Chapter 180
On the grassy mountaintop, where the sunlight embraced the tents, Shakira's lively and beautiful face was glowing. She was clearly enjoying the food Sean arranged for her!
The floor-to-ceiling curtains in the suite were drawn, leaving only a sliver of light through which Walter peered. His stern face was caught in the flickering light and shadows, with those eyes as deep as the sea. The room was eerily quiet.Content © NôvelDrama.Org 2024.
But despite the calm, there was a sense of a storm coming. Brian's expression tightened. "Sean has brought some staff of the forest service office; it's my fault I couldn't stop him from going up the mountain."
"Yonder Digital, it has been climbing too fast these past couple of years." The statement was sudden, but after years of service under Walter, Brian understood his thoughts well. "I'll dig up all the dirt on Sean right away."
He turned to leave. When he just opened the door, he almost bumped into Shakira, who was coming in with a plate of food. "Oh, Brian, you're here! Perfect timing, I've brought some food for you guys. Go ahead and eat." With that, Shakira quickly walked to Walter's side. Seeing his young boss had already calmly returned to his desk from the window, Brian quietly closed the door. Shakira placed the tray on the table. "Mr. Lopez, you must be hungry, right?"
Walter didn't even look at her. "Humph, bringing food that someone else went to great lengths to get for you to win me over?" Shakira blinked her bright eyes, quite surprised. "Mr. Lopez, you're so informed. You seem to know everything?"
As soon as she finished speaking, Shakira was caught by Walter's dangerous gaze. She, not daring to joke anymore, raised her hand in surrender and confessed honestly, "Alright, this food was indeed sent over by Sean, but if you're mad because of that, I think I can explain."
Walter didn't respond, so Shakira rubbed her nose and continued, "You know I joined a design competition before, right? It was Sean's team, and I interacted with him. We had a superior-subordinate relationship, and now Xanthe's dad works with Sean. Sending over some food is just a natural thing."
Walter scoffed coldly, "A natural thing? Do you realize how much effort and resources are needed to keep these things fresh and deliver them from the airport to the mountaintop?"
Shakira slightly frowned, not quite understanding why Walter was so fixated on this point and wouldn't let it go. "He treated me, so I should just eat without worrying. After all, it's not my money being spent. So why worry? Later, if he needs me, I' can just draw a few more designs for him.
"Does having a meal mean I'm indebted to him forever? I bring it over for you to eat now. Wouldn't you be indebted to him if you eat it?"
Walter was taken aback, but her straightforward words lifted his gloom and frustration a bit. "You have a pretty laid-back way of looking at things," he said.
Shakira pouted. "So, are you eating or not?" Walter maintained his calm, aloof demeanor. "There are ingredients in the truck, go prepare something."
Shakira thought with frustration, 'Seriously? I shouldn't have come. Now, it looks like I invite trouble!' Shakira clenched her fist, held back her annoyance, and turned to leave. After all, she had promised to take care of his daily needs!
Shakira took the food off her plate and handed it to Brian and the others. "You guys brought food all the way up mountain?" Brian nodded, "Yeah, it's over here."

Several trucks were parked near Walter's suite. Brian took her to the back of one, and when he opened it, Shakira was stunned. They had brought up a mini fridge with all the usual kitchen supplies, almost everything one might need! "No way, how could there be power?" Brian pointed to the small black box hidden behind the fridge. "It's a generator-it can

support about five hours, so I'll have to trouble you to make two meals at once, Ms. Nelson."
Shakira answered, "No, it's not a trouble at all." She thought to herself, 'It's more like a hard life. Her curiosity was piqued. She walked to the trunks of the other two cars and asked, "Here?" Brian opened them one by one. "This one contains the mobile data network. Mr. Lopez needs a dedicated internet connection to work. And this car holds his clothes and personal items."
Looking at the large amount of electronics and a pile of clothes and accessories, Shakira silently gave a thumbs-up. The world of rich people was sometimes really hard to understand!
She couldn't help but wonder when exactly Walter had decided to come along with her. She hadn't even seen him pack last night! With all the utensils and spices ready, Shakira picked out some ingredients and went back into the suite. There was a small kitchen where she needed to put in effort to cook delicious food for Walter.
Meanwhile, Xanthe finished the rest of the food all by herself. Her stomach was full and round, and she felt completely satisfied. Of course, satisfying her appetite was part of it, but the real joy was the happiness in her heart.
Next door, a group of people looked at her enjoying her feast all by herself, envious and practically drooling. "What a thrill!" she exclaimed. She lay on the grass sunbathing, feeling so lazy that she almost fell asleep. Suddenly, her phone rang, and Xanthe answered it slowly. "Hello?" "Where did Shakira go?"
Xanthe woke up with a start. Her drowsiness disappeared, and she quickly sat up, looking around. Sure enough
Not far away, in a fancy glass suite, Sean was gazing out intently in her direction like a hamster in a glass ball. Seeing Xanthe just staring blankly, Sean asked again, "Where is she? Why doesn't she answer the phone call?" "Uh, she probably went for a walk nearby and left her phone."
"Where did she go?"
"That's kind of hard to explain. Hold on, I'll come to you!" Xanthe quickly hung up the phone and ran over to Sean's suite without a word.
The classmates watched as she hurried inside and pulled all the curtains shut to block out any outside eyes. Berry immediately mocked, "Wow, Xanthe always bragged about how rich her family was, acting so confident, but it turns out she's just using tricks like this to climb up!"
The others were shocked. "No way. Isn't Xanthe's dad supposed to be really powerful?" Berry smirked, "As powerful as Sean? Her dad's been trying really hard to get in Mr. Reynolds' favor every day now!"
Ever since Enrique started working for Sean, Berry's parents had been complaining at home, wondering why Walter couldn't help with their business. They always hinted it was Berry's fault for being useless!
Berry became even more resentful towards Xanthe upon thinking about this, and she allowed her wild slander to burst forth. "Hahaha, her Dad's responsible for cozying up to powerful people, and she offers herself up. Truly a family... Humph!"
Suddenly, she felt soup streamed down from above. Berry completely lost her composure. It took her a moment before she looked up angrily. "Shakira!"
Shakira placed the tray back on the table and wiped the grease off her fingertips. Her nonchalant sidelong glance made Berry shudder involuntarily. "Don't blame others for your own evil thoughts and dirty tricks, Berry. Don't think no one knows what you've done."
Berry froze, fear sweeping through her entire being. She thought, 'What does Shakira mean by that?! Could it be... she knows something?'
