Chapter 144
"Has Mr. Gulliford gone back?" Jessica did not interrogate directly but asked tactfully instead.
"Isn't Mr. Gulliford with you? We didn't receive any news of his return."
Martin's tone on the other end of the line sounded completely dumbfounded, which made her heart tighten in an instant.Exclusive content © by Nô(v)el/Dr/ama.Org.
Oh no, Trevor seemed to have gotten into trouble. Damn it! How could I have forgotten that he isn't an ordinary person? Tons of people are looking to cash out on the life of Herington's Trevor Gulliford, she thought. "Oh no, something bad has happened, Martin. Mr. Gulliford has disappeared," said Jessica solemnly.
Martin hurriedly answered, "I got it. I'll take action on my end. If anything happens on your side, remember to inform me immediately."
When the call was hung up, she sat on the bed with her head buried in her hands, feeling extremely remorseful.
"I shouldn't have knocked him out yesterday. Ugh.
What now? Could Trevor be in danger?" she mused.
At that thought, she immediately rose to her feet and looked for the hotel's staff in a hurry to take a look at the surveillance cameras.
As expected, two men had pried open the hotel's door at two in the morning and carried Trevor out.
Good gosh! She swore inwardly.
Seeing that, Jessica was astounded. "What do I do now? Something's really gone wrong!" she thought. She first troubled the hotel staff to call the cops, then returned to the room to look for any clues.
Sure enough, she found a phone number left behind by the abductors on Trevor's bed. Her slender fingers flew on her phone's screen as she dialed the number in a fluster.
"Hello?" An extremely ferocious male voice sounded on the other end of the line.
"Is Trevor Gulliford with you?" Jessica did not beat around the bush and went straight to the point. "Yes. You're pretty straightforward. 15 million dollars, and we'll make the exchange."
"Are you out of your mind? 15 million dollars! Do you think you'll be able to spend it? The moment I give you that money, the cops will notice it," she answered composedly without a hint of panic in her tone.
"Do it via bank transfer. Do you think we need your reminder on this?" responded the abductor fiercely.
"Do you have any idea how large of a sum 15 million dollars is? Did you not investigate Trevor's identity before you abducted him? Even if transferred to you dollar by dollar, you would still be found out once the total amount is in your bank
account."
Jessica knitted her brows, kept her cool, and tried her best to reduce the financial loss. These people only wanted money and wouldn't harm anyone. "7.5 million dollars, then."
"750 thousand dollars!"
She frowned. The money she could get hold of now was not much. If she were to wait for Martin to transfer money over, it'd be too late.
"No way," the other party rejected instantaneously. That was only ten percent of his asking price.
"You're only doing this for the
money. 750 thousand dollars is not little either. A large suitcase will be able to fit. No one would suspect me
if were a single suitcase around.
If it were 7.5 million dollars, I'd have to get several suitcases. If someone discovers that, you won't be able to get a single cent."
"Fine. I'll send the address to you in a while," the other party agreed before hanging up. He turned to the man on his side and lowered his head reverentially. "Boss, 750 thousand dollars. She'll be here right away."
"Mm."
The man nodded, brought his cigarette to his lips, and smiled.
In the hotel, Jessica withdrew all the money, packed them into the suitcase she had brought, and headed to the designated address alone.
To be safe, she deliberately asked for recommendations from the hotel staff and bought
several weapons.
After all, weapons were legal in foreign countries, so it was not a big deal.
Moreover, she had been on the battlefield for five years. It was not surprising that she could use them.
