Chapter 702
Chapter 702
As time marched on, the weekend arrived.
Tonight, the Chambers Estate was a spectacle of opulence and grandeur. The grand fountain at the
heart of the courtyard was restarted with vigor, while the mansion’s halls bloomed with floral
arrangements, resembling a lavish palace.
Guests converged in the main hall, with fine attire and perfumed hair, the clinking of glasses and lively
banter filling the air.
Ever since Bertha Chambers had faced a harsh sentence, and Byron met a grim end behind bars, a
series of business blunders had sent the Chambers Group’s stocks tumbling. The entire group was
reeling from an unprecedented blow, a shadow of gloom over it for far too long. But tonight, the
Chambers shone brightly once more.
Jeff walked among the guests with Matthew and Elva, basking in the adulation that hadn’t graced their
ears in a long time, pride swelling within him.
“Look! Mrs. Chambers‘ gown–isn’t that a Eunice original?”
“Indeed, it is! Camille’s signature style is unmistakable, it’s absolutely stunning!”
It’s amazing what the right clothes can do. She used to be just arm candy next to Matthew, but tonight? NôvelDrama.Org owns this text.
She’s stealing the show!” As compliments swirled around him, Matthew stood tall, a look of smug
satisfaction on his face. His wife is being complimented, which reflected well on him too, and he felt
greatly pleased inside.
“Elva, you’re making me proud tonight.”
He caressed his wife’s delicate hand, whispering with a chuckle, “Wait until we get home–I’ll give you a
proper reward.”
Elva suppressed her disgust, her lips curling into a charming smile.
“Where’s Avery?”
Jeff scanned the room, his brow furrowed. “At such a critical moment, how can he be missing?”
“Mr. Avery’s secretary mentioned he went to personally greet a distinguished guest,” Elva chimed in.
“Hah, his ‘distinguished guest‘ wouldn’t happen to be that Ashbourne girl, would it?” Matthew scoffed
with disdain.
Elva bowed her head, staying silent.
Jeff’s expression darkened, clearly irritated, “I heard Thaddeus has already been on Emeric’s good
side, living at the Ashbourne’s Silverlake Harbor residence. The Ashbourne family has all fully accepted
him; his remarriage to Evadne is just a matter of time!
When will Avery give up on that wretched girl? How long will he remain stubbornly infatuated!”
At that moment, the secretary hurried over.
“Mr. Jeff, Ms. Ashbourne and Mr. Thaddeus have arrived.”
The Chambers men’s faces twisted in unison–equally displeased.
They had indeed sent an invitation to the Abernathy Group, but it was Frederic they expected.
They hadn’t anticipated that instead of Mr. Frederic, this notorious duo would grace their doorstep!
A top–tier luxury car pulled up in front of the main entrance.
Dressed in a sleek black tuxedo, Thaddeus stepped out first, his striking features and commanding
presence drawing admiring glances. But this the esteemed man reached back into the vehicle and
assumed the role of a servant,
A delicate, graceful hand as fair as fine porcelain reached out.
With a charming smile, Thaddeus took hold of Evadne, leading her down from the car.
Tonight, this lady wore an elegantly simple off–shoulder, figure–hugging white mermaid gown that
accentuated her mature, enchanting curves.
“Evadne, are you cold?” Thaddeus whispered close to her ear
His hand found the small of her back, squeezing the soft flesh that he found irresistible.
“I’m alright, it’s just a few steps to the door‘ Evadne replied, her eyes meeting his with a warm smile.
Together, they were a radiant pair, naturally drawing everyone’s attention.
Thad Evadne!”
Mr. and Mrs. Abernathy turned to look, their faces lighting up in joy, “Jareth, Marilla!”
Beneath the glittering lights, Mr. Fairhaven, impeccably dressed, approached with his delicate wife,
both beaming with happiness. It was clearly a sweet newlywed couple.
Marilla followed Jareth obediently. In a refined lavender gown, she had her hair elegantly styled with
the white jade hairpin Jareth had gifted her–a cherished accessory she wore almost daily.
Though still a bit shy and nervous, she had come a long way from her days of retreating into her shell
at the sight of strangers.
Most notably, she hadn’t brought her teddy bear tonight–an indication of her improving condition. It was
clear that Jareth’s love and care had given her an irreplaceable sense of security.
Jareth’s public debut with his beloved drew murmurs from the crowd.
“Who’s that girl with Mr. Jareth? She’s as pretty as a doll.”
“That’s Ms. Marilla!”
“Oh, the youngest daughter of Mr. Frederic? One of Elspeth’s girls, right?”
“Yes, she and the three misses from the Abernathy family are born to the same mother.”
“Their fates couldn’t be more different, though. Glynnis‘ reputation in the Elmsworth circle is worse than
her deceased mother’s. Despite being an Abernathy heiress, no reputable family would court her. But
look at Ms. Marilla–she’s not only a beauty but also the apple of Mr. Fairhaven’s eye. And he’s set to
inherit the Fairhaven Group. This young lady’s future is indeed promising.”
These snippets of conversations flitted into Jareth’s ears, bringing a pleased curve to his lips.
Immediately afterward, with no further ado, he hooked an arm around Marilla’s waist, pulling her tender
form into his embrace.
“Mmm.”
Her soft lips were sealed by his, eyelashes fluttering, breath mingling.
Her heart tingled, her eyes watery and misted with the reflection of his twinkling gaze, like the a stirred
pool of spring water.
Gasps of surprise sounded from around them!
So high profile! They were too high profile!
Jareth pampered Marilla! Too pampered!
The idea that, “deeply loved person keeps their heart concealed and seldom speaks; someone longed
for exists in dreams, not in reality is utter” was utterly nonsense!
True love should be boldly declared, letting the whole world know of her existence.
After all, they were in public, under the scrutiny of countless eyes, so Jareth kept the kiss modest,
mostly out of fear he might lose control – how could he endure the long hours ahead otherwise?
As their lips parted, Marilla’s cheeks were flushed from the kiss, making her look even more charmingly
adorable.
“Mr. Thaddeus, is there any excitement to watch tonight?”
Jareth asked, an arm still slung over his petite wife’s shoulder, a playful arch in his brow. “I’m here to
show my wife the world.”
Just as Thaddeus was about to reply, a beam of bright light cut across the distance.
A luxurious Bentley pulled to a stop.
A dapper young man stepped out, his every move exuding an air of elegance and nobility, hinting at his
status.
After standing firm, he adjusted his bowtie, then gracefully assisted a woman in a glittering gold
evening gown out of the car – who was shining like a disco ball.
It was none other than Edith!
