” I’m hired? I thought you’re gon’ need like some papers or… ”

” Nah, I know you well. You’re brilliant and you have the qualities I need. You don’t have to worry, you can resume work tomorrow ” He said, cutting her off.

” Oh, okay then ” Layla muttered.

There was a brief silence before Layla broke it. ” I should end the call now. I have to prepare for tomorrow ” Layla said awkwardly and Shane nodded tho she couldn’t see him.

” Ok then, thanks. Bye ” He said and Layla muttered a * bye * before hanging up.

Layla heaved a heavy sigh knowing fully well what could be the implication of her accepting the job.

” I hope I can handle this ” She muttered to herself. ” So… ” Mirah jumped to her on the bed. ” You said yes to his offer? ” She asked tho she knew what the answer was gonna be. ” Yeah. He said I could start tomorrow ” She muttered and and Mirah raised her brows.

” Tomorrow? Really? That’s a bit quick. I thought they were gonna interview you or something? ” Mirah asked a bit confused and Layla nodded.

” Yeah, I thought so too but he said it wasn’t really needed since he knows I’m fit for the job and now… “She paused briefly and let out a sigh. ” I have to get ready as I’m starting tomorrow ” Layla said and Mirah nodded.

” Okay then, good job baby ” Mirah said and patted her back while Layla rolled her eyes dramatically.

Layla got up from the bed and walked over to their closet and began picking a dress for tomorrow. She doesn’t even know what time she is to resume tomorrow, but since it’s Saturday and she doesn’t have a class, she’s gon’ go as early as 7.

Layla fell heavily on the bed after she was done preparing for tomorrow’s new job.

It was a bit hectic as she found it difficult to get the right outfit for tomorrow’s work.

She saw a message notification on her phone when she took it. She clicked on it and it was her work prompt for tomorrow.

* Attend to the tons of files waiting on your desk and then report them to Tina ( your boss ) *

* Receive calls *

” What the heck is this? ” Layla groaned.

” All this tomorrow? How am I supposed to know how to do all this? ” She asked herself until her eye caught the last sentence she had left unread.

It looked like it was Claus who sent her the messages.

* Tina is going to put you through *

” Oh.. I hope she’s nice tho ” She muttered and then bit her lips.

” I should get some sleep now. I hope tomorrow won’t be as hectic as today ” She muttered those last words and after switching off her phone, she drifted to sleep.

*** Kent’s Enterprise ***

” Morning ”

” Morning ” Layla kept greeting every worker she came across as she headed to nowhere. She was oblivious of where she was to go. She had no map with her and this ( Kent’s Enterprise ) was a very big company that a newbie could easily get lost.

” Should I ask anyone where Shane’s office is? ”

” No, that would be so dumb of me, I should just go to the receptionist and ask her where Tina’s office is ” She thought.

” But how do I get to the reception? ” She thought confusedly, looking around.

She was getting fed up already. ” I’d better ask someone ” She thought as she looked around trying to see if there’s someone with a nice face she could ask where Tina’s office was.

” Hey ” She approached a pretty looking lady. The lady stopped on seeing her. ” How may I help you miss? ” She flashed her a smile and Layla let out sigh of relief silently. Seeing her smile got her at rest, at least she seems nice.

” Um,, could you please direct me to the receptionist? ” Layla asked politely and the lady smiled. ” Sure.. this way ” She offered and Layla nodded walking behind her as she led the way.

” Here ” The lady finally said as they got to the reception and she pointed at the receptionist. ” So it wasn’t that far ” Layla thought.

” Thanks ” She thanked the lady. ” It’s fine. You’re welcome ” She replied with a smile and Layla nodded. The lady walked away and Layla headed to the receptionist desk. She got there and tapped her desk lightly.

” Hi ma’am ” She greeted politely and the receptionist raised her head to her. Layla fondled with her fingers as the receptionist glanced at her, she had always had this mindset that receptionist were always rude. She hopes this one is not one of the rude ones.

” How may I help you miss? ” She asked with a light smile on her lips.

Layla was a bit suprised but she was glad anyways. ” Um, could I see Miss Tina please? Inform her that it’s Layla ” Layla said hoping Shane must have informed Tina that she would be there that morning.

” I’m sorry miss but Miss Tina isn’t around yet. You could wait for her and do you have an appointment with her? ” She asked and Layla shook her head but then nodded again.

” No.. I mean Yes ” She rushed and the receptionist eyed her suspiciously.

” Okay then, you should wait for her ” She said. ” Can I see Mr Kent instead? Is he around? ” She bit her lips.

The lady sighed. ” I’m sorry, what’s your main purpose here? Do you have an appointment with any of the two? ” The lady asked, this time a bit stern and Layla flinched lightly.

” Oh, I’ll wait for Miss Tina then ” She muttered not wanting to annoy her again.

” Great. You can sit over there ” She gestured to one of the waiting seat for visitors and Layla nodded before walking over to the seat and she say down.

The Receptionist rolled her eyes secretly before continuing with her walk.

*** 4 hours later ***

Layla sighed for the umpteenth time, she was getting tired of sitting all day and no one had showed up. Not a simple glimpse of Tina, Claus or Shane. She kept checking her phone maybe Shane could call to ask of her whereabouts but he never did.

It was bad idea agreeing to his request anyways. She stood on her feet and glanced at the receptionist who looked unbothered about her.

Was Tina in all day and she had refused to let her in? Or is Tina not really in there? But as secretary she should be around by now? What about Shane? Or Claus? Not even one of them.

She let out a sigh and drawing the strap of her bag and hanging it on her shoulder, she turned to leave. As she took two steps, she sighted them. Shane, Claus and Tina. Shane looked all tired and stressed giving him the hot vibes.

He also stopped on his tracks when he saw her and Claus did the same. Fortunately, there weren’t there workers except from the receptionist and Tina who were now staring at them now.

Claus asked the two to leave and they did as he had instructed them and the two were now left alone. Claus also excused them.

Shane glanced around and his eyes caught the various cameras planted at the hall way. They wouldn’t get to talk properly here.

He walked over to her and in a swift, grabbed her hands and pulled her to his office. She didn’t argue with him, she was tired already. All she wanted to do at that moment was to leave. She was mad at him for keeping her waiting.

” Are you okay? You look stressed out? ” Shane asked worriedly as they got to his office and he locked the door behind. That should be her asking him that but she wasn’t in the mood for that.

” Really? You called me here to delay me? You asked me to be here by 7 and here I am, only for me to be delayed for 4 fvcking hours! ” Layla said on top of her voice, angrily.

” I’m sorry ” Shane muttered and Layla scoffed.

” Oh great, that’s all you’re gon’ say? When you knew you wouldn’t be here by 7 why ask me to come here by 7!!? knowing fully well that I know no one here! You made me wait for 4 fvcking hours doing nothing! ” She shouted angrily.

” Layla I’m sorry, it wasn’t my fault. We got things mixed up and… ” Layla didn’t let Shane complete his words when she began heading to the door.

She grabbed the door knob and was almost twisting it open when she felt arms wrapped around her waist. She let out a gasp. ” Shane? ” She muttered unbelievably.

” I’m sorry ” He whispered into his ears and his breath fanned against her ears and she suddenly lost herself.
