Chapter 80
Chapter 80 Must I Let Go?
“Wait here.”
Baz would arrive soon with the bodyguards. Cedric knew he had to buy some time for Maia.
Shaking her head, she said earnestly, “No, it’s too dangerous. He has a gun!
Cedric saw her gripping his palm with both hands and smiled. “I'll be fine.”
He sounded casual and confident, but Maia knew how dangerous it was.
“Cedric”
Before she could say anything further, the door was closed, and she was left alone in the cramped and dark room. Peering out through a narrow gap, she watched Cedric move away.
Still feeling the warmth of his palm, she covered her mouth to stop herself from making any sound lest she would spoil his plan. ‘Pull yourself together, Maia! You must not cry or make any sound...
She kept telling herself.
However, she couldn’t hold back her tears. Suddenly, she heard a flurry of rapid footsteps.
Maia saw Theo chasing after Cedric.
As she was the one Theo wanted to kill, she knew she couldn’t stand by and do nothing. Biting her lips, Maia glanced around through the narrow gap.
She took out her phone to see where her car was.
Making sure that Theo had run away, she pocketed her phone and hurried toward her car in quick steps while staying low to the ground.
Having a good sense of direction, Maia was relieved when she soon found her car. She got into the car in the dark.
She knew full well what would happen if she were to start her car now-Theo would be drawn by its lights and sound, and she would become a live target.
Yet, she knew she had to do it. Shutting the car door, she started the engine and floored the
gas.
Driving around, she searched around for Cedric,
When she saw him, she quickly opened the passenger door and sped over.

“Get in!” she shouted.
Suddenly, gunshots were fired repeatedly.
Cursing, Theo kept shooting.
Cedric threw himself into the car. When Maia was about to floor the gas, he saw the gun aiming at her and shielded her.
Another gunshot rang out, and a bullet pierced through the driver’s seat window, hitting his shoulder and spraying blood everywhere.
“Cedric!” Maia screamed.
“Drive!” he said steadily.
Biting her lower lip, Maia floored the gas and sped toward the exit as bullets struck the rear end of the car.
After making sure it was safe, Cedric let go of Maia and sat in the passenger seat with a frown. “You should have stayed there.” He had not wanted her to risk her life, and he knew Theo was no match for him, even with at
gun.
Maia pursed her lips. “I don’t want to owe you anything.”
Knowing that it was him who owed her a great deal, Cedric gave her a bitter smile.
As Maia drove toward the ER entrance of the hospital, a jeep suddenly blocked her path.
Momentarily blinded by its light, she gripped the steering wheel and wanted to charge ahead when a head popped out from the vehicle.

Seeing him, Maia let out a relieved sigh and loosened her grip on the steering wheel. “Have you seen Mr. Cedric?” Baz quickly asked.
“He’s in the car, and he’s injured. Take him to the ER now.”
“What? He’s hurt again?” Stepping out of the jeep with the bodyguards, Baz dashed over. He gasped seeing Cedric sitting in the front passenger seat, his shirt soaked in blood. “I'm fine,” Cedric said casually.
“Let's go, sir.” Baz tried to support him, but Cedric pushed him away.
He walked up to Maia and held her cold hand.
“It's not safe here. Don’t leave my sight.” He was worried about her.
Maia was, moved despite herself as she met his gaze
