” Mom? ” Shane called questioningly.

” Alright whatever ” Mrs Kent muttered. ” I should go now, I have other things to tend to ” She added and Shane’s brows creased questioningly tho he’s well aware that his mom couldn’t see him.

” Mom? It’s late at night? ” He questioned and Mrs Kent let out a scoff to his ears.

” Yeah I’m aware and with that, I meant.. attend to your dad ” She teased and ended the call immediately. Shane let out an unbelievably gasp immediately he could understand what his mom said.

” Gosh mom ” He muttered and shook his head at how naughty his mom is.

He sighed when he remembered his mom’s words. He can’t help but ponder about it. He knows too well it’s Layla now but he still can’t help but want to care about Brielle’s feelings. How would she feel or react to this?

He’s a bit worried and that alone is confusing him. Why would he still be worried about her when he’s really ready to let go of her?

He let out a sigh as he walked his way up the stairs, in thoughts. He got to his room and surprisingly, Alec wasn’t asleep as he had thought. Instead, he was wide awake and was awaiting his arrival. He had a novel, placed in front of him as he read with a bright shade of light. The lights in the room were turned off.

He heard footsteps approaching and he raised his head. Shane turn on the lights and their eyes met. Shane walked over to him on the bed and sat right next to Alec. ” So, how was it? ” Alec asked at once.

” Mom’s confusing me the more but then.. She only insisted on me divorcing Brielle and she talked about Layla too and then that’s all ” Shane explained shortly.

” So concerning Layla… What do you have in mind? ” He asked and Shane sighed began standing. He laid the bedspreads properly and laid on it. Alec cleared the books on the bed, placing them on the bedside drawer beside him. He also laid the bedspreads properly and laid on the bed.

” I don’t know ” Shane finally muttered with his eyes closed.

” Goodnight ” Was all Alec said in reply and with that, they both drifted to sleep.

** Next Morning **

* The Girl’s Apartment *

” Is everything okay? ” Layla asked when she noticed the shrug on Mirah’s face.

” Not really, but I’m sure it isn’t something you would want to worry about ” She replied still maintaining that shrug on her face. Layla let out a sigh, slowly understanding her reason for that.

” Is it ’cause of yesterday? ” Layla asked. ” If that’s what you think ” Mirah replied with a scoff.

” Mirah, try to reason this with me, Shane’s married. He has a wife, it would totally be wrong for him to have a secret affair with someone else outside his marriage. That’s wrong, I have never dreamt of being a concubine and I don’t wanna be one.. and you’re trying to talk me into this! Mirah what’s wrong with you? ” Layla asked surprisingly.

She was suprised her best friend would advise her to go into such an act.

Mirah let out a sigh, discovering it’s useless arguing with her best friend. She’s never going to listen but she’s damn sure she would figure out things on her own.

” You know what?, It’s fine. Do whatever you think is right but I’ll tell you something. Your heart can’t be denied. It beats for Shane, accept the fact now before it’s too late ” Mirah said before turning her back on Layla and continued with the dishes she was doing.

Layla stood still, pondering over what Mirah had just said to her. She let out a little sigh. She’s making a point, but her ( Layla’s ) point is also a fact.

” What is wrong is wrong. I don’t have to ignore this fact all because of what my heart wants. I will do what is right only. I have a dignity ” Layla muttered and with that, walked out of the kitchen.

Mirah sighed as she shook her head before continuing her activity.

*** Later in the day ***

* Kent’s Enterprise *

Shane was in deep thoughts when a knock came at his door. ” Come in ” He said giving out a huff. The door pushed open and Claus walked in. He let out a little bow and Shane nodded in response.

” You’re having a brief meeting with Mr Bills in less than five minutes ” He reminded and Shane nodded with a sigh. ” Yeah, I’m still aware. I’ll be at the conference room in some minutes from now and ensure to inform me when he comes around ” He said and Claus nodded.

Shane brought his gaze back to his phone, thinking Claus would be waking out by now but he wasn’t. Instead, he was still standing right in front of him.

Shane noticed he couldn’t hear any faint footsteps and he raised his head up. He was a bit suprised to see Claus standing before him. He raised his brows quizzically.

” Sir.. concerning the secretary assistant issue. I really think you should work on it soon. The enormous work is draining the hell out of Tina, she badly needs assistance ” Claus reminded Shane and he let out a heave.

” Yeah, I’m still working on that. I will get someone soon ” He replied and Claus nodded with a smile. ” Thanks so much sir ” He said with a little bow and Shane nodded with a little wave, urging him to leave and Claus did. He took few strides to the door, working out of the office leaving Shane alone in his thoughts.

He badly can’t wait to get out of the company and head over to Layla’s apartment. Another attempt to convince her.

*** Later in the evening ***

” Thanks so much sir ” Shane thanked the middle aged man, probably in his 50’s.

Mr Bills let out a smile as he got into his car. He let out a little bow and Shane chuckled inwardly before returning the bow. Mr Bills chuckled out loud instead as his car drove off.

” He’s such a funny man ” Claus said beside Shane and he nodded in support.

” You’re heading somewhere? ” Claus asked as he walked after Shane who was heading to his car. ” Yeah ” Was all he said.

He entered into his car after Claus had helped him with the door and almost immediately, his driver drove off.

*** The Girl’s Apartment ***

” Where are you headed to? ” Layla asked Mirah who was dressed for an outing. ” Well… ” Mirah started, drawing the strap of her hand bag.

” Myles, one of the guys in our department invited me to a friend’s date and I promised him I would be there ” She explained and Layla raised her brows.

” It’s not what you’re thinking. I have no interest in him at all. It’s just a friend’s date ” She muttered and Layla nodded.

” Bye then ” She waved as she walked out of the apartment and Layla returned the wave.

Almost immediately, she heard a knock at the door. ” Mirah is that you? ” Layla asked as she walked over to the door. She twisted the door knob and the door opened widely and her face met with Shane instead.

She made way for him instead without saying a thing and he let out a short smile as he entered the apartment. He was holding a banquet of flowers in his hands.

Layla closed the door behind before walking over to her guest. ” Hi ” She said standing in his front.

” Hello ” He muttered, not knowing what to say. He stretched his hands forward , handing over the banquet to her. Layla resisted for a while before finally taking them from him and Shane smiled.

” So? You’re here to convince me again? ” Layla was the first to say.

” Well maybe ” Shane replied and that earned a chuckle from Layla’s mouth.

Seeing her smile alone made his heart raced and a smile unconsciously found its way to her lips.

” Ant word from Brielle? ” Layla asked and Shane shook his head. ” None ” He muttered. Layla suddenly let out a chuckle and Shane’s brows raised quizzically.

” If I agree to… You know… ” Layla trailed off and Shane nodded abruptly, understanding what she meant without delay.

” Yeah if I accept. What would that make me? A concubine? ” She asked in a friendly tone but Shane found it meaningful.

Shane couldn’t provide an answer to her question and she chuckled. ” It’s fine, it was initially a joke ” She replied.

” You could be a concubine at first but later on you would end up as my fiancee ” Shane blurted out.
