Chapter 42 The Result Backfiring
Freya Stone stared at him, sensing his ill intentions. Sure enough, Elijah chuckled and said, “I’m delighted to see you at a loss.”
Freya retorted with mild sarcasm, “You have quite unique hobbies. If others don’t know, they might think you’re crazy.”
She sat on the bed, her body recovering after today’s activities. It was almost nine, and she urged, “Aren’t you going back yet?”
The more she wanted to drive him away, the more Elijah insisted on staying.
“You’re here, where should I go?” he leaned back casually.
Ignoring him, Freya lay down on the bed.
Elijah declared, “I’ll sleep here tonight.”
Pretending not to hear, Freya wrapped herself tightly in the blanket, wary that he might try to snatch it away. Amused by her actions, Elijah raised an eyebrow, finding her behavior quite cute. As he loosened his collar, an unexpected heat enveloped him. Despite the air-conditioned room and the autumn night, he felt strangely hot and restless.
His vision blurred, and he frowned, realizing something was off.
“Freya Stone,” he lowered his voice, a hint of huskiness, “did you put something in the water?”
Freya considered this an attempt to pick a fight and remained silent. Gritting his teeth, Elijah stood up, approaching the bed. The seemingly steady steps concealed internal turmoil. The heat surged through him, a fiery sensation that defied logic.
“Freya Stone,” he questioned with a suppressed tone, “are you so incapable of being without a man? Did you resort to such a despicable act as drugging someone?”
Freya Stone, realizing his misunderstanding, opened her eyes wide, “What nonsense are you talking about? I didn’t drug anyone.”Content © NôvelDrama.Org.
“Do you dare to admit it?” Elijah wasn’t overly angry. He liked this woman. It seemed that being drugged provided a convenient excuse to approach her intimately, and he could later claim it was the effect of the substances.
His Adam’s apple bobbed, and he leaned closer, his voice low and alluring, “If you like me, just say it. I’m not unwilling to fulfill a husband’s duty.”
Concerned about the situation spiraling, Freya attempted to rise, but Elijah firmly pressed her shoulders down.
At that moment, Liora arrived with a man outside the ward.
She was the one who drugged the water.
She even brought a man. Her plan was to record a video of Freya Stone with the man and show it to Elijah, making him believe Freya Stone betrayed him and leaving the path clear for her to take his affections.
Silently pushing the door open, she intended to sneak the man into the room. However, Freya noticed her. Freya immediately grasped the situation. She glanced at the table, where Elijah had drunk water. Linda had brought it from the hospital. Liora must have tampered with it, explaining Elijah’s current condition.
Liora Valentine was truly a ruthless woman. Having drugged Freya Stone before and subjected her to an amniocentesis, she now went so far as to poison Elijah.
Freya shifted her strategy from resistance to seduction, actively showing affection to Elijah. “This is a hospital. Can we continue at home?”
Elijah, already lost in his thoughts, questioned her, “Are you willing?”
“Of course, I am,” she replied, casting a quick glance toward the doorway.
Liora drugged the water for Freya to drink. Judging from the situation in the ward, it looked like Elijah drank the water.
Liora pushed the door open. She couldn’t think about that much. In short, Freya Stone and Elijah must be stopped!
The door swung open, and Elijah’s expression turned dark. He stood up, glaring at the intruder, “Who allowed you to come in?”
Seeing it was Liora Valentine, his displeasure intensified.
Liora quickly responded, “I came to see Freya.”
Freya Stone, acting affectionate while holding Elijah from behind, mocked, “You came to see me? What for?”
Although Elijah was tall, Freya knelt on the bed, just enough to rest her chin on his shoulder. She looked proud, but kept praying in her heart that Elijah must not push her away at this time.
Fortunately, Elijah was cooperative. He liked Freya Stone to be close to him. He liked the smell of her body.
Liora Valentine’s face turned the color of pig liver with fury, but she didn’t dare to show up in front of Elijah.
“I’m on night shift today and I’m here to check the ward. I want to see if Freya needs help.” Liora forced a smile.
“Are you so nice to me?” Freya smiled and asked. She eyed the man by the door, noticing his unattractive appearance.
Liora had truly gone to extremes. If Freya had drunk the water and a man appeared in the room, the consequences would be disastrous.
With a cold glance, Freya continued, “Who is this? Your boyfriend?”
Considering Elijah’s mixed feelings toward Liora, partly due to her actions and partly due to lingering sentiments, Freya tactfully stoked the flames.
Liora ‘s face reddened with anger. “I have many admirers. Can’t I accept them all?”
Since Liora intended to frame her, she had no mercy.
“You have quite a few men. But they’re all so ugly. What do you think?” said Freya.
“What are you talking about?” Liora almost jumped up in anger and yelled, “Stop slandering me!” After saying that, she immediately looked at Elijah and explained, “Don’t get me wrong, he is just a patient of mine, not my boyfriend. I have never had a boyfriend.”
After Liora said this, Freya immediately looked at Elijah’s face. Whether Liora had a boyfriend, she and Elijahhad seen it with their own eyes.
Liora denied it at this time. What would Elijah be thinking?
As expected, Elijah looked pretty dark.
Freya finally understood why he was so conflicted about Liora. It should be when he was with Liora at the beginning, he didn’t know that she had a boyfriend. Later, when he found out about it, he felt disgusted. That was why sometimes he treated Liora badly and sometimes he treated her nice.
“I remember, when we were in school, there was a rich second-generation man named Rylan Hawke who pursued you. Didn’t you agree?” asked Freya deliberately.
Liora didn’t expect that things would develop like this. She originally wanted to frame Freya, but now the fire has burned herself. She hated it to death, “There are so many people who like me, can I accept them all?”
“Oh-” Freya drew a long ending.
Elijah would only doubt Liora’s character since he knew Liora was lying.
Freya’s goal was achieved.
Liora liked Elijah. By instigating their relationship, she had avenged her child.
“Get out!” Elijah’s tone was stern.
Liora Valentine, frustrated, muttered, “Elijah…”
“I’ve said it before, don’t call my name. Can’t you understand?” Elijah’s anger was evident.
Liora Valentine, unable to argue further, reluctantly left the ward.
Once she was gone, Freya withdrew her hands, but Elijah caught them, asking, “Are you happy now?”
