Mission: From Divorcee to Millionaire

Chapter 501

They both decided to let bygones be bygones and start fresh. It turned out the financial backer behind Dr. Fernando's medical team was none other than Everett...

Selena's dark eyes narrowed sharply. She had thought Everett was just trying to ruffle her feathers by detaining someone temporarily. Clearly, she had underestimated his tactics.

From the moment she inquired about Dr. Campbell, got his approval, and was recommended to Dr. Fernando, to the point where she couldn't reach anyone and had no choice but to seek out Everett-every step was part of his plan.

Even if she managed to get in touch with Dr. Fernando, without Everett's approval, her uncle's surgery would never happen. And even if she found another top-notch doctor, it wouldn't be quick or easy, and Everett could just throw up the same roadblocks.

Selena saw through it all, but instead of anger, a cold smile crept onto her lips. Even her leaving and her grandfather's passing hadn't made him reflect one bit. Beneath his facade of gentleness, he was still as arrogant as ever, doing things on his own terms. But she was done trying to stir up any emotion in him.

"Everett, there's no going back for us," Selena said, glancing around. "I've been stuck here for four years, enduring more pain and shedding more tears than I have in my entire life. My parents always told me, never marry a man who makes you cry." And yet, he always did.

Whether it was over him or Margot, how could a few seemingly heartfelt words make everything alright? She wasn't that easy to appease!

Her words were sad, yet she spoke them lightly, without complaints or accusations, just stating a fact. Still, they made Everett's heart sink.

He knew well: Hove breeds fear, and fear breeds worry. Free from love, there's neither fear nor worry. He had blamed her, but wasn't it because he still thought of her?

Those thoughts were why henoveldrama

couldn't let go.

To him, she seemed completely detached now. No joy, no sadness, no anger, no hate-meaning no love, no liking.

How could this be right?

If his first sense of love came from the girl who once saved him, it was Selena who deepened that feeling. She had started this, and she couldn't just leave him struggling in the aftermath. Selena took a deep breath, meeting his intense gaze. "This whole setup, drawing me in, is what you wanted, isn't it?"

With a swift motion, she pulled her collar down, letting the fabric slip off her shoulders, exposing her skin. "Cut the pretense about starting over or staying by your side. If you want me to sleep with you, just say it."

"As long as you let my uncle off the hook and stop making things hard for us, I'll do it."

To drive her point home, she stood on tiptoe, looping her arms around his neck, tilting her head to kiss him.

Everett's handsome face darkened

visibly, a chill seeping from his very

presence. He grabbed her wrist tightly, veins popping as he glared at Selena's nonchalant expression and her practiced movements

His temple throbbed, and he asked, word by word, "Selena, are you really using this as a bargaining chip with men now?"
