Chapter 1906 Participating In The Test

Rocky and Vivian immediately followed the crowd and lined up behind them. It took them about four hours of queuing before they finally registered their names.

The test would be administered in groups of twenty candidates each. While they waited for their turn, they hung around by the gate with the other members of the spiritual race.

About half an hour later, a Spiritual King of the Wankong Clan walked up to Rocky and the rest of their group.

"Please come with me," he called out as he ushered them inside.

Rocky, Vivian, and the others in their group then started walking in the same direction as the Spiritual King. He led them towards the gate of the Wankong Clan's residence.

"Listen carefully, everyone. Don't look around nor try to meander. Follow me closely. If you get lost and caught by the guards as intruders, no one can save you." The Spiritual King turned to issue them a warning.

The territory of the Wankong Clan was divided into five areas based on the terrain. At the lowest terrain was a vast area intended for the daily activities of the clan. All kinds of buildings also crowded the place.

Rocky and the entire group quickly kept up with him upon hearing what he said.

After walking for a while, they finally reached the training ground. They caught sight of a batch of people of the spiritual race that was undergoing the test.

When they looked closely, they noticed that this was a completely different test than what they were accustomed to.

They continued watching the ongoing test. At this time, a candidate walked into a platform that was engraved with spiritual marks. On the center sat a middle-level Spiritual Emperor.

After the candidate stood still, the middle-level Spiritual Emperor at the center picked up a pearl that emitted strong spiritual energy. He then raised his hand, and the pearl shot out a ray of spiritual light that instantly enveloped the man.

The spiritual marks on the platform suddenly shone brightly as well.

A few moments later, the spiritual marks on the platform lit up altogether, and the light that had enveloped the man returned to the pearl.

The middle-level Spiritual Emperor who controlled the pearl then stared at it for a moment and announced, "The spiritual root is at the Human Stage!"

In the spiritual race, the spiritual root was divided into four stages—the Human Stage, the Mystery Stage, the Earth Stage, and the Heaven Stage—and each one had three sublevels. The first level of the Human Stage was the most ordinary kind, and the highest rank was the third level of the Heaven Stage. However, the spiritual race had very few warriors whose roots were at the Heaven Stage. After all, the spiritual root could not be cultivated. It was inborn.

Rocky and Vivian slowly exchanged looks. They knew that the test of the spiritual mark was out of the ordinary. In an effort to keep their identities from getting exposed during the test, they simultaneously suppressed their own spiritual power to the level of an ordinary Spiritual King.

Even so, Rocky was still worried that the spiritual mark was strong enough to determine their true power despite hiding it. Seeing that there was nothing he could do at this moment, he decided to play by ear.

It did not take long before the previous group finished the test, so Rocky's group was about to go next.

When their turn began, the results of the first few candidates did not come out ideal. Consequently, most of them got eliminated.

During her turn, as Vivian stood on the platform covered with spiritual marks, the middle-level Spiritual Emperor controlling the spiritual marks suddenly made a face. He seemed to have sensed that her aura was a little different from the others. Nonetheless, he paid no attention to it.

Soon, the test began.

Just as the Spiritual Emperor threw the pearl at Vivian, the spiritual marks beneath her feet abruptly flashed an extremely unstable yet dazzling red light.

At the sight of this, Vivian frowned slightly. Her guess was that the spiritual marks might have been rejecting her demonic aura.

Even Rocky felt apprehensive that Vivian's identity might get exposed at any time.

Out of the blue, a pure power surged up within her and filled her entire body in an instant. With this, the spiritual marks on the platform stabilized again.

Rocky heaved a sigh of relief.

After the test, the middle-level Spiritual Emperor took a look at the pearl. He was stunned, and it took him a moment before he finally announced, "The spiritual root is at the first grade of the Heaven Stage."

The crowd then burst into an uproar upon hearing those words. Apparently, in the history of the selection, there had only been one candidate whose spiritual root was at the third grade of the Earth Stage. Until Vivian took the test, they had not found anyone whose spiritual root was at the Heaven Stage.

This news had the middle-level Spiritual Emperor grow especially excited. He promptly whispered a few words to a Spiritual King beside him and sent him on his way.

"Please take a rest on this side. Our young master will be here soon." The middle-level Spiritual Emperor motioned Vivian to go to the side.

She nodded and walked off the testing area. After exchanging eye contact with Rocky, she stood aside and waited patiently.

This time, it was Rocky's turn.

After standing on the spiritual marks, the area beneath his feet also began to repel his presence in the same way that happened to Vivian.

The middle-level Spiritual Emperor then cast a glance at Rocky and squinted his eyes. It puzzled him that strange things happened during Rocky's and Vivian's turn when the tests of all the other candidates went smoothly.

Anyway, similar to Vivian's test, the spiritual marks beneath Rock's feet soon stabilized again.

They ignored the irregularities and went on with the test.

However, after Rocky finished the test, the middle-level Spiritual Emperor staggered. When he saw the color of the pearl in his hand, he cried out, "Oh my! Somebody, inform the young master to come here right away!"

The sudden utterance caused the crowd to look at each other, trying to figure out what happened.

Rocky also felt strange even though he was sure he had hidden his strength well. If that was the case, there would not be a problem since his result should come out similar to Vivian's.

About fifteen minutes later, a handsome man came in a hurry with a few attendants. He was clothed with resplendent garments and walked with a graceful bearing, but his temperament seemed a little feminine along with a sense of discord.

"Young master, he might be the one we're looking for," the middle-level Spiritual Emperor quietly reported as he pointed at Rocky.

"Is he the one whose spiritual root is at the Heaven Stage?" The young master slowly sized Rocky up. Although subtle, Rocky did the same with him. He laughed in his heart as he had recognized that the young master was actually a woman dressed in men's clothes.

"This isn't him, but that person at the side." The middle-level Spiritual Emperor quickly waved his hand and pointed at Vivian.

"Oh? What is the deal with this guy, then?" The young master felt bemused. He did not understand why his subordinate claimed that Rocky was the one they were looking for.

At this point, the middle-level Spiritual Emperor decided to talk to the young master of the Wankong Clan in hushed tones.

As the young master heard the explanation, his expression changed in an instant.

"What is your name?" the young master asked intently.

"My name is Rookie Ling," Rocky replied. He needed to conceal his identity. In addition to several great clans, most of the members of the spiritual race had the surname of Ling, so Rocky made up a fake name—Rookie Ling.

"Where are you from?" the young master probed further.
