Chapter 488
His dark eyes narrowed sharply.
"
So, she was admitting to messing around with Callum for the past three years!
Everett was a cocktail of bitterness and anger, his tongue pushing against the roof of his mouth before he let out a sarcastic chuckle. "Want your phone? Come and get it yourself." As he spoke, he slipped the phone into his pants pocket.
Selena couldn't believe it. After three years, his quirks were still there, and they seemed even worse now. She glanced down at Everett's pocket, a flicker of hesitation in her gaze.
But little Mateo, with his stubborn streak, kept the phone ringing after it automatically hung up once. Reluctantly, she pursed her lips, deciding to make it quick, and reached for Everett's pocket. But Everett wouldn't play ball. She moved left; he shifted right. She went right; he leaned left.
Eventually, Selena was thoroughly frustrated. She grabbed his shirt, practically grinding her teeth, "Can you stop moving around!"
They were close, and as Everett looked down, his warm breath tickled her flushed cheeks. He curved his lips into a teasing smile. "Selena, quite lively after not seeing you for so long!"
Selena decided to act deaf, ignoring him. He was just trying to get back at her over their divorce three years ago.
Suppressing her embarrassment, she quickly snagged the phone from his pocket, hung up the call, and swiftly turned off the phone.
Finally, peace.
Selena exhaled a deep sigh of relief. Only God knows how her back was drenched in sweat from the tension.
Everett, however, felt a flicker of irritation from her touch, his breathing quickening, and his trousers visibly tightened.
Selena, noticing belatedly, saw this and her cheeks reddened, not from embarrassment but from anger!
"You..."
She shoved him away forcefully, spitting out, "Shameless!"
Selena turned back to the car door, pulling it open.
But an arm swung from behind, slamming the door shut again. No matter how hard she tried, she couldn't budge it.
She was at her limit. Without turning, she focused on the reflection in the car window, speaking slowly and deliberately, "In broad daylight, Mr Everett, tangling with your ex-wife like this if it hits the headlines, your hidden sweetheart won't be too thrilled!"
Everett had always been paparazzi bait, even more so now. Who knows if one was lurking nearby?
The man behind her raised an eyebrow, leaned in, his lips almost brushing her ear, his voice husky, "Jealous, are you?" There was a hint of delight in his tone.
But Selena thought he was
delusional. She took a deep breath,
responding calmly, "Just a friendly
ve
reminder not to repeat past mistakes. Wanting it all means ending up with nothing."
The world doesn't revolve around him, no matter how high and mighty he thinks he is.
Everett's eyes darkened, a dangerous intensity making Selena feel on edge. She knew her words had struck a nerve, and he wouldn't be happy.
But if he hadn't come to provoke her, she wouldn't be in this situation. Who wants to disrupt a peaceful life with unnecessary drama?
After a moment, Everett placed a hand on her shoulder, gently pushing her away. Then he opened the car door, bent down, and settled into the driver's seat. He started the engine with practiced ease.
Selena frowned.
With one hand on the steering
wheel, he glanced at her sideways. "Hop in 'll get you home. You're not
familiar with the car or the roads, and you're a surefire road hazard."novelbin
