Chapter 2149 A Murder
As expected, the news of Leah's death had been released. Cindy went through the details of the police
report. The report hadn't released too much information—it mentioned that someone had filed a report
and that the police found Leah's body in an old, abandoned house. The investigation revealed that
Leah had been dead for three days by the time her body was found. The police ran blood tests to
confirm her identity before they performed an autopsy. The results of the autopsy indicated that it
wasn't a natural or self-inflicted death—initial results suggested that it was a case of murder. The police
were still in the process of investigating the suspects.
Cindy went through the news a few more times. Ian had already told her most of what she had read in
the news, but one particular thing caught her eye. The police denied the possibility of suicide and
accidental death. They suspect that this was a murder. Cindy had thought the same, so she wasn't
surprised by the results. However, she was curious to find out whom Leah had offended this time.
Cindy held onto her phone and hesitated for a while before she sent Ian a text to tell him about the
news.
Ian seemed to be busy, for he didn't reply to her immediately. Well, I'm sure he'll see the news once
he's free to check his phone, Cindy thought. Then, she replied to Naomi's text to tell her that she had
been reading the news and that she didn't know what was going on. Naomi continued to bombard
Cindy with tons of messages after that, most of which were wild guesses that she had.
Leah's death was the main thing occupying Cindy's mind that day. I don't get it. Whom could it be? Why
would anyone try to kill Leah at this point? She might have offended some people, but the way that she
had been living was bad enough to serve as torture for the rest of her days. Leaving her to her own
suffering would have been the best punishment one could give to her. There's really no need to commit
murder, is there? Or… Did someone have a heated argument with her? Did someone kill her out of
blind rage? Cindy spent most of her day making guesses before she returned to check the latest news
updates.
The police reports didn't attract too much attention, and the public didn't seem to link the case to Ian in
any way. In fact, Ian wasn't in the news at all; most of the focus had been shifted onto Valencia and her
boyfriend. After lowering her phone, Cindy picked up her draft paper again. She was no longer in the
mood to check her draft, and she couldn't bring herself to make any edits. Her mind was all over the This belongs to NôvelDrama.Org.
place.
Cindy was on the way back when she received a call from Ian. Ian had just gotten off work at that point,
and he had just seen her message. He sounded rather dejected on the call. "I saw the news. I can't
believe it was a murder. We'll have to wait to see what the police find, I guess," he uttered.
Ian seems so calm, Cindy thought. It's almost as if he isn't worried about getting dragged into this mess
at all. Cindy, on the other hand, didn't feel as nonchalant toward the matter as he did. "Well, aren't you
worried that this news might affect you? You guys were known to be affiliated with one another back
then, after all," Cindy whispered.
Ian smiled at her words. "I don't think it'll change anything that much. I don't have to care about the
public's words since I'm completely innocent," he said. Cindy seemed to calm down a little after that.
"Did your company say anything? Did Ms. Hannah call you? The company should be the one taking
precautionary measures, right?" Cindy added.
Ian hesitated for a while. "She called me, but she only called to ask if I was related to the news." He let
out a scoff. "This is a huge incident. She sure thinks highly of me if she thinks I'm capable of something
like this," he muttered.
Cindy laughed along with him. She could guess what Hannah was thinking—after all, they had asked
for a leave a while ago and had left the city without an explanation. Perhaps Hannah was suspicious
because of that. She probably assumed that they had gone back to deal with Leah.
