hen she left. He went crazy

Chapter 77 She Will Die More Miserably

I reached out in the dark to turn on the light and glanced towards the door, which was closed shut.

It wasn’t Elissa who closed the door.

After all, she was with me at the hospital tonight. She was afraid of affecting my sleep and delaying my recovery, so she insisted on sleeping at the sofa in the living room. She was also worried that she wouldn’t hear me if I felt unwell and called for her, so she left the door half–open.

Now, obviously someone had come in.

Was it him?

I didn’t know.

However, it didn’t matter.

The next day, after a good night’s sleep, I felt much better.

The nurse brought a nutritious breakfast for two including fruits and bird’s nest, which was pretty good.

Elissa was surprised, “Your hospital is quite generous.”

The nurse smiled, “This is to help the patient recover faster. However, this is a personalized nutrition plan tailored by the director specifically for Mrs. Valence.”

As she spoke, she proceeded to check my temperature and continued, “Mrs. Valence, you still have a slight fever. Have your breakfast first, and then I’ll call Professor Smith over.”

After she left, Elissa gave me a puzzled look. “Are you really heading for a divorce?”

“Otherwise?” I answered.

“Can you still eat this breakfast then?”

She gestured toward the lavish breakfast, looking eager.

I smiled helplessly, “Divorce doesn’t mean wasting food, so go ahead and eat!”

I was used to Christopher’s ways.

He always alternated between punishment and rewards.

But now, I wasn’t falling for it anymore.

Just as I finished breakfast, Barry, with a few servants, came over with various tonics; caterpillar fungus, bird’s nest,

fish maw, ginseng, and donkey–Hide gelatin. They all quickly filled up half of the living room.

His weathered face showed slight regret as he consoled, “Mrs. Valence, I heard about the baby; don’t be too sad. You and Christopher are still young, so there will be plenty of opportunities to have baby in the future. Eat these tonics first; there are plenty more at the Valence Manor. Once you’re discharged, you can properly nourish your body.”

“Barry.” I said.

Barry was the housekeeper who always followed Grandpa Valence, so I respected him. “This time, Christopher and I will definitely divorce, and there won’t be any more babies in the future. You can take these things back.” This text is © NôvelDrama/.Org.

He couldn’t persuade me further and waved his hand, “Mr. Valence gave these to you, not by Christopher. Rest assured. He always said that the Valence family owes you, so you must accept these, otherwise he won’t be able to rest in peace in heaven.”

“Alright.”

After hesitating, I agreed and couldn’t help but shed tears when I thought of Grandpa Valence. I wiped the corners of my eyes and said, “About the two jade pendants Grandpa Valence gave to the baby, I’ve always kept them in the safe in the room and never brought them out. When you have time, please give them to Christopher.”

Barry had set the passwords for each safe in the Valence Manor initially, and later reminded me to change them after 1 got married. However, my stay there was too short, so I never got around to it.

This saved me some trouble now.

Seeing my firm attitude, Barry had to agree. Later on, he said with some hesitation, “Do you have something to tell

me?”

I had to ask, “How’s the situation with the medicine?”

Hesitating slightly, he continued, “There’s some progress with Mr. Valence’s medicine you asked me to look into. But as you suspected, it’s not that simple. Now that you’re divorcing Christopher, I’m afraid you might get involved again.”

1 perked up and asked, “Don’t worry about this affecting the divorce; that’s between him and me. However, Grandpa Valence has always been so good to me, so I don’t want him to leave in uncertainty.”

I already made this promise. Soon, Barry finally decided to speak up and took out a transparent sealed bag from his pocket, containing only a small pill,

I was all too familiar with it.

It was the emergency medicine Grandpa Valence always carried in his pocket.

Barry said, “A few days ago, when the servants were cleaning Mr. Valence’s study, they found this under the carpet on the desk.”

I took it and examined it carefully, feeling a chill down my spine.

The air in Jacquar City wasn’t particularly dry, so if the pill had fallen a long time ago, it would’ve become somewhat damp.

Chapter 77 She Will Die More Miserably

However, there were no traces of dampness in the pill.

My voice tightened involuntarily as I asked, “When was the last time we did deep–cleaning at the Valence Manor?”

“The day before Mr. Valence had the accident, there was a thorough cleaning.”

Barry had obviously considered this question and answered immediately, his expression also turning serious.

In other words, all signs indicated that the pill had fallen on the day Grandpa Valence passed away.

Moreover, he only fell ill when he was alone with Evelyn; the only time he’d take this medicine.

But when I confronted Evelyn that night, she didn’t mention anything about him wanting to take the medicine!

Barry and I exchanged glances, both seeing deep suspicion in each other’s eyes. I pursed my lips and asked, “Does Christopher know about this?”

“Not yet.”

“There should be a fingerprint analysis first.” I continued.

I thought for a moment, “There’s no point in telling him now. Based on his trust in Evelyn, he might think I’m deliberately tarnishing his beloved’s image.”

“In fact, Christopher definitely doesn’t like Evelyn.”

Barry tried to explain for Christopher, but I interrupted softly. “It doesn’t matter what he thinks, what matters is that he really cares about Evelyn, right?”

Regardless of what Christopher thought of her, in his eyes, she was more important than anyone else.

That was enough.

Barry’s eyes turned cold as he sternly replied, “Rest assured. If Mr. Valence’s death is indeed related to her, she will die more miserably.”

In that moment, I seemed to see Grandpa Valence’s shadow in Barry.

I nodded, “I believe that.”

Although Christopher was biased, once the evidence was clear and it concerned Grandpa Valence, he wouldn’t let Evelyn off the hook.

Barry said, “I’ll go get the fingerprint analysis done first.”

“Okay.”

I reminded him anxiously, “You should find someone reliable to avoid tipping our hand. If it really is her, the medicine bottle might still be at the Valehce Manor. Look around again.”

After chatting with me for a bit more, Barry got up solemnly to leave.

Could this kind of despicable murderous gene be passed down through generations?

Brenda killed Christopher’s mother.

Now, Evelyn was a suspect in grandfather’s death.

I shuddered, seeing Barry off at the door. I then saw Evelyn coming over from a distance, showing no signs of weakness from being ill.

Barry’s face turned even more grim. He was ready to leave, but Evelyn glanced at the tonics my ward and stopped him. as if she was the future Mrs. Valence.

She smiled gently and softly said, “Barry, she’s divorcing Christopher soon, and Grandpa Valence has passed away.

should figure out who you should be pleasing!”
