Chapter 73
Chapter 73 Die to Protect You
Hearing this, Cedric stopped dead in his tracks. There was a slight shift in his gaze.

Maia smiled. “Try me.”
“Okay, you win.” Letting out a bitter smile, he put her down gently.
As she found her footing, she noticed the change in his expression. It was a look of loneliness.
Maia could not help but feel bad for him. Looking away, she turned and said coldly, “Just stay out of my face forever.” That was what she wished for most. Her eyes turned red. Perhaps it was due to the strong wind on Prismara Hill?
She headed toward Nigel. When the guards saw Maia, they looked at Cedric and only backed away after he gave them a slight nod.
“Let's get the hell out of here.” Nigel opened the front passenger door for Maia, and she got in.
Soon, the car moved away. Staring after it, Cedric took out his phone and sent Maia a text.
Maia’s phone vibrated. She picked it up and saw Cedric’s message. It read, “I'll die to protect you from now on.” Tears welled up in her eyes. It was too late now, wasn't it?
Maia pocketed her phone and looked out the window. The scenery on Prismara Hill was the same as before, but it had undergone a tremendous change.
“Maia,” Nigel said, breaking the silence.
“What's the matter, Nigel? Maia asked.
After hesitating, Nigel asked, “How did you end up at his place? What happened?” “My car broke down, and he happened to pass by. | passed out due to fever, so he tried to help, “Maia said truthfully. “He happened to pass by?” Nigel smiled. “Do you think so?”
Puzzled, Maia said, “You're saying he was stalking me?”
“What was wrong with your car?” Nigel asked.
Maia shook her head. “I don’t know yet. He told Baz to take care of it.”
Nigel chuckled. “Then we would never find out what happened, would we?”
Maia was baffled. “What do you mean?
“| think he had something to do with your car breaking down.”
Maia was taken aback. “Why would you think so?”
“Well, he first did something to your car, followed you, then got you into his car before telling Baz to remove any evidence of what they did. Cedric is truly something else, isn’t he?”
Nigel angrily knocked on the steering wheel. “He could have gotten you killed by tampering with your car!” Although it was only his speculation, it was not unlikely that Cedric would do such a thing.
Maia bit her lower lip and said, “I'll be careful next time.”
Worried for her safety, Nigel said, “How about you let me take you home after work?”
Maia shook her head with a smile. “It’s okay. | know you're busy. I’ll let Buck do it.”
Alook of sadness flashed across Nigel’s eyes. “You know | always have time for you, right?”
“Don't worry, Nigel. I'll be fine. | promise!” She smiled.
She didn’t love him, so other than paying him more than necessary for his attorney fees, she could do nothing to repay him. She didn’t even want to trouble him today.
“Okay, just try your best to stay away from Cedric. Call me like you did today if you need me, alright?”
Maia nodded. “Thank you so much for coming to Prismara Hill at this hour, Nigel.”
“Hey, you know I'd do anything for you.
Maia gave him a thankful smile. She then looked out the window.
Meanwhile, Baz entered the study and saw Cedric sitting in the leather chair. “Sir, I’ve told our guys to send your mom and Ms. Zera home.”
“Never let them come in here again without my permission.”
“Yes, sir.” Baz nodded.
“Have you found out what was wrong with the car?”
Baz answered truthfully, “The undercarriage was damaged, and there was an oil leak. Someone ... sabotaged the car.” With a frown, Cedric slammed his fist on the desk. “Inspect the entire car. Make sure there are no other problems!”
“Yes, sir!”
Concerned about Maia’s safety, Cedric deepened his frown. Who could have sabotaged her car? What was the purpose? “Find out who did this!” He could never allow anyone to put her in danger again.
Baz nodded. “Yes, sir.”
The room fell into a dreadful silence again.
Glancing around, Baz asked tentatively, “Sir, has Ms. Maia left at this hour?”
