Carson’s POV

She scented so nice, like lemon and rose. I didn’t want her to let go, when she tried letting go, I wrapped my hand around her waist tightly like a man tied to his mother’s apron string.

“C-a-r-son, please let go” She requested.

“I don’t want to. I want to keep you in my arms forever”. She giggled, I heard it. She didn’t struggle, she remained in my arms until I was ready to let go. When I released her, she lowered her gaze and turned to leave, she was too shy to look at me.

“Valerie!” I called. She didn’t turn to look at me so I caught her hand. She was so shocked, I felt her body shake like she got struck with lightening.

‘Look at me!” I walked to her front and held up her chin. “Please don’t kiss me Carson” she whispered. Was she thinking out loud? Was I meant to hear that? Hearing the word kiss from her was soothing, so she was thinking about kiss? What does she really want? Does don’t kiss me mean kiss me or did she mean it?

I kept starting into her green emerald eyes and though she tried to look away at some point, I held her chin in place. Her face was so red already, I couldn’t help but stiffle a smile

“Why shouldn’t I kiss you?” I teased

“Please don’t” I let go of her chin and her hand, she ran off without looking back.

I heaved a sigh of relief, if she had stayed any longer I wouldn’t have been able to hold back from kissing her all over her body. She filled the room with her presence, I took in a deep breath to sniff in her lasting perfume. Benson walked in before I could relive the memory adequately.

“You should really knock before entering my room” I cautioned with a straight face.

“I’m sorry boss,” He apologized. “Are you alright?”

“Yes, why do you ask?”

“Your face is so red”

I turned to a mirror behind me and tried to clean my face.

“I saw Valerie running to her room like she’s being chased, she didn’t even stop when I greeted her” He paused to read my expression. I walked to my bed and sat down.

“So what exactly are you asking? ”

“I mean, what did you do to her because she was coming from your room”

“I sent her packing, are you happy?” I picked up my phone and started pressing, ignoring the confused expression on his face.

“You couldn’t have sent her packing and been blushing here in your room, will you tell me what transpired or should I go ask Valerie?” He threatened, I looked up from my phone and shot him a dead-look.

“You should know better than to threaten Carson”

“I could never threaten my boss” He quickly defended.

“Well, she came to apologize to me”

“Valerie apologized?” He had question marks all over his face.

“I was equally surprised, she decided not to leave and she wants to get to know me-have proper conversations with me…”

“She said all that?”

“I could almost call it deja vu because these were the same things you said to me”

“Wow, she made the first move now you have to do something big for her”

“Yea, I promised to fulfill her bucket list of request”

“Isn’t that dangerous, what if she asks to go back home”

“I told her she couldn’t ask that”

“okay, not bad maybe you two can get to spend some time together using the bucket list as excuse”

“Hmm” I nodded

“How about you get her a phone? Since you collected her first phone, why not give her another?”

“No, I don’t want to risk it”

“You can monitor her phone or something. I feel like she is really bored just staying in her room all day doing nothing. Janet is the only thing close to a companion she has”

“What of me? I’m her companion” I whined like a child, Benson stifled a laugh before speaking.

“You know you’re far from being a companion to her presently”

“Okay, place an order for an Iphone for my woman, my woman deserves the best”

“She does”

“By the way, stop advocating for Valerie like you love her more than I do. I’m a jealous man, I’d kill you if you steal my woman’s heart”

“I’d die before doing that boss” He crossed his heart.

“Silly man”. We both laughed hard before settling to discuss work.

“I think you might have to travel to Chicago next week”

“Why?”

“Their market rate is fluctuating”

“What about the manager? My company in Chicago is unstable and I have a manager there?” I asked angrily.

“I spoke to him just now and he is pleading for you to come over”

“Call him, let me speak to him. What do I pay him for?”

“Calm down, don’t get worked up Carson. I think your rivals left us at peace in New Jersey because they know you’re here and went to Chicago. I know we can fix it”

“That aside, our Accountant here called me to inform she has sent her report to your email”

“Oh, really? Let me check that” I dropped my phone and carried my system.

We discussed at length about work, scrutinizing reports, making adjustments, sorting my meetings and schedules until it was late. When I lifted my wristwatch, it was already 8pm. I dismissed him to go get some rest, he had been up all day. We had dinner in the room already while working.

After he left, I took my bath, switched to my pajamas and decided to go play a video game in my movie room. I walked in and saw Valerie watching a movie with her maid sitting on my couch. I almost yelled at Janet for sitting on my couch.

I coughed to indicate my presence, Janet almost jumped out of her skin when she saw me. She jumped up immediately, “I’m sorry sir, madam Valerie asked me to keep her company”

“You can leave now” I commanded.

“Please let her stay, I’m feeling lonely here” Valerie pleaded.

“I’m here now” I consoled as I walked towards the couch where she sat down. She was quiet, looking towards the door as Valerie ran out.

I sat close to her, she moved away slightly.

“Cartoon?”

“Yes”

“Is that childish? ”

“No it’s not”

“Okay, let me watch that with you. Lay on my chest”

“What?” Her pupils widened as she turned to me.
