Chapter 65 - Revving Up for the Finale
Chapter 65 - Revving Up for the Finale
Marco exited the car with a scowl on his face, convinced that Arthur had cheated in some way. There
was no way a bodyguard like Echo could have possessed such excellent driving skills. Adam
approached Marco, looking for an explanation as to why he lost.
"It can't be, you're great at driving, “ Adam said to Marco, then pointing at Echo. "there's no way you
should have been beaten by someone like him!"
"You guys are such losers. You can't even beat me, a mere bodyguard, and now you're trying to find
excuses for your defeat?" Echo scoffed as he turned to walk away.
Marco clenched his fists in anger at the loss he had experienced. He was certain he would win this
second round, but his car had run slower than usual.
"You've hired the number one professional racer for the third round, haven't you, Marco?" Adam said,
attempting to reassure himself.
“Yes Dad,” Marco replied confidently. “There's no way Arthur can beat the racer I've hired. He's the best
car racer in town, and he will crush Arthur so badly that he won't dare bother us again.”
After several minutes of preparation, the two cars for the last round of the afternoon race had been
readied. They were now lined up on the track.
Arthur confidently strode up to his super limited edition car, and as he was about to get in, he noticed a
man with long blonde hair standing beside another car. His name was Benno.
“Hey you,” Benno said to Arthur, “aren't you being a bit too confident trying to race me? I'm pretty sure
I'm going to beat you to the punch!”
"You've been too heavily influenced by the person who hired you," Arthur said as he casually got into
his sports car. "It's making you underestimate others too quickly without even giving them a fair
chance."
Benno approached Arthur's car, confidently declaring, "I'll give you two minutes to get a jump start on
the race, and I hope you don't get into an accident and destroy your car before I'm able to start my
engine and overtake you."
Arthur then started his car engine, and the soft, melodic purr of the engine filled the air. "Do whatever
you want," he said dismissively. "It's none of my business." NôvelDrama.Org: text © owner.
"Ha!" Benno exclaimed, trying to provoke Arthur. "Have you been sleeping too long, man? I think you're
dreaming even when you're awake! There's definitely something wrong in your head. Don't you know
how hard a professional racer has to train to reach my level? I think you're too foolish to be getting too
cocky with your riches."
Benno was clearly annoyed when he saw Arthur driving a highly exclusive and expensive car with
superior performance. Deep down, he wished he could own it. But he understood that a good car is
useless if it is driven by an amateur.
“I'm sure I can beat you even with one hand behind my back. Want to test my skills? I could even offer
you some handicaps and if you still lose, I expect you to give me the car.”
Arthur stepped on the gas, making the engine groan even louder, and he flashed a faint smile. "No
thanks," he said. "I don't want to bet with you; I wouldn't get anything out of it even if I won."
Benno couldn't help but chuckle as he observed the ostentatious yet foolish display of the man in front
of him. The luxury car he drove certainly looked impressive, yet he had no idea how to truly maximize
its potential.
Benno contemplated to himself that someone who was a skilled driver could do a lot with a car like this.
He had a passion for taking control of the driver's seat and the steering wheel, since he had been born
to be a race car driver.
"What do you say," he suggested, "if you win, I'll be your personal driver for the rest of my life and you
don't even have to pay me a salary, that is if you actually have the wealth you seem to possess?"
Benno confidently challenged Arthur to a bet, eager to seize the opportunity to make more money. He
saw it as a chance to have a bit of fun with the reward of a super limited edition car.
"Are you sure you are willing to give up your profession as a professional racer, and only serve me for
the rest of your life?" Arthur said quietly, not meeting Benno's gaze.
“Yeah sure, driving luxury cars is what I enjoy the most. If you can allow me to do that as part of my line
of work, that will be enough for me." Benno replied with a faint smile.
"Alright, it's a deal," Arthur said calmly. "Just promise me you'll race fairly, otherwise I won't be able to
enjoy this last round."
"Hah! That's your own wish," Benno replied with a smirk.
Benno was ecstatic that his clever deception had utterly fooled the man; it had been an act of sheer
foolishness. Challenging a professional racer was beyond absurd.
He then eagerly hopped into his car and quickly started the engine. With a bright, cheerful smile, he
turned to Arthur and confidently declared, "That Bugatti will soon be mine!"
Marco and Adam anxiously awaited the start of the final car race, eager to see Arthur's humiliation.
Marco was determined to make it even worse for him by taking Edna away, too.
"It's already clear who the winner will be," Adam said with a smug look.
"Yeah, this has to be the easiest way to make money. I wish there were more people like Arthur, so we
could get even richer by taking advantage of them," Marco declared loudly, his voice carrying over to
Edna, who was seated near Arthur's bodyguards.
The countdown to the car race was about to commence.
"Three!"
The two cars, both with engines revving and emitting a melodic roar, were ready to start the race.
[Host, don't you want to upgrade your driving skill to Expert? You certainly have enough VIP points to
do so.]
Arthur shook his head slowly in response, his expression indicating his skepticism.
"I'm aware that Benno is a professional racer," he began, "but I want to enjoy this race. Therefore, I'm
going to try and win using only my Advance driving skill. Plus, if I can manage to win, I won't have to
rely on driving skill too often, right? I'll have a professional racer who will be my personal driver."
[That's a very smart plan, Host!]
"Shut up, System."
The countdown finished, and with the sound of gunfire, the last round of the car race began. Who
would emerge as the victor?
