Chapter 1252
But Finnegan ignored Gerry and instead, took Esther by the hand and left the place.
Once they were outside, he looked her over and said, 'Even though he's not serious about it, he's got some good makeup skills."
Esther snorted in disdain. "That's because I'm already pretty without trying."
"Yeah." Finnegan smiled tenderly. "I'm sure you trust me now. Come, let's go there."
Esther agreed, thinking they were just going to a party. But when they got there, she was suddenly overwhelmed. The place was filled with stunning, stylish people, and she felt out of place.
Finnegan nudged her elbow. "What's the matter? You were excited before, why the nerves now?"
Esther blushed. "I didn't realize there'd be so many people," she admitted.
"It's a party full of celebrities," Finnegan explained, grabbing two glasses of champagne from a waiter. He handed one to Esther.
"Then why are we here?" Esther asked, feeling silly as soon as the words left her mouth. She took a sip of her champagne to hide her embarrassment.
"Just for some fun," Finnegan said casually.
"Fun?" Esther was confused. Something she'd been wondering about slipped out. "Who are you, exactly? How do you get into these places?'
Finnegan just smirked and blinked. "What do you think?"
"Why won't you just tell me?" Esther pressed, feeling frustrated.Published by Nôv'elD/rama.Org.
"Have you forgotten my last name?" Finnegan asked, his smile hinting at something.
"Fox?" Esther racked her brain. When she connected the dots, her eyes went wide. "You're a Fox!"
The Fox family, despite being based overseas, was a big deal, way more influential than she had imagined. And here she was, thinking of Finnegan as just a smart, handsome guy from a humble background.
"This is unbelievable,' Esther exclaimed, her thoughts suddenly shifting to the past. First, it was James. Then, it was Finnegan. Their identities were shocking.
But then, she wondered how James was, especially since she heard he was ill. Yet, why did she care? He didn't want to talk to her and even blocked her.
Annoyed with herself for even thinking about him, Esther tried to shake off those thoughts.
For some reason, Finnegan could tell what she was thinking, but he knew better than to ask directly about her thoughts. Instead, he asked, "Are you bored?"
"No, I'm fine. Just happy to be here," Esther said with a forced smile, trying to convince herself as much as Finnegan. "I should just enjoy the moment, right?"
Finnegan agreed, 'Don't think about the bad stuff now. We came here so you could have a good time and forget your worries for a while."
