know how they fucking found me!” The man lamented and Blaine stared at him in surprise because he looked tough but sounded so terrified.
” Pussy” Blaine cursed before he brought out his gun. Mavis woke up when the truck got slammed against yet again.
” What’s happening?” She asked, holding her head and Blaine panicked because he suspected that the collision might be dangerous for her.
” Hey, come here.” He said holding up his hand to her. He wanted to place her on the inbuilt seats at the back so she could buckle up and be a little balanced but someone started firing gunshots at the padlock to the back of the truck.
” Mavis, seat in front and buckle up but bend your head in case they start shooting from the front” he ordered but Mavis froze. She couldn’t believe that they were being attacked by gunmen. Her life was quickly drifting away from normalcy and she hated it.
” Mavis go!” Blaine barked and she got up and struggled to keep balanced as she crossed over to the front seat and buckled up.
” Oh my God” she kept muttering and praying silently to God to save her. She didn’t want to die, not yet at least.
The door soon kicked open but before the three men who had blasted the door open with their bullets could get a shot at Blaine, he shot them all with one gun on his left and another on his right. Mavis saw it and she gulped wondering how on Earth he did that. She finally understood what they meant when he said he takes a shot very fast and never misses.
Immediately they fell to the ground, he took their guns and kicked them out of the truck and a black Jeep behind them started to shoot at him. He crouched and loaded the rifle that he obtained from the men he killed. He remained crouched until the men in the Jeep ran out of bullets before he rolled over to the center of the truck and unleashed everything on the tires of their car making them skid and crash against the median barrier.
He got up and said to Mavis, ” get up and come to the back”. Mavis didn’t even question him for one second. She got up and went to the back while he shut the door and told the driver, ” come over this way”
The driver left the steering wheel and entered the passenger seat quickly so that Blaine would take the wheel. The vehicle that had been slamming into them was still beside them but for some reason, it wasn’t slamming against them. Blaine suspected that they wanted to relocate and go behind his truck so they could invade them from behind.
He was tired of this fight so he looked back and saw that the door was open it would not close because the other men broke the lock. ” Hang on Mavis,” he said and suddenly matched the breaks before he maneuvered and went behind the vehicle that had been slamming against them then he grabbed the gun in his pocket and shot the tires mercilessly before he went back to his former lane and watched as they crashed into another car.
Without another word, he zoomed off and continued in that way till they got to the airport.
” Paulo, where are they?” Blaine said as he got out of the truck with Mavis after paying the driver his fee.
” They’re in your plane” Paulo responded.
” Okay, let’s get to Columbia ASAP,” he said and threw the phone to the ground and smashed it with his shoe. The entire time Mavis watched him in astonishment because she never expected that he would be so different, ruthless, and thorough. After what she just saw, she knew that Blaine was most definitely not just a good fighter, he was a murderer and it didn’t seem to phase him at all.
