The Cherished Wife

Chapter 745

Xavier, who had appeared uninterested moments before, suddenly looked up upon hearing Noelle's name. Winter noticed his reaction. A shadow crossed her eyes, but she forced herself to keep it in check. "Mom?"

Jade had also noticed and responded with a displeased expression, "That woman always manages to make me angry. Didn't I introduce her to a potential match before New Year's?"

"Yes, that's right. It's someone from the Smiths, a man named Bob, I believe?" Winter chimed in, playing along with Jade. This belongs © NôvelDra/ma.Org.

"What happened? Did Noelle end things with him?"

"Not at all! That woman has no manners at all. Even though I introduced them, how could she bring him home for New Year's, which is such an important occasion?" Jade complained, clearly exasperated.

"I've spoiled her too much, and now, she's become so reckless. It's supposed to be a family gathering, yet she brought an outsider along." "Yes, Noelle's actions do seem inappropriate," Winter agreed.

Then, she added, "But maybe it means things are going well between Noelle and Mr. Smith? It could be good news. Noelle isn't usually that thoughtless, so if she has decided to bring him home during New Year's, perhaps there's something worth celebrating!"

Winter glanced at Xavier. "What do you think, Xavier?"

Xavier seemed stunned for a moment. Then, he nodded perfunctorily. "Maybe."

Winter was not pleased with Xavier's reaction, but she kept her feelings hidden. "It's getting late. Where's Dad?"

"Oh, he said he'd be back soon." Jade took Winter's hand. "Come, sit down. It's been so long since I last saw you. Let me have a look-have you lost weight?"

Jade noticed the thick layer of makeup on Winter's face and thought about the allergy incident that happened some time ago.

Feeling sympathetic, she sighed. "I never imagined that woman could be so ruthless. A woman's face is so important, and she still did this to you."

Jade reached out and touched Winter's face. "Does it still hurt?"

"It doesn't Winter replied, awkwardly pulling Jade's hand away. "It's much better now. The doctor prescribed some medication, but need to avoid certain foods for a while."

She looked over at Xavier. "Xavier, doesn't my face look much better now?"

Being addressed directly, Xavier looked up and nodded. "Yes, it has improved a lot. But you should continue avoiding those foods."

"See, Mom? Even Xavier says so, so you don't need to worry." Winter quickly changed the subject. "Why hasn't Noelle come downstairs yet? Xavier hasn't met her boyfriend, has he?"

Winter's words were intended to jab at Xavier, reminding him that Noelle already had a boyfriend and that he should not harbor any illusions. However, at that moment, Noelle and Sean had already come downstairs. They had lingered on the staircase for a bit, so they overheard the conversation between Jade and Winter.

Sean found the whole thing rather

amusing as he listened, surprised by how shamelessly they could twist the truth. He had always thought he was shameless, but these two were on another level.

Noticing the playful glint in Sean's eyes, Noelle scratched her head awkwardly. "Sorry you had to witness that."
