Hearing this, Hope said, “Can you please help me make a tweet? Tell them that I’m fine, and have some food delivered to them, okay?”
“Sure, I'll get it done.”
“Thanks, Wesley.”
Wesley nodded with a smile. “I'll leave you two alone then.” After Wesley went away, Maia asked, “What the hell happened?”
“| went to pick up my mom, and on our way back, a car sped out from an alley and crashed into ours. That man drove very fast, as if he did it on purpose. It was so scary.”
Hope felt scared thinking about it.
“Did you see his face?”
Hope shook her head. “No, he was wearing a mask. It all happened so fast, | couldn’t get a good look at him.” Maia narrowed her eyes. Why would anyone wear a mask on a hot day like this?
“Hope! Hope!” The door slammed open, and Homer almost stumbled as he stormed in. “Are you okay? How the hell did it happen?”
Seeing him so anxious, Hope quickly said, “I’m fine, Dad. Have you seen Mom yet? How is she?”
“She's fine, and all she needs is rest. Thank God that the two of survived the accident!” The incident was too much for an elderly man like Homer.
Feeling like an outsider, Maia took a few steps back and turned to leave.
At this moment, however, Homer said to her fiercely, “You’re the one behind the accident, aren’t you? | knew you weren't going to go easy on Yvette! You wanted to kill both her and Hope, didn’t you?”
Unsurprised by his assumptions, Maia simply smiled. “The police will come to take Hope’s statement later. Feel free to tell them that.”
Hope pulled at Homer. “What are you talking about, Dad? Maia is innocent. | called her right after the accident, and she came immediately!”
“You never know. She could just be toying with you. You're too innocent a girl to know what she’s capable of.” +15 BONUS
Embarrassed for her father’s sake, Hope frowned. “Drop it, Dad. | know you’re upset by the accident, but how could you accuse your own daughter?”
Composing himself, Home realized she was right. Wasn’t Maia his daughter as well?
Knocking on the door, Buck showed up at the door with the food he bought and was confused by what was going on. “lm back, Maia,” Buck said.Exclusive © content by N(ô)ve/l/Drama.Org.
“Buck, you came!” Hope smiled.
Blushing, Buck nodded. “I bought some food for you. | hope you like it.”
Hope saw the paper bag Buck was holding and said happily, “That’s my favorite restaurant!”
“It's mine, too!” Chuckling, Buck put it on the bedside table.
“Thank you so much, Buck!”
Buck blushed even more. “You're welcome. It’s the least | can do.”
Maia was amused to see him acting like a schoolboy in love.
Maia did not need her to be there, so she headed out.
As she reached the door, Homer took a few steps nearer and said, “Sorry, Maia. | was just...”
“It's okay, I’m used to it.”
It was his apology that she wasn’t used to. Maia then quickly walked out of the ward.
Five minutes later, Buck came out of Hope’s room and saw Maia outside.
“Hey, Maia.”
Seeing him, Maia said, “Stay here and take care of her, okay?”
“Huh?” Buck was puzzled.
“Just keep her safe. | think there’s something more to all this than just a simple accident.” She was worried about Hope’s safety.. Buck grew nervous. “You think someone was behind it?”
“It's just a guess. Anyway, you were a nurse, and no one dares to mess with you. You're perfect for the job.”
Buck eagerly nodded. “Don’t worry, Maia. Leave it to me.”
Nodding, Maia threw a concerned glance toward the ward.
She also wished it was just an accident, but it didn’t seem to be so. She had to make sure Hope was safe. “Eat more, Hope.
“Go take care of Mom, Dad. Remember to bring some food to her, too.”
Concerned, Homer said, “How can you eat so little? | know you're an actress, but you shouldn't just think about maintaining your figure, okay? Look how thin you are.”
“I'm fine, Dad. I’m already full.”
“But you really should eat more...”
Hearing Homer’s concerned words and seeing the smile on Hope’s face, Maia couldn’t help but envy her.
Looking away, Maia checked the time and saw it was late. She gave Buck some instructions and headed toward the elevator. The corridor was quiet late at night.
Maia took the elevator to the underground parking lot.
Just as she walked toward her car, she suddenly heard faint footsteps moving in on her.
