Chapter 145
The designated address was a small two-storey building in a remote area.
"I've brought the money."
Jessica's voice was soft as she surveyed the surroundings. Seeingthe dilapidated buildings nearby, she furrowed her brows slightly.
"Are they doing such things here because there's no surveillance camera?" she mused.
"Put the money down and leave!"
Not far away, on the second floor's balcony, a plump man's figure appeared with his hands placed behind his back. He resembled a gangster with an intimidating tattoo on his body.
"Where is he? We agreed that we'd make the exchange once I brought the money. You can't go back on your words."
She lifted her gaze to peer at him. Her expression remained unchanging as her tone was low.
Compared to her five-year experience, this was

"Enough talking. I said leave, so leave! Otherwise, I guarantee you'll never see him again!" the plump man bellowed. Jessica no longer said anything else and turned to leave.
However, she did not go far and merely turned a corner to return, carefully scouting the surroundings.
Damn it. There are no passing cars here. Why exactly did they pick this place to abduct people? she cursed inwardly.
Unable to figure things out, she could only grip the weapon in her hands tighter and be prepared to pull the trigger at any moment. She searched through the dilapidated buildings floor by floor and finally heard a conversation on the third floor of the leftmost side. "Have you gotten the money?"
"Yes."
The two men's voices were thick as though they were wearing masks. They spoke extremely softly. If one didn't listen closely, one wouldn't be able to hear a thing.
"Unexpectedly, that woman is truly willing to take out all her money to save him," said one of the men coldly. He then turned to leave, adding without a backward glance, "Get rid of him. Make sure to leave no evidence behind." "Got it!" answered the plump man respectfully as he looked at the black-dressed man's back view.
Jessica hid in the corner. Otherthan the plump man's figure being a lot more recognizable, there was nothing much that could be used to identify the black-dressed man.
"Mr. Gulliford, don't blame me for
being unscrupulous. You only have
yourself to blame for offending people you shouldn't have,"
Ov
remarked the plump man.
He held a menacing half-meter-long short knife and walked straight toward Trevor, who was tied to a chair not far away, his head covered.
Jessica couldn't wait any longer. She raised her gun and aimed it at the plump man's hand, pressing the
trigger decisively.
Bang!
A loud noise resounded in the space.
The wound on the plump man's wrist instantly bled, which caused the short knife in his hand to
drop to the ground. The man himself was entirely dumbfounded.
"Dammit! Are you crazy? You actually dared to shoot at me?!"
He turned around incredulously. His brows were tightly knitted as his wrist sent intense pain throughout his body.
Had it not been because the short knife wasn't a match for her gun, he would've charged at her right away.
"If you want to live, then scram!"
Jessica's voice was vicious, her expression placid.
Right now, whoever had the most composure would win.
"Fine! You best watch out!"
That man nodded, his gaze contemptuous as he held his wrist and limped away.
Jessica watched his retreating figure, her gun aimed directly at the man.
Some distance away, on the first
floor opposite, the black-dressed et
man eyed her with a slightly
melancholic gaze before he sighed
and turned to leave.
Jessica didn't hear anything for some time. As such, she swiftly
undid the ropes on Trevor and
helped him remove the covering on
his head.
Trevor lifted his gaze to look at her, his lips quirking up slightly. He rubbed his wrists and grinned wider. "You're still laughing?"
Stricken by anxiety, she forgot to address him politely.
Noticing her anxious demeanor, he moved his lips subtly and said, "I'd be willing to die here today."
